And with the return of my internet connection, I thought I should ask this question to people of this forum. Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas? Which game, do you think, is better? Honestly, I am torn. Both games have good stuff of their own. In Fallout NV, there are so many weapons to pick through. Not all conversational options are tied down to Speech, which is obviously a good thing (for me anyway). And the I found both the Old World Blues and the Lonesome Road DLCs to be enjoyable, though Dead Money was a bit of a drag. And last but not least several NPCs are voiced by Laura Bailey, who voice-acted Serana in Skyrim: Dawnguard and can be chosen as the voice of the Boss in SRTT and SRIV. Both of which stellar in my opinion. Then there's Fallout 3, that start out as a bit of a family drama and you are fed these bits of ridiculous that piques one's interest. Leaving the Vault to find your dad, unknowingly put yourself in a mind prison, where you either crash it altogether or torment the people the people in there only rescue him, then going up against a self-righthous nationalist assholes and along the way finding a village ruled by children... Maybe it's just playing through Saints Row several times that is talking but even someone hasn't a flare for the ridiculous can deny that the last is interesting. I haven't beaten FO3, yet. But I am definitely motivated to go through it. Now if it doesn't crash as much as it does, I'll have no problem. There you have it. ChancellorKremlin Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 This is sort of an old argument here and these days it feels like flogging a dead horse. There are plenty of threads dealing with the subject already. The general consensus seems to be both games offer different things to different players and both games can be quite polarising when it comes to people's opinion. FO3 arguably offers a more interesting and explorable sandbox wasteland, with (equally arguable) fairly heavy plot holes and standard quality writing. FNV is more of a return to FO's roots, with an overhauled RPG system (which is still mediocre by real RPG standards) and while it has a wasteland that isn't perhaps as fun to explore as FO3's, it does make a lot more sense. At the end of the day, both games have their strengths and weaknesses and each player will be drawn to whichever aspect of each game they feel resonates more with them.
Kpnut Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I'm on the fence between the two as well, both have aspects I like and aspects I dislike. For Fallout New Vegas, I didn't actually like the faction system especially since so many side quests where tied in with it. The lack of side quests was another thing I didn't really like (at least there seemed to be a lack of sidequests) but I loved the new companion system as well as the companions themselves (despite the way I treat Boone in m comics) and i enjoyed the setting. I liked all the DLCs except Dead Money, Dead Money just felt like a drag and I just did not enjoy it. Lonesome Road, Old World Blues and Honest Hearts where all good imo and I enjoyed all 3. As for Fallout 3, I liked the large amount of side quests and the lack of the damage threshold (seriously Deathclaws are fucking ridiculous in FNV) as well as the storyline (I thought 3's story was better than NV) the DLCs where hit and miss imo, Point Lookout and the Pitt where good but Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta where both lacking (at least until I installed the Mothership Zeta Crew mod for MZ) and combining high stealth, the chinese stealth suit and silent running made the game too easy. Fawkes and Dogmeat where also the only two companions I really liked and I didn't like the companion system. So yeah I'm 50/50 for both games as they both have things I like and don't like.

I found it very boring and it's good for me only heavily modded. Now if it doesn't crash as much as it does, I'll have no problem. Try this if you didn't already. In the Fallout.ini, the one located in My Documents\My Games\Fallout3change bUseThreadedAI=0 to bUseThreadedAI=1below add the line: iNumHWThreads=2

I prefer Fallout 3 over Fallout NV for pure game play. Modded game play I perfer FNV over F03. No not because of the sex mods here. but becasue of NV bounties, Project Nevada, and many other mods that made the difference as well as the fully developed adult mods available. I mention Perfer. Because it really comes down to what you like. They both are really great games which have the "potential" of hundreds of hours of play. It is entirely likely that the base of why many of use perfer one over the other is which one was the first true experience of the series. For some they might even have a special place in their heart for FO1 or F02.

BoozeJunky Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Fallout 3 for atmosphere, and New Vegas for the story/characters. If I had to be stuck either one or other, and not both, then I guess I'd have to go with NV since it has all the gameplay goodness of FO3 without having to deal with dumb shit like Little Lamplight or the Republic of Dave.
