So, is there a new method to make Engine Fixes work without instantly disabling all plugins on start?  I've already done all the suggested fixes, (editing the .toml, etc), but it's still wiping and swapping plugins on me.  I'm on .1170 and have all the prerequisites for Engine Fixes loaded up.  And, I guess a related question, do we still even need Engine Fixes?  Are the issues it once handled still issues with AE and the other updates to the game?  Thanks in advance for any advice or assistance.

Why not ask on the EF support page on Nexus?

I'm going to, but frankly, I usually get better answers here than on Nexus.

In all my years of using Engine Fixes, I've never run into the problem that you're facing. That could either be a bug or some other underlying issue in your mod list that needs addressing. As @Grey Cloud suggested, you may want to ask for support directly on the Nexus mod page.

Its a weird one, and seems to be really random, pretty well documented.  Some people never experience it, others can't escape it.  I've had it happen on previous builds, and the old fixes seemed to work, but for some reason this time they're not.  Most likely something I'm doing wrong, but can't figure out what.

Yes, yes. Bethesda has had 14 years to fix this game. As far as I know they've only managed to fix a couple of the hundereds of fixes applied by the unofficial patch, and that is simple compared to what SSE Engine Fixes is doing.

There's other ways to have your load order nuked on launch. One is to launch the official launcher, another is to click on the in-game mod manager. There's others too, like certain Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini settings.

Edit: and yes I know the ini settings only make it look like mods aren't loading.

My suggestion to you right now would be to disable SSE Engine Fixes, and check what happens to your load order. Make sure you're chasing the correct ghost.

Also edit: how did you determine mods are getting disabled?

Confirm you're using the latest version for 1170. What you describe was already fixed and people who still get this issue are using older versions of the fix. If you're using Vortex there seems to be a bug and it installs the all in one or one of the parts wrong, one of the pinned comments has a workaround. Latest versions of Part 1 and 2 correctly installed do not have this bug at all.

Because the plugins are literally disabled when you launch the game. This was an incompatibility between 1130 and later updates and the achievement patch Engine Fixes uses. It was already fixed and the only way people still get this bug is by using older versions of Engine Fixes in a 1130/1170 version game.

The OP might have mistaken missing textures for mods not loading. You can get missing textures by messing with the Skyrim inis for instance.

Edit: Also if Vortex/MO2 claims no plugins are selected, but the plugins.txt and loadorder.txt files are fine, then the problem is most likely not in SSE Engine Fixes. I mean there's plenty of reasons for an apparent "plugins aren't loaded" issue.

Sorry about the late replies, real world sucks, lol.

@traison, it was definitely SSE Fixes.  Enabled, all plugins unchecked and shuffled load order.  Disabled, no issues.  Its a documented issue with SSE fixes, or at least was, and as @Just Don't said I was under the impression it was fixed.  I am using the correct version for .1170, went back to double check as I think I had that issue before.  Yay.

And, Skyrim magic strikes again.  No changes other than uninstalling and reinstalling SSEngine Fixes, and this time it decides to work.  I swear,....
