at least I post requests of how to. not for the actual models.

you dont get me. rip stuff = bad. create stuff from ingame res = awesome. create own stuff from scratch = even more awesome.

and basically ripping shit can bring you in serious trouble. anyone that makes her / his own mods wont do that. then of course we have the "fun-faction", you know, ppl that only rip stuff from other games or make conversion and call themselves modder. i dont think you will find anyone that will help you here. you could try to ask on the nexus ;)

True.

People are free to port, rip, copy whatever the hell they want, and to ask for help on how to do that; it's only the uploading that can be trouble.

I'm surprised. :D Nice.

But yeah, it's the uploading of ripped content that puts LoversLab in legal trouble.

You could try Ninjaripper, it works well for dx9 games, also some dx8 ones.  However I don't remember the site where you can download it (it's freeware), you'd have to google for that.

I hope giving this information doesn't get me into trouble now ^^

is there a tutorial

Well, I don't know of an existing tutorial, but I can give you a small one here. Well.. at least I'll try ^^

So, you need to fire up Ninjaripper and set the path to the .exe of the game you want to rip models/textures from. You can set the path by clicking on the three dots button next to the "exe:" field.

Then you need to set the directory where the exe is in the "Dir:" field.

Between those two fields there's an "Arg:" field, but I don't know what it does, I never used it.

Next to these three rows you have a large "Run" button, beneath it a dropdown list containing 4 ripping modes, three of them wrappers, one an intruder.

For most games the intruder mode works best, that's why this one is also "recommended". The wrapper modes create an own d3dX dll file for the game which enables ripping (as far as I understand it...)

Then, under "Output Directory", you have to set the path to the directory where your ripped files shall be stored. Leave "Don't change the path" unchecked.

Beneath that you can set hotkeys for ripping: "RIP" hotkey is the key you have to press ingame in order to start ripping BOTH MODELS AND TEXTURES.

If you only want to rip textures, set the hotkey for "Textures" and press only that key ingame.

So, start your game by pressing the large "Run" button and once ingame, you need to move to the cell where the object/npc/whatever you want to rip is in.

I don't know about other games, but it's like that in Dragon Age 2 - it will only rip stuff that's inside the cell where you are in.

Beware though - if the cell is very large, for example like the Gallows courtyard in DA2, it will take a while to rip. Once you press the ripping hotkey, the game will freeze for a second and then continue to run, but DON'T LEAVE THE CELL, it's still ripping and it will take at least 10 minutes. Best is you just let your character stand around, read a book or do whatever and get back to the game after said 10 minutes. You can then exit the game and go to the output directory which you set before to see the ripped files.

You might be shocked at first since Ninjaripper really rips ALL meshes and textures it can find inside a cell, so you'll have lots, LOTS of house/ground/landscape meshes which you probably don't need. Depending on the size of the cell in which you ripped, the number of files can go up to 600 meshes and even more textures (since there are several texture maps for each mesh).

The ripped meshes will be in .rip files which you can't open right away.

I don't know whether this can also be done in Blender or other programs, but in 3ds max you need the Ninjaripper .rip files import script to import them.

Since the .rip files' names don't indicate what mesh is inside of them, you might have to go through all of them to find the one you need :(

I recommend to go through the ripped textures first, since that's faster than importing stuff in 3ds max - the texture file number is equal to the ripped mesh's number, so you can see which texture belongs to which .rip file.

For example, the texture of the armour you want has the number 233 in its name - so the armour mesh is most likely in .rip file 233.

Once you got the mesh you wanted imported in 3ds max, you need to export it in the file format you need (for Skyrim this would be .nif).

Having the .nif, you can now create a new scene in max and import the Skyrim body nif plus your exported ripped mesh nif and then adjust the latter to the former. But I won't tell about that now, since this post already is far too long ^^

I hope I was able to help you with this monster post!!

EDIT:

Games of which I know that work with Ninjaripper:

- Dragon Age Origins

- Dragon Age 2

- Alice Madness Returns

Games of which I know that DON'T work with Ninjaripper (for whatever reason):

- The Assassin's Creed series (which is a shame, some really nice dress meshes in AC3) :(
