Can Someone Explain Nexusmods' Issue?

To start off, I know a few things about nexusmods, they have a bunch of trigger happy moderators who love to drop the ban hammer with little to no warning or explanation; and they REALLY hate Loverslab. What I have never understood is why nexus hates LL so much, I haven't been around here too long but afaik, LL has never really done anything to warrant the kind of hate that nexus gives it. Ive been browsing nexus from time to time and alot of the regulars there will talk mad shit about this site for seemingly no reason, like take Jeir for example; "The 'lab' is blacklisted, with good reason, and I would recommend not trying to link to it. I have no interest in ever going there in any case." (said to someone who linked a mod here) If he has never been here, how the hell would he know. My time here on LL (as short as its been) has been nothing short of spectacular. I may not be able to find every mod I want here, but even in the non-adult section there are many. If I cannot find a mod here, most of the time I can ask about it, and be pointed in the right direction. I can ask any question that I want here and I have not gotten a smartass or dickish response from anyone so far. This brings me back to my main point. Why does the nexus hate this place so much? Why do they ban anyone who even mentions this place, (I have a well known modder friend who was banned from Nexuschat for typing LL). Nexus' behavior in regards to this website just seems unwarranted and very childish to me. What are your thoughts?

P.S. Sorry for lengthy post, This wasn't intended to be a rant as much as it is a question.

How dare you to question nexus logic? :P "Gore and violance on screenshots is perfectly fine, but posting an image with ANY visible pubic hair, 2 pixel size or not, is a bannable offense." Yeah i guess that makes sense :D

First reason: competition. Nexus wants a monopoly on the whole modding buisness and LL poses a threat.

Second reason: if they accepted the lab they'd have to also accept all of it's mods - which include ripped content and extreme fetishes (among other things). That's not something they want to do.

You'e right about not getting asshat or condescending responses from the people here. I'm sure a few of my questions since I joined probably deserved a smartass answer but the people who respond have been pretty respectful.

That is world logic, not exclusive to Nexus. According to gaming mass-media, people are better off killing each other than having sex.

You need to put it other way. On Nexus you are allowed to upload all kind of sexual mods, be it J-cup boobs, Russian forest pubic hair, anaconda sized schlongs or skimpy to the bone armor; but not one of that must go to the image section. Let's be real, Skyrim and Oblivion Nexus are not half porn sites by now. Definitely not.

@OP

They are close minded, simple as that - you can't expect nothing less but hate coming from this.

Ruled by a dictator, they attempt to prevent any truth said by users against their site, deleting posts and banning users which are too "truthful" or go down even to censorship (LL). I mean really, how stupid people can be not to see the real deal going around? Ok, half the Nexus is like that, that's why it still going strong.

If you are competing with someone for web traffic and more ad revenue + donation $, that really isnt the way to do it imho. I mean banning anyone who even mentions a competing site in a comment? Thats a bit ridiculous, if anything that would make me wanna check this site out even more; you know the whole "dont push the red button" kind of idea. Nexus hosts plenty of fetish clothing, they even have a Japanese tentacle rape mod on there. The way things are now Nexus is pretty much the EA or Activision of modding communities.

Don't know what crawled up the asses of the Nexus mods and died. The only things LL has that nexus doesn't is better moderators, better mods and the bestiality part of the sex mods.

I wonder how many nexus admins got accounts here and leeching all the mods yet preaching to their flock that LL is bad mkay. :P Double standards 4tw.

Not just that, I also suspect them of getting the mods they ban on nexus for ripped content or other stuff, and keep them for themselves, then act like stuck up bitches about it when they're banning the mod creator.

I read somewhere in a Nexus post that someone asked if "Nexus was still a democracy", to which a moderator I believe answered by "No, it's a private property owned by the DorkOne, and he has the right to do whatever he wants with you, he owns you" or something like that. It's pretty much it honestly, I don't even see the point of the website having any forum to it. It should just be a file share platform, where people come and go uploading and downloading mods, then get the fuck out of there with their tails between their legs. Their community is dead, their moderators are angry geeks with bloodshot eyes and the support they give there is nonexistent.

They ban mods for being "unimmersive", while some of their most downloaded files are anime armors, they delete images shared on the basis of "adult content", while the game is made for adults and AP is at 10k endorsements, they ban people for the slightest "bad word" in the forums when they have nothing to say when top modders write tons of them on their mod's download page. The amount of hypocrisy is just too damn high. Worst thing is, I wouldn't even care, I mean it's just the internet, shit is everywhere, people can act like dicks behind their computers, it's almost the norm.

But when you go there, to get technical help from someone on some thread, and a bored moderator suddenly banhammers your ass for the slightest bit of criticism or a single "fuck" said at some point, it's just ridiculous.

Meh.

Politics.

At this point though, nexus mods is a 'necessary evil' for modders who set their sights on big sweeping mods and want to set a new 'standard' for the modding community.

Take Fore (a contributor here) who's made the very popular FNIS which I'm pretty sure is installed on almost every modded skyrim installation by now. Why didn't he release the porgram/mod here? Why hasn't Caliente/Cell released the popular CBBE Body or the other 100 things they've made that have been super popular exclusively on LL?

Because LL is not the place for that. These modders wanted to try to reach Everybody in order to influence how other mods and such are made as well. They were both very successful and were adopted as the new 'modding' standards. Yet, at the same time all of those mod makers have support topics released here and still provide more information, better feedback and 'exclusive previews' to us here on the LL community. Why?

It is because LL is a close knit community where not as many people join. By it's very nature LL is 'designed' to prevent underage kids (who really shouldn't be playing these games...) from joining the forums and posting stupid and irrelevant comments and thus upsetting us more mature users and mod authors.

So yea, Nexus is a necessary evil but it's kinda like the 'Dark Knight' it's not the hero we want, but it's the hero we 'need' so that we can keep the kids away from forum sanctuaries like LL and other smaller mod forums that cater to more well experienced and adult audiences.

I mean to a point the Nexus has become what it has because it's gotten too big with it's user base, at any given time there's roughly 4 times more people on their forums than on LL. That many people posting comments and such requires the mods to be ever vigilant, also because they choose to carry non-adult ads and choosing to be safe enough for kids to browse, they have to regulate their comments more appropriately.

So the next time you look at a Nexus mod, just treat with respect because they sort of deserve it (moderating a board roughly 4 times bigger than this one) and try to thank them a little, because if they didn't exist to create a place where mods 'were for everyone' then I'm sure this board too would be littered with too many underage folks going about posting stupid things thereby forcing the awesome mods of this community to get more dictatorial.

Of course that doesn't mean that the Nexus mods and Admin don't have faults of their own (they've got plenty, and if you take a look around on many of the rant threads here you can find links in which they act like the users they themselves so desperately try to moderate)

So in essence, I like the status quo. I like the fact that I can get easy to search and popular mods from the nexus. I also like the fact that many of those mod's authors contain support topics that are much more helpful and useful here on LL. I go to nexus to 'leech' and I give back to the community here on LL. The only real losers here are respected mod authors. I feel bad that they have to listen to stupid nexus comments and that we create extra work for them by creating another support topic here on LL. But I hope that the people they meet here on LL help them to continue modding and give them a reason to continue to create support topics here :)

I agree with the rest of your point, but the "users being too numerous on Nexus" logic is irrelevant. Nexus' staff has been a fucktard parade since TESSource. Robin Scott and co are one of those rare people that are complete assholes from the moment they begin, then become successful assholes. It's not even a case of "growing too big for one's britches", they were like that the day they were born and nothing can change that. On that single point I hesitate to actually be impressed by them, those guys stayed true to their asshole natures and never changed even after getting their monstrous popularity.

ps: even though im not into the adult-mods, i love it here.

mainly because of the atmosphere and the awesome moderation. this could be a "nyan-cat-fan-site" ... if it would be run by ashal, bruce, grumpf, docta and the rest of the team, id still be here i think :) well, and also a couple of the regular folks ;) *hugs*

Not to kick folks when they are down, but we already have a plethora of threads complaining about this or that on the nexus.  Please use those existing threads.

Here is one:  http://www.loverslab.com/topic/10134-banned-from-nexus/  and here is another:  http://www.loverslab.com/topic/17623-are-the-nexus-servers-run-on-a-potatoe/

Feel free to "go wild" and blurt out "Fuck the Nexus" in either one, we don't mind a bit.   ;)

Cheers,

Greg
