As mentioned by SilentAntagonist this is most likely caused by not having an up to date version of DDNG. If you are using version 4.0, could you send me the DeviousCurses.log so I can verify what the problem is?

I've been playing with this mod for a while and realized something.
 

I have all the possible looting events activated, however, if I loot a container again, I no longer have any risk of triggering curses. Instead, I only get the benefit of the chance to find keys or maybe a device, but I will never be equipped with marks or devious devices.
 

It's a rather "unbalanced" mechanic, as I can loot the same container countless times until I get the key I need without any risk.
 

It would be nice to be able to choose whether curses, keys, and devious devices can be reactivated in the same container.

You shouldn't be able to loot a container a second time and find more keys or restraints. After looting the container once it should be blacklisted and not be affected by the mod in any way. Are you getting keys from the same container multiple times?

I'm at my wits end, so I downloaded DDNG checked that its V4+, installed Sexlab and the V1.7 of this mod.

I downloaded all the dependencies to my knowledge and started my game. It lets me go to the Main menu but immediately turns into a black screen for a second when pressing on a new game before crashing.

I've tried deleting everything and reinstalling again, tried using an earlier version, double checked common mistakes seen here, right version of DDNG installed, checked for dependencies for the DD, Sexlab and DDNG asked Chatgpt but it still didn't do anything.

The game starts fine without this mod, so it's definitly something about it, if you could help me that would be really awesome.

Absolutely great so far, an upgrade to dcur for sure.

I do have one problem though and I can't seem to solve it myself

The nudity mark considers arrows and shields as clothing, would love a fix for this.

Also, it would be cool to be able to choose which lewdmark corresponds to which curse in the MCM, but that's pretty minor
P.S. I would also LOVE an option to limit the pool of devices from which the mod draws, the bright green catsuits are a bit much for me

P.P.S Rapetats doesn't properly identify the events under the "Sex" tab of this mod, I understand if you don't want to identify it that way, but it kinda is, would be nice to have a toggle at least.

The curse is not an active effect, it seems that the mod pulls direct from slavetats to see if there is a tat, then uses scripts to apply the curse, if you do get the tat, and remove it in slavetats page, the curse no longer applies.
That said, I once had the same issue, it was solved by simply reloading, opening the lewdmark menu of MCM, slightly adjusting any setting on that page, and continuing

This is all said under the assumption that you read the requirements for the mod

the other thing is if your not using slavetatNG it wont work NG adds some command stuff i assume to make things work if your MCM for the marks is all unable to be changed that is why

Are you able to provide the DeviousCurses.log file as well? That will help me figure out what's going on.

 

Also on further review of the log file, it seems like you might not have DeviousCurses.esp enabled, which might be the case if you're on an older version of the game (before 1.6.1130) and don't have Backported ESL Support.

I'll add this to the mod page to help reduce confusion.

Other than the reasons that others have listed, if you either don't have JContainers installed, or somehow have a version with an outdated API the mod won't function right.

I can help figure out what's going on if you can link the Documents\My Games\Skyrim.INI\SKSE\DeviousCurses.log

As far as I can tell I have the latest JContainers, but I do see a warning in the log. Thanks for helping.

Curses has a lewd mark system which is nice, it's less customizable and is a bit less polished but it's also brand-new, so that's to be expected.
In all I expect this to [hopefully] completely replace DCUR in the future if it continues to get developed

That warning means that for some reason the lewd marks aren't being found in the slavetats NG database. I'm not sure why that would happen. Are you able to manually add the lewd marks and the glow?

 

Also if you don't have the LewdMarks-glow files then it might bug out like this.

What version of skyrim are you running? I forgot to add that Backported Extended ESL Supprt is required if running any version before 1.6.1130 on the main page until recently.

 

If that's not the issue could you send me a crash log if you have one?

Cursed loot is old, really big and i found to be very laggy.

Either the actual esp isn't loaded, or if you're loading on an existing save Sky UI isn't always the best at updating MCM menus.

You can try this console command which might help:

setstage SKI_ConfigManagerInstance 1

It didn't work even I start a new game.  the esp must be loaded  by the log.

This is actually not the case before version 1.8. The dll file will load and run even if the esp is not loaded.

If you can update and see if things are still not working that would be great.

So, 1.8 throws an error at start because I don't have the esp, but I am not using that because I am on 1.6.1170 ... is the mod only compatible with the earlier version?

That's not what it actually says, it says the Devious Curses ESP is not getting loaded and just mentions you need BEES if you on a Skyrim version < .1130. The message could be phrased less confusing though.

That stated, the DLL fails to ascertain the state of the ESP correctly. Not sure what it checks, but I suspect it's checking before the esp actually gets loaded (which in larger LO's, mine is about 2.5k mods and around 2.3k plugins, can take a while). As a result it shuts down the game start for no good reason at all. Might be better to check after the game has loaded, not during game load.

Edit: I deleted the dll to load into the game, just to ascertain the esp is actually getting loaded and as expected it is. So the detection appears to be what is faulty.
