Aceyyya Posted Thursday at 08:54 PM Posted Thursday at 08:54 PM Hey so i just noticed that in my steam library skyrim got an update. I have like 300 mods installed in mo2 along with sexlab...and im kind of scared. If i update skyrim in steam will it mess up with my mods or no? if so...how do i protect myself from that?
reae Posted Thursday at 09:35 PM Posted Thursday at 09:35 PM In steam in game options set updates to update only, when launching the game, then use you script extender .exe or mo2 to run your game. I hope it still works, didn't bother for ages.
Plumppy Posted Thursday at 09:41 PM Posted Thursday at 09:41 PM AE 1.7.99 SKSE has already been updated. Added and Updated Features Game Increased mod storage to 15 GB for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Due to differences in platform storage systems, PlayStation 4 Creation storage is changed in the following ways: Creations storage expanded to approximately 16 GB, but download size may not match space used because of technical details of the PlayStation 4 console hardware; This may cause download size vs. installed size discrepancies. Storage usage may appear larger than expected when managing Creations; Due to the storage system partitions, PS4 users may experience a practical limit on the number of large Creations installed at once. Added localized strings fixes for UI and platform terminology. A Creation’s Details page now includes instructions on how to report abusive or problematic mods. Added bundling of Creations in the Skyrim Creations Menu to bring it to parity with Fallout and Starfield. Changed storefront UI to support Creations box art at 3640 x 900 and 900 x 506 to be consistent with Starfield and Fallout 4. Older image sizes will still be supported and do not require immediate resubmission. Added support to sort Creation categories by "Most Popular". Creations flagged as WIP can now be viewed when bookmarked. Creation Kit Added Localization export support. Updated "Search and Replace" to align with Starfield, adding buttons for "Select Form in Object Window" and "Open Form Editor". Creation Kit will now allow multiple master loads by default. This can be configured as normal. Skyrim Creations released through the Verified Creators program will have the option to be Achievement-Friendly (Xbox) and Trophy-Friendly (PlayStation). This means that certain Creations will no longer block achievements, but it requires starting a new game for this functionality to work on updated Creations. Bink files can now be added to Creation uploads via an Extra Files browser. Expanding beyond scripts, archives are now supported on PlayStation. New file types are available (.nif, .dds, .bink, .wav, and .fuz (with embedded .wav)) for PlayStation Creations. Crashes Game Fixed a crash when the player opens the Virtual Keyboard on a Steam Deck device. Fixed a crash when the player ‘selects’ an empty search result in the Creations menu. Fixed a crash when the player transforms into a new race. Creation Kit Fixed a crash when the player closes the dialogue for a Sound Descriptor. Fixed a crash when analyzing loot in a new encounter zone. Fixed a crash when clicking the Make Use Info button on some menus. Fixed a crash that can occur when reloading a mod without an associated Masterfile. Bug Fixes Game Free Creations from Verified Creators now correctly appear in the Verified Creators category within the store. Exiting out of Search when viewing a specific Creation now properly returns the player to the Details page of that Creation. Fixed an issue where installed Creations would sometimes display the incorrect version number while on the pause menu. Creations titles should now display with fewer misformatted characters. Resolved an issue where the Creations store would not always update visual pricing when Creations were placed on sale when a player had not changed menus. Resolved an issue where Anniversary Edition Creations failed to auto-download on PlayStation 5. Search strings will no longer clip through text when searching for Creations, The Verified Creator category should now correctly sort by latest and not alphabetical order. Enabling an item in Load Order should now more consistently stick when selected. Deleting all Creations now only clears mods downloaded from the Store and not those loaded via other means. Uploading or restoring a Load Order containing a mod or Creation no longer available on the Marketplace should no longer fail. Uploading or restoring a Load Order containing many mods should no longer fail. The Creations store should now load more efficiently. Creation Kit Creation Kit now forces consistent capitalization of platform-specific .bsa binaries to avoid runtime errors. Archiving new forms in a plugin which relies on pre-existing assets will no longer cause the pre-existing form to duplicate within the plugin. Fixed an issue where Creation submission can improperly tag a file as a Masterfile causing infinite data reload. Cell forms should now populate correctly across all tabs when accessed via the Cell View window. Altered forms will no longer count as new forms when creating a plugin. Using the Create Archives or Upload process should more consistently apply correct compression to meshes/miscellaneous archives. Browsing ids in the World Spaces window should no longer alter the forms. Resolved error message pop-up when attempting to open the Creation Kit while Bethesda.net services were offline. Miscellaneous Updated the game credits.

Aceyyya Posted Thursday at 10:48 PM Author Posted Thursday at 10:48 PM (edited) seems like just because of skyrim update you gotta reinstall and set up everything again? Edited Thursday at 10:48 PM by Aceyyya

If you ever find yourself in a position where it updates and the mods ain't up to date for it yet, you'll have to either wait for the updates or you can try reseting the game to a previous version. My install for example can't even be considered AE since it's still version 1.5.97 (And never will be anything else. FU Todd, you got no power here). There are different ways to roll back an update. mostly through some tricks in steam (Easy to google and only takes time.) But I wouldn't do that in your case. Waiting shouldn't take too long for mods to catch up and it's mostly only the ones that need SKSE that need to get an update (Not even sure if that's totally true and it might only be SKSE that needs it tbh.) I used to run the game with just SKSE64 in mo2 with tools hotbar
DonQuiWho Posted Thursday at 11:31 PM Posted Thursday at 11:31 PM Might want to do this to prevent the update, if you still can, until everything settles down again. (Finally found a good use for Google's AI) ========== To prevent Steam from automatically updating Skyrim Anniversary Edition (AE), locate the appmanifest_489830.acf file inside your Steam library's steamapps folder, right-click it, open Properties, and check the Read-only box. This stops Steam from modifying the manifest and forces the game to stay at its current version. ============= Steps to Lock the Manifest File Close Steam completely to make sure it is not actively writing to the disk. Open File Explorer and go to the drive where your Skyrim is installed. Navigate to your steamapps folder (e.g., Steam\steamapps or your custom SteamLibrary\steamapps). Find the file named appmanifest_489830.acf (489830 is Skyrim's official App ID). Right-click the file and select Properties. Check the box for Read-only at the bottom of the General tab. Click Apply and then OK. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Important Launch Rules Do not use the Steam "Play" button or the normal desktop shortcut, as Steam will throw an error or prompt you to remove the read-only restriction. [1] Launch via SKSE (skse64_loader.exe) directly from your game folder or through your mod manager (like MO2 or Vortex). [1, 2, 3] Keep Steam running in the background when you play. [1] If you ever want to update the game later, go back to the file properties, uncheck Read-only, and launch the game through Steam normally. [1, 2] If you want to prepare your setup further, let me know: Are you launching through SKSE or a specific mod manager? Do you need help backing up your current executable and data files just in case? 1

Now I understand why it was giving me corrupt saves.

Psalam Posted yesterday at 09:50 AM Posted yesterday at 09:50 AM Since I haven't had the opportunity to say "I told you so," in quite some time - those of us still using LE don't have this problem.
DonQuiWho Posted yesterday at 11:11 AM Posted yesterday at 11:11 AM (edited) Anyone else found that since the update, even if you blocked it, saves made when running the game under MO2 do not get saved? Think that might have been something else, but you might want to check and see if the update set your overarching MO2 folder and contents to 'read-only'. My saves today were all getting saved as ess.tmp files and not showing up when trying to load any of them back later. Given what I was doing, it might have just been a sticky mod script, slowing down the save, but I've left this here just in case. The fix was to go back to the last known .ess file, reload that, play a bit, save the game to check no ess.tmp reoccurence and then carry on from there SEARCH TERM : ess.tmp DQW Edited yesterday at 12:46 PM by DonQuiWho

Dorabella Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago In case anyone needs it, I've used it myself and it works. Just follow the step-by-step instructions. If CTD occurred on startup, I fixed it by manually reinstalling vcruntime 140DLL 1

Neither do those of us on GOG. It's not that it's impossible to keep the version you want with Steam, it's that Valve actively tries its damnedest to ignore your choice to do so in so many different ways, and I couldn't take it anymore.
