[WIP] More Women LE/SE

View File

This mod greatly increases the spawn of non-unique female NPCs by removing or replacing male NPCs in the levelled lists. Wherever possible this includes enemy factions, guards and neutrals such as hunters and adventurers.

This does not touch named NPCs at all so townsfolk and quest characters will not become female.

This very early version requires Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs.

If this turns out to be something people are interested in then non-DLC versions may be on the to-do list.

Updates:

  • v0.3 - adds female guards and soldiers to the Imperial factions including Whiterun and Solitude guards. These areas related quests will still spawn male soldiers and guards that are specified by voice type. The CW storyline missions will still spawn male ally soldiers.
  • v0.2 - adds female orcs, khajiits and argonians to the bandit ranks. There might be slightly more of these races appearing than normal because of the shorter lists but I've tried to moderate somewhat.

I'll leave previous versions up in case you have problems with the latest.

Limitations:

Some spawns bypass the levelled lists in order to place specific unnamed NPCs, most likely to ensure particular voice types for scripted conversations. Other spawns may simply want very specific demographics such as all orc males or male Forsworn which you'll come across from time to time. Misc quests to eliminate bandits will likely spawn an NPC boss of either sex regardless of this mod.

At the moment all this does is change the lists. One problem with such an approach is that there are lists which only contain male NPCs with no female alternatives. In some cases it's possible to just select some other female character from the same faction (male Forsworn berserkers will become female Forsworn mages), in others, such as many mini-bosses, there simply is no alternative so those males will still spawn.

Known Issues:

Duplicates: There are far fewer female templates than male so this radically reduces the variation in NPCs. In some cases the available female templates are outnumbered 4:1. As a result you're more likely to see twins. Certain small bandit spawns such as the Whitewatch Tower attack seem to favour a single sub-list which contains only four or five units pretty much guaranteeing that there will be duplicates.

This mod may affect game balance.

Requirements:

For the current version both Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC are required

Installation:

Drop the esp and bsa files into your Data folder or use a mod manager and make sure the esp is activated in your load order. Typically you'll want this as high in the order as it will go below your DLC to let it be overridden by other mods.

Note that this only affects new spawns, so male NPCs that spawned in an existing game before installation will still be there until they are killed or despawn. If you install this to an existing game expect the bandits, guards, etc. to still be male for the next thirty days. Even after that, as discussed above, the occasional male will still show up in specific locations (i.e. quest spawned NPCs, Imperial soldiers, White River Watch bandits, etc).

Updating:

Overwrite the existing MoreWomenDGDB.esp and MoreWomenDGDB.bsa files with the new versions. It will take up to thirty days for the changes to start taking effect.

Uninstall:

Just remove the MoreWomenDGDB.esp and MoreWomenDGDB.bsa files It will take at least an in-game month for the spawns to return to normal. You can speed things up for specific areas by clearing bandit camps and interior cells (cleared areas reset after ten days). For versions using the bsa file you may find that straggling female units added by this mod may have the grey-face bug until they despawn.

Compatibility / Conflicts:

This mod replaces a lot of modified NPC levelled lists. If you have other mods that alter these lists you should probably place this one above it in the load order to allow it to be overridden. This does not alter item levelled lists so randomly spawning custom items like Deviant Devices For the Masses should still appear.

This mod has been cleaned in TES5edit. There is a conflict with Dawnguard since DG adds male units to the vampire lists which this mod then removes - this is intentional.

License:

Do as you please.

Alternatives:

Feminised Leveled Lists

Masculinized Level Lists

Skyrim Scaling Stopper with the Men Not Usually Warlike patch which requires Skyrim Monster Mod as a master.

Have you looked at All Female Guards

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/14039/?

to see how that forces female guards on Solitude and Whiterun, may not be applicable to your mod but may give you an idea for how to handle these male limited areas

Yeah, I think that's how it would have to work: create a new class of female NPC and use it to replace the vanilla males. And It will likely run into the same problems with quests that have to be picked up from the replaced NPC types (which I hadn't considered yet).

If I can locate the male types linked with quest stages then maybe those groups could just be a high ratio of women to men (~5:1) rather than a complete swap.

I'll certainly take a look at that mod to see what it does with missing dialogue and callouts.

Thanks for the pointer.

Most obvious and easiest to test is the first dragon encounter outside Whiterun, even with this mod running all the combatants are male except the housecarlso he has obviously found a workaround to some extent.

Haven't looked at your mod yet, but have you seen Feminized Level Lists -- I usually use that when I play, and it effectively does the same thing with just removing the males in multi-gendered leveled lists.

Damnit, every time!

Although, it seems to suffer the same problems this mod currently does, such as missing beast race bandits. I'll try and get mine a little further along if I can.

Any way to have a slightly more feminine leveled list option? Just a little more than vanilla :)

I was thinking about this too. It shouldn't be a problem to simply even out the male-female distribution rather than removing the males. Well, no problem other than editing levelled lists being mind-numbingly boring...

Once I figure out how to create female replacement characters that don't break the game I'll certainly take a look at it.

v0.2 puts argonians, khajiit and orcs back on the menu, at least for the bandit ranks.

Generally I've stuck to the vanilla distribution so khajiit are generally one-hand or archers, argonians are almost always mages and orcs are never archers or mages. Since the lists are shorter you may notice a slight increase the proportion of these races over the vanilla game but I've tried to moderate.

This version adds a bsa which just contains the exported facegen tintmasks for the 30+ new characters. This is included to avoid the grey-face bug and should not affect any other characters than the unnamed NPCs added by this mod.

Interestingly I've noticed that the falmer servant and vampire thrall factions are populated from the bandit lists so you'll see the changes show up there.

As with anything to do with levelled lists it will take up to thirty in-game days for the changes to take effect in existing games.

If want to just test this before running it in your own game then I recommend coc FortGreymoorExterior01 from the main menu (and tgm so they don't kill you). This gives you three spawn groups to look at (one exterior and two interior cells) with melee, missile and one mage in the prison. Just quit to main menu and repeat to see a new random selection. Don't coc to populated interior cells from the menu as this seems to suppress the spawns.

Let me know if you spot any problems.

No luck with the imperial soldiers and guards yet, their lists and character templates are much more complicated.

v0.3 adds female imperial faction guards and soldiers. So you'll see women guarding Whiterun, Solitude, etc.

If you are upgrading or adding this to an existing game the guards will be swapped out one by one over the next thirty days.

What I've done is stay away from any levelled list that specifies a male voice type. This means that soldiers spawned as part of the civil war quests will still be male. You'll also find that specific spawns like the Whiterun gate guards and Solitude training soldiers will remain male.

There are only 6 types for each of the Stormcloak and Imperial soldier lists that these spawns use as templates, so lots of twins. In fact, the more I play with this mod the more duplicates I'm seeing - of course, that may be because I'm looking for them.

This mod already defines 40 new NPCs to bulk up the lists. I estimate it would require 100 to 150 additional charecters across all the affected lists just to halve the chances of duplicates. Not sure I have that in me.

Since there is so much more facegen data in this version I've switched to 7-zip for better compression.

I second this.

At the moment, there's hardly any females running around in my huge battles and the only females really end up being named NPCs. Or the occasional bandit/Imperial/Stormcloak.

If I were to use your mod, would it override the leveled lists from OBIS+Sands of Time or would they be included in the bashed patches? So I could get females from this mod and males from that one?

Unfortunately I can't test those right now as my game is at the limit (have to start every session with coc whiterun just to pre-load assets as it is).

Just looking at these in TES5edit and CK it seems the only real conflict is with a handful of bandit sublists in OBIS. Letting OBIS override MW you would see the effect of MW on the vanilla spawns of bandits and bandit-related factions (vampire thralls, falmer slaves, etc) with the exception of bandit archers (not sure if the duplicate entries in those lists are dirty edits from OBIS). So probably most bandits would be female.

As to the huge battles, if that refers to the Civil War battles then, unfortunately, the lists for those usually specify a male voice type, at least for the ally soldiers. If I were to just edit women into those lists it could break something. For the time being those will have to remain a sausage-fest.

If we're talking about battles triggered by the OBIS modified spawns then they will most likely be weighted towards female bandit NPCs because of MW.

If you wanted to try this combination out then I'd suggest installing with MW higher up the load order than OBIS and SOT without a patch. From the main menu use coc fortgreymoorexterior01 and tgm, then run around and see what's happening. If you don't like the look of things you can revert easily without tainting any current saves.

Obviously when mixing levelled list edits like this, things can get complicated.

Alright, thanks for the quick response.  I'll try it out and let you know how it goes.

Does this mod changes ALL unnamed NPCs to female (if not restricted by the engine) or just most of them like Feminised Leveled Lists?

Like FLL, MW will give you more females - about that same for both, I think.

Unlike FLL, MW adds more varied female units to the lists to make up shortfalls created by removing the males.

For example with FLL you will get almost no beast race female enemies. With MW you get female orcs, khajiit and argonian bandits, falmer slaves, vampire thralls, etc. In all this mod currently adds 40 new female NPCs to provide some variation.

It will never be possible completely remove unnamed male NPCs since certain quests, events or locations require male voice assets delivered by generic units. That's why both mods stay way from lists that specify a voice type. For example, the Whiterun gate guards have to challenge you upon reaching the entrance for the first time, there is no female alternate for this line so those two guards will always be male. That same situation crops up throughout the game.

FLL leaves some unnamed NPCs male even though it could change them to female without "breaking" the game. Judging by your response MW seems to take it a step further, and also adds more variation.

Just wanna say thank you for your mod.

I was use FLL before, now I change to use your MW.

I feel your MW is more stable, and now I have female orcs, khajiit and argonian bandits, this is just great.

You make my skyrim more fun.

Just discovered a couple of quest related issues in version 0.3 of More Women.

The Dawnguard story mission to find the moth priest requires you to talk to a guard at Dragon Bridge. The spawns here do not specify a voice type and the quest only has a voice asset for a male NPC. This does not prevent continuation of the quest but if you do not have subtitles on you may be a bit lost without checking your journal.

There is a Dragonborn radiant quest picked up from Neloth at Tel Mithryn that requires you to examine the corpse of a Foresworn Briarheart. Currently this mod blocks spawns of Briarhearts so this mission cannot be completed normally. To get around this open the console and enter setstage DLC2TTR5 200 which will advance the quest as though you had found one. Alternatively you can enter player.placeatme 442d7 which will spawn a live, hostile Forsworn Briarheart right next to you.

I'll need to address this last one when I get around to updating. The easiest method would be to return Briarhearts to the lists. Otherwise it would involve cell or quest edits that I'd like to avoid if possible.

There are a couple of side quests (Repairing the Phial, Hunting and Gathering) that require collecting a Briar Heart alchemy ingredient that is always found in the death items of Forsworn Briarhearts. However, these can also be found at various locations and occasionally bought from apothecaries (details here).

Just discovered this thread. Using female levelling lists so far which works well, but the lack of female beastraces is noticable. Im going to try this mod instead.

I read that you have problems loading your saves, if you dont know it already, there is a mod out which lets you clean savegames from scripts. If this is the root of your problem give it a try

Thanks for developing this mod. From the looks of it, it seems like the best "more enemy females" mod out there.

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until Dawnguard goes on sale again to use it.

EDIT: Well that didn't take very long. Bought Dawnguard for half price during QuakeCon sale.

Thanks again for the mod.

This mod is a good idea, but how about an option for how much the females are put in?  Personally, I'd think for professions like guard duty & bandit, the males would outnumber the females, though I would like to see more than what vanilla puts in. An option to set the male:female ratio to something like 3:1 would be perfect for me.

This is just what I was looking for.  I will also say that it works fine with existing saves.  I have a couple different character saves right after your hands are free in Helgen and used the "coc" command to check out various places.  All the generic guards, townspeople, and enemies were female.  Now, I have a lot of women telling me that they took an arrow in the knee or that they're going to kill me.  Good times.
