xenic Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I haven't seen much out there on this subject. Is it possible to add the textures if various environmental assets to a race? For example: Race X + Apocrypha slime textures or Race X + Grass textures I posted a request in the appropriate place. This thread is more about understanding / learning if it is possible. Using cloud texture: And using slime from Apocrypha: So out of this I have learned I can use really anything for a texture. Here's what I ended up with
dobmc Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Huh, what. So is it like in-game grass being stuck to your character? I think there are pubic hair mods that accomplish that. You know, bush-man and bushy-woman. If its just textures then you could just use gimp to past it in, prolly look pretty horrible however.

I am not aware of such mod. It will be interessting though : a skin texture for the altmers, one for the redguards, and so on. Am i correct in my assemption Xenic ?
Passerby Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 If you mean retexturing NPCs on the fly with in-game assets rather than creating an entirely new NPC-template texture to apply (that is, using the apocrypha slime texture in place of a race's usual texture), then...yes and maybe? The texture itself could no doubt be shoved onto there, but it wouldn't look pretty (that is, covered in seams and possibly big blotches of alpha). At least that's what I'd think from my standard understanding of how textures work. But there's also the possibility you'd have to have a copy of the texture you want resized to standard body template size just to get the game to go for it, which would probably defeat the purpose of whatever the reason you're asking about it is. As to whether it can be done in game via event or script or on the fly...may, possibly, probably. It would look horrible, as stated, but I'm almost positive there's at least a scripting method to redesignate an NPC or object's texture. Though it also might not be the best way to go about it. For instance, mods like get snowy, wet and cold, as well as (I assume) sexlab's own postcoital texture options all add various shader effects to players to simulate different textures on the fly, so there's every reason to think you could just use a shader to mask any race you wanted in something that would have that same slime/grass effect you're going for. So if you're talking about what I think you're talking about, I'm betting shaders are the way to go.

I had an idea to make a slime race. One that looked to be made of the slime like water in Apocrypha. A race with the body texture of slime. The tentacles or water in Apocrypha seemed a good choice. I ran into so many hurdles though, it had me wondering if it was even possible.

Passerby Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 If you can alpha the slime texture a bit it might make the seams less noticeable, and give a nice effect for a slime race overall. Unless you're looking for something that's more slime than gelatin. What comes to mind is the "Glass Girl" set of armors in oblivion. Combine that with a generous helping of HDT and I feel like you could make the whole race feel pretty wobbly. That might be something more than an alpha though. Still, it's a pretty neat idea, turned out better than I'd feared

If you mean by unique body by race, there are already mods that allows each race to have their own individual textures and meshes.
