[Request for tips and gotchas] installing male obody setup

Hi,

 

I've always used female body replacers only in my saves, with somewhat advanced mods such as obody, dd and outfit mods (that change many things).

 

I now want to start a new playthrough with male body variety too. 

Can someone recommend a clean easy setup that works without risks?

Is it as easy as installing himbo and thats it?

Do i need to install or reinstall anything else?

 

At the core of my questions is to which extent male body replacers work differently than female ones. Because for example tng/sos are independent from himbo which is different from female body replacers.

 

I already use tng, i use slp+ too and a lot of nsfw mods.

If you already have OBody NG set up correctly, then it should be as simple as downloading and installing HIMBO and then building all necessary files with the 'HIMBO Zero for OBody' preset. HIMBO comes with a lot of BodySlide presets already, so you don't technically need any more, but I added a bunch of HIMBO presets I found on nexusmods to my own game for more variety.

 

TNG shouldn't have an effect on anything either.

Thank you! Do you know if by any chance some mods break (gameplay wise, ctd) if you didnt install their himbo version?

Dd probably. Already planned on reinstalling the fomod just for this new save

I can't think of any mods that would break the game gameplay-wise without HIMBO versions installed.... I would make sure that when you're done installing HIMBO, you go through all of your male armor/clothing mods (if you have any) and see if they have HIMBO versions available, otherwise you'll have changing bodies when you equip/unequip outfits.

 

DD shouldn't break either, but I would recommend using 'DD For Him' in the installer to have male support if you want males to use devices too. I think they are meant for the default SOS body though, but if you know how to convert outfits in OutfitStudio then it shouldn't be a problem 🙂(I also recommend using Devious Devices NG if you aren't already. It greatly improves and enhances the DD experience!)

Yeah so thats the thing you helped me understand: if i dont install the himbo version of EVERY outfit, then every armor would look the same bc no bodyslide files right (and despite Obody distributing body presets)?

That defeats the purpose of installing himbo...wdyt?

so I installed Himbo with Obody.

Body swap works well.

 

Body for males only fit armors for the vanila ones. any modded doesn't really have a himbo version...like Vigilant for example...so that kind of sucks.

 

More importantly, when naked, my character still has underwear but with the D coming through. How can i solve this? I suppose this is due to improper BS

That' probably down to picking the 'never nude' option when installing HIMBO.

ah yes, is that a fomod option?

I do remember having many sliders in BS some were nevernude.

 

On the armor refit, do I really need to have the HIMBO version of every armor?

I would imagine so. It's been a while since I installed my HIMBO.

Yes but that is not just a HIMBO thing. Armours and clothing need to be built to the body preset if you want them to fit and work properly. Applies to male and female.

thanks, i just realized i may not have used the right filters.

I only picked the groups with HIMBO as keyword. Therefore meshes have probably been built only for a couple of mods, resulting in the weird body shape switch when swapping items i described earlier.

 

If I don't select slider groups and just build everything, ofc I will have conflicts (this part I know how to handle), but will it replace female meshes by any chance?

Or are BS files strictly gendered?

Asking because in the BS dropdown menus, male and female bodies are mixed in the list

Yes. If you are doing HIMBO then deselect any female groups.

It tells you right there to 'choose groups to filter outfit list'

 

In my case, for HIMBO I would select HIMBO, Basegame Refits, HIMBO Body for Vanilla and TNG.

If I was doing the females I would have only the relevant 3BA options selected.

I would also have any armours/clothing mods selected, e.g. the Merta Assassin and Demon Hunter for the ladies.

Because it doesn't cover all armors as I thought, I removed the mod.
The thing is, I still get the weird underwear with the D hanging out. Do you know how I can fix this?

No body mod covers all the armours. Armours are made to fit the body type not the body type to fit the armour.

What body are you using now? If you are on the vanilla body then I think it only does nevernude. If you've moved to SOS then you need to not choose the nevernude.

i use TNG not SOS, never had this with TNG before...

SOS is body type. If you are not using SOS and you are not using HIMBO then presumably you are using the vanilla body which AFAIK only does nevernude. TNG will put the schlong where the schlong is supposed to be. It doesn't care about nude/nevernude.

i understand your reasoning, but I've been playing 1 year without HIMBO and TNG, and fully naked male bodies. 

So there must be something missing in our common thinking here..do you think I need to delete BS files? i started a new game with HIMBO deactivated.

Which male body do you think you are currently using?

Which mod do you think is currently providing the schlong?

 

Not sure about Vortex but MO2 can tell you which mod is providing any given file.

Sorry you are right my sentence was unclear

i played 1 year without himbo, WITH tng

so with just tng on many playthroughs i had full nude bodies

then this week i decided to add himbo on a new playthrough to test. As explained above.

then yesterday i decided to start another new playthrough but without himbo because i wasnt convinced by it and still have the dick hanging through underwear which i thought was due to himbo.

 

I use mo2 and so my mods for men are

Tng

Bnp for male - but this is just textures

 

Im wondering if its just that some bodyslide files are left from when i (wrongly) ran bodyslides for himbo.

The proof is that my male character without himbo looks skinny (like a himbo preset) though himbo is not on.

So the question should be sth like: which bs files do i need to delete to restore vanilla logic?

Unless somebody convinces me otherwise I'm sticking with the vanilla game does not provide a nude body.

 

Easy way to check if HIMBO influencing things is to look in BS for HIMBO in the choose groups window or the Build Body and Preset dropdowns. 

 

Post a screenshot of your naked guy in game.

Thanks, yeah agree, the thing is I set up TNG so long ago and it worked straight out of the box so when I reinstalled TNG for this HIMBO setup I didn't remember what I might have done differently.

Thank you! No I hadn't checked tbh. I just searched for HIMBO, you just gave me the right keyword to search for "HIMBO refit" and I could find many good results.

At this stage I'd suggest uninstalling HIMBO, SOS and TNG. And I mean uninstall and not deselect.

Deselect OBody.

Deselect your BS Output folder.

Start a new game and see what BS has to offer in the drop downs and groups. Have Preview open so you can see the body and any underwear.

 

(A) If you see a vanilla body with underwear and no schlong then you can think about installing SOS or HIMBO body. Same for SOS or TNG schlong. I'd go for SOS and SOS or HIMBO and TNG.

I'd delete everything in the BS Output folder at this stage and reselect it.

Once you have your body of choice BSed to your satisfaction sort out your armour & clothing.

Then think about getting OBody up and running.

 

(B) If you still see the underwear/schlong combo then I would think about uninstalling and re-installing BS if you are convinced that that are no other male body replacers installed.

While you are here - did you have any problems recruiting Pandorable's Agneta follower? Saw you in the Nexus posts a few days ago. I don't get the recruit option. I use EFF and tried its repair thing. I tried changing her voice type.
