Oblivion freezes on level up

After I pick the attributes to increase, Oblivion freezes.   Everything else seems fine.

Clean inventory

As in empty my character's inventory?  I just tried that and it had no effect.

i am not sure at all     just the setbody    i think your are not supposed to have 3 of them on (might be a conflict) !

So I tried deactivating all 3 setbody, then just leaving autosetbody and setbodybb active and it still freezes.  I really have no clue either - think I might just have to start all over and reinstall everything.

I remember on my a clean (without mods) game was the same.

In this case it is very easy to detect because you can always reproduce the freeze at the same condition.

 

1. Disable all the mods you have and see if it still freezes.

2. Enable a half of the mods and see if it still freezes.

3. Enable a half of the rest half of the mods and see if it still freezes.

4. repeat those steps until you find the culprit

 

You should be able to locate the culprit within at most 9 trials.

Just make sure you wait at least 10 seconds before you decide if it's actually freezed or normally doing its job.

Tried disabling everything and it still froze (with the windows "oblivion has stopped working" window).  My only guesses in that I got a bad base install or Win8 has some issues with Oblivion itself.  Never the less, thanks for the help.

tried to load the game with oblivion launcher then level up and save then exit the game and load the game with obse.

Tried using Oblivion Launcher to start the game and it freezes there, too.  I figure it's time to just start over with a fresh install, load up a save and try leveling up without any mods at all.

the bad thing is went you save the game with obse. obse save all bug and problem on the savedata and other thing some idle mod or mod add animation make trouble with Lovers with PK. like freezes and game get stuck. maybe you need to start the game again i say maybe, keep trying to fix the game. use start the game all again to the last.

 

you use console for level up on the game ?

I tried both Oblivion.exe and ObivionLauncher.exe and niether worked.  I wasn't that far into the game, so I'm not too sore about starting over.  Good to know about the save file, I didn't think it saved that data.

It is also a good idea when saving to use the real save option and not the quick save option if you only use the quick save option and you hit a error/bug/glitch you will be screwed as the quick save saves over the save that you are using and you will not have a save to go back to because it doesn't make a new seperate save like the other save option does.

 

The DLC's if you haven't done so those need to be cleaned with TES4Edit as all of them except for the shivering Isles one are full of dirty edits and they need to be cleaned or you can and will run into problems/errors and so forth with your game. http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/11536/? After finding this on the web, I was curious what would happen if I edited "\\vault\TES4\LevelData\" back into the Oblivion.ini

(so the line now reads "STrackLevelUpPath=\\vault\TES4\LevelData\").  Sure enough, it works.  Does this mean I have a really old version of Oblivion, or that my version is broken in some way?

Dumb question do you have pluggy or menuque? Some of the older versions had issues with this I think.
