The LORB Update

I certainly did not expect to finish all of the player, professor, and rival sprites before the first update, but I certainly am not complaining.

So, already you can feel immersed in a nudist life, even if nobody besides you, your rival, his grandfather, and one other random guy are nudists.

Maybe the player's Mom and Daisy should be next so the whole Pallet Town is nudist.

 

One thing I noticed with hacking Fire Red and Leaf Green is that the fame checker is only able to be edited in fire red because the sprites are in slightly different spots in the code depending on the version. Perhaps I will work on figuring that out more later. But if not, fire red will be the explicitly better version.

 

If you notice the lapras sprites in Red and Leaf's sheet, that's because Personmcguy and I are trying out adding the unused Lapras surfing animation back in the game. I'll try playtesting that to see how it looks next weekend, I think.

Maybe we'll learn more about how the NDS games handle 3D models when we deal with Bianca's 3D model in Black 2 and White 2. That's my hope, at least.

I think I know how to deal with it now. You can't prevent it unless you know how to edit the textures.

Rather than continue my radio silence, I'd like to donate this to the community for people to work on. This is the progress sheet for Black and White. I didn't do many overworld sprites, but I think it's enough for people to understand the style and continue it. All the rest of the sprites are done. I'll still give critiques, but with so many overworld sprites it just demotivates me every time I open the canvas. I'd like @Viewier to continue this.

 

I'm willing to help make all the patches for the game (I'd probably end up writing a script or something).

So cool that you've done so many! I'm proud of you, @Mx. Downbad.

I can relate to that feeling of opening something up you have to do, looking at the size of it, and feeling demotivated.

I'm glad you opened this project up for us. I'm excited to work with you again.

I wonder if it'd be best to fully switch to black and white and leave fire red and leaf green for later.
I guess it's up to personmcguy and others on the thread.

 

Also, I'm taking this time to say that I think I'll take a bit of a break from the thread for the next two weeks. Life has gotten really busy for me and I'm feeling really drained.

I'll still be around, though. I just won't be as active and likely won't be making major patch updates unless I have the free time for it.

Fear not, I drew all the pubes on a separate layer, expecting this kind of reaction.

 

The larger sprites also have toggles, they're just on separate canvases and I didn't feel like demonstrating that

I also love Erika, little known fact about me! She's my favorite gen 1 gym leader by far. She's just too cute!

Of course she knows about the peeping tom, or at least learned about it after the player fought her. Why do you think he switched to calling them "strong trainers" in HGSS? Her polycule of gym trainers beat him up bad.

He ended up switching back to "it's full of women" in rereleased version of FRLG so I'd say he didn't stop being peeping tom. His dialogue never changed in Japanese all the way to Lets Go anyway

 

On unrelated note, there actually is a cameo of Janine in Fuchsia city after the ending. But it's hard to notice since she uses generic Lass sprite in there and apparently is mistranslated as "Charine" in English version. Can she be brought to justice this time around?

Slightly irrelevant, but if there was a Pokémon region that was nudist from the get go, I want the villain team to be a bunch of sun bathers. Only they're so determined to get "the ultimate tan", they accelerate the effects of global warming to make the Summer hotter. But they fail to realize not only the environmental destruction that would cause, but that climate change would then make the Winter colder as well. So you gotta stop them from doing whatever BS they're pulling.

I wouldn't want the villain team to try to clothe the nudist region because that'd be way too dang obvious.

So basically a team Magma kind of thing, but with a nudist twist? It is more interesting than the obvious "the villains want to make the region wear clothes for some reason", but I think its a little too ambitious, for lack of a better word, considering the current trend with villain teams just being the local hooligans, delinquents and/or troublemakers that started in Alola. The reason for the scheme is in line with said trend, but the scheme itself feels a little too big for such a group to have the resources to achieve, which is why I said it feels ambitious.

 

Then again I've been crafting an arguably more ridiculous reason to explain why the villain team would be a group of people who want to clothe the nudist region in my mind while typing this post, which goes as follows:

 

The region is, seemingly, perfectly tuned to allow people to live in the nude year-round; It's just warm enough that you dont need clothes to keep warm but not hot enough for you to be uncomfortable, the rain is nicely lukewarm, etc. While the average resident of the region might comment that its weird that this region in particular is seemingly perfect for year-round nudism, they might either not really think all that much more about it because the region is just generally pleasant as it is. The villain team are a bunch of newcomers who arent adapting well (maybe they didnt know the region was nudist until they got there and didnt take to the shock well) and they end up fixating on how weird it is for a region to be so perfect for human nudity. They're convinced (incorrectly) it's some kind of conspiracy by some perverts, so they think theyre trying to liberate the region from its perverted overlords, while the rest of the region think they're weirdos. In reality, the perfect climate of the region is either just a massive cosmic coincidence (as in, yes it really is just that luckily situated on the planet) or the work of a legendary pokemon (or a group of them) acting on some request/promise made with the first people to settle the region, who happened to be nudists.

 

This still makes the villain team fit in the "local troublemaker" category, but it also makes them like a more genuine version of Team Plasma as it was in BW1. While both preach their beliefs, withTeam Plasma preaching that people should release their pokemon because they should be friends instead of pets or slaves, and Team Textile (name pending) raving about the region being ruled by perverted secret overlords, the leader of Team Plasma, Ghetsis, doesnt ACTUALLY believe what they preach and is using these beliefs to effectively disarm Unova by having everyone except himself and the rest of Plasma leadership release their pokemon, leaving them defenseless. Meanwhile Team Textile (name still pending) in it's entirety, leaders included, genuinely believe what they are saying. Obviously I dont really intend to take this beyond the concept stage, but I still liked this writing exercise I put myself through.
