Homoerotic Faiths

Homoerotic Faiths adds a new religion, Eroticism, a sexual pagan religion which centers around the worship of male sexuality and features ten diverse variant faiths.

Engage in erotic rituals to earn powerful divine blessings and maybe even awaken and master your own inner divinity. Use the power of seduction to convert others to your new faith, or to awaken homoerotic desires in other men. Create a utopia of free love and hedonist revelry, or reign as a tyrant with an indomitable army of devoted deviants.

ritual_of_virility_success.png.63a465e837de3f889fe65f899964c51d.png

Features:

  • 10 new variant faiths: From the savage Primalists to the passionate Romanticists to the devious Perverists, there's a flavor of gay sex worship for just about every playstyle.
  • Easy custom faiths: Completing your initiation into one of the Eroticist faiths will earn you a huge discount on creating a custom faith of your own.
  • Naked men: Of the ten Eroticist faiths, six believe all adult men should be naked whenever possible. Two are alright with clothing, and the last two believe men should always wear armor instead. The nudity effect can also optionally be toggled off, if you'd prefer.
  • Erotic rituals: Prove yourself in the Ritual of Virility, gain the blessings of the gods in the Ritual of Communion, or initiate your (adult!) sons to the truth of Eroticism with the Ritual of Manhood. All Eroticist faiths have access to a collection of erotic rituals, each with their own purposes, rewards, and sexy descriptions.
  • New seduction schemes: The Awaken Desire scheme will allow you to tempt a heterosexual or asexual man to potentially become bisexual or homosexual, which is especially useful because the Convert to Eroticism scheme will allow you to attempt to seduce people into converting to your faith.
  • Divine powers: Optionally, players may awaken their inner divinity and, through a lifetime of erotic rituals, master that divine power and harness it to attain immortality. With enough divine power, the Ritual of Cleansing allows you to heal yourself and others of even the most horrific of injuries and ailments, and the Ritual of Preservation allows you to grant the gift of immortality as you see fit.
  • Game rules for customizing your experience: Want both men and women to disavow clothing? Turn on bisexual mode. Prefer not to become an immortal sex god? Turn off divine seeds.
  • Nicknames: If you're lucky, you may just find your people extolling your great virility or the firmness of your faith, but if you're unlucky and a bit of a rake, you may just find yourself earning the title of Whore-King instead.
  • Plays nice with existing characters: Adult player characters gain access to a decision ("Read Erotic Poetry") that allows them to instantly and easily convert to an Eroticist faith of their choice for free. HF does not modify any existing/historical characters.

Requirements:

  • Crusader Dongs 3: Homoerotic Faiths is dependent on the penis size traits and some of the other content from CD3
  • Version 1.4.3 of the mod requires the latest update of CK3, 1.19 "Scribe"
  • Version 1.4.2 of the mod will only work if you are still running CK3 1.18 "Crane"

Compatibility:

  • Anything that modifies the nudity trigger (should_be_naked_trigger): HF's nudity and armor tenets required me to overwrite a few vanilla triggers. It should be compatible natively with CD3 (HF includes the same edits alongside its own), but if you have any other mods that edit the nudity trigger there'll be some conflicts.
  • Anything that modifies tenets: The way tenets work has recently been overhauled, but it seems like you can still only have one mod that modifies tenets at a time. The list has been moved to the new common/religion/doctrine_group_types folder, so it is at least easier to combine tenet lists from multiple mods now, but you will still need to edit some files to make HF work with another mod that changes tenets.
  • HF also makes minor edits to two vanilla events (lover.0003 and lover.0300, found in the events/relations_events/z_hf_overridden_lover_events.txt file), and two vanilla traits (crusader_king and faith_warrior, found in the common/traits/hf_overridden_traits.txt file). Both of these are very minor edits and if they're causing issues with conflicts, you can safely delete them.

Note on future compatibility/requirements:

When the upcoming DLC By God Alone releases, it will almost certainly break this mod. I do plan on updating (or possibly completely remaking) Homoerotic Faiths to work with the new DLC, but there will be massive changes, and the mod will probably require By God Alone to work once it's released.

Faiths:

eroticism_icons.png.72d3bae5c722b97200823d35c7fd1278.png

Each Eroticist faith features three custom tenets, one each from three categories. Several faiths have one or two tenets in common, but never all three!

All Eroticist faiths are considered pagan for faith hostility, and are organized/reformed to enable holy wars. There are a total of 15 new holy sites for Eroticism scattered across the map, so no matter where you start you should always at least be within pilgrimage distance of one.

Naturalism: Naturalist Eroticism focuses on reverence for all creation and the simple pleasures of a natural, harmonious life. Naturalists know that the beauty of nature is proof of the Divine Fathers' love.

- Sacred Humanity

- Bonds of Nature

Romanticism: Romanticist Eroticism focuses on love and passion, promoting a romantic, scholarly lifestyle. Romanticists know that love, in all its many forms, is the essence of the Divine Fathers.

- Sacred Flesh

- Bonds of Lust

- Divine Destiny

- Concubines

Perverism: Perverist Eroticism focuses on the worship of desire itself, holding that all desires are sacred, no matter how dark or perverse, for lust is the language of the Divine Fathers. Perverists know that the only true sin is abstinence.

- Sacred Flesh

- Bonds of Lust

- Divine Deviancy

- Concubines

- Bonds of Nature

- Divine Dominance

- Concubines

- Sacred Steel

- Bonds of Service

- Divine Dominance

- Sacred Masculinity

- Bonds of Brotherhood

If you want to edit this mod to suit your personal tastes, or to add your own content to it, or to make it compatible with another mod, or to update it because it's been broken for months and there's been no sign that I'm going to update it myself, then please go right ahead! I encourage you to do so, and I apologize in advance for all the deranged rambling in the code comments. I am by no means an experienced coder, but I did at least try to make my code legible to others (and my future self for that matter) in the hopes of making it accessible to anyone who wants to edit it, or even just use it as a reference for making their own stuff. Hell, if you want to just take the whole thing and use it as a foundation to make your own mod, Homoerotic Faiths But Better, then by all means, go nuts.

You've provided some of the lore for your mod, but left off quite a bit of practical detail that would induce people to try it out. What do these tenets do in a practical sense?  What is their game impact? You've created many faiths, it would be nice to know beforehand their practical differences. Also suggest making clothing an in-game choice for your faiths, similar to the Adoptionism event chain around faith formation. This would increase its appeal. As is, 80% of your faiths are off-limits to me simply because I like clothes. Also, is this a custom character only thing?  Is the religion established? Are their wandering members I can marry? Can I convert through an event? These are things you should explain in your description so players can use your mod.  Looks promising tho, no hate, just trying to help.

This is excellent feedback, thank you! By the time I wrote the mod description I was so deep in things I'd forgotten the sort of details I should be explaining.

The tenets are pretty overloaded so I'm still trying to figure out the best way to present all that information without it being an illegible mess. That's one of my top priorities.

The clothing option is a good idea, super simple to implement too so it'll be in the next update.

Per your last few questions, player characters can use a decision to freely convert to any Eroticist faith of their choice. It costs nothing, and the only restrictions are that you must be a player character and an adult. I planned to put that in the description (and even remembered to take and upload a screenshot of the event) but forgot to actually write it in lmao. Also, Eroticism is not established and you won't meet any AI characters that have an Eroticist faith unless you're an Eroticist.

Also yes, the holy sites are using the Vidilist sites as a placeholder. I'd like to spread them out a bit so the player can reasonably establish themselves as their own head of faith regardless of where they start, ideally using new holy sites just for Eroticism, but I haven't even looked into how holy sites work yet so I have no clue how realistic that idea is.

So how do I combine two tenent files without bricking it?

This is a bit complicated and I'm not the best at giving instructions, but I'll try.

Essentially, every single tenet must be in the same file, inside doctrine_core_tenets. This needs to include all vanilla tenets, plus any new tenets added by mods, and there can only be one mod editing this at a time, otherwise things start breaking.

Spoiler

doctrine_core_tenets_open.png.888cc8e377a2c5e8d4354af9292806c5.pngdoctrine_core_tenets_closed.png.9a31c5f3388029083cec510debd3032f.png

I've made sure to add all my new tenets at the bottom of the file underneath the mod additions header.

Spoiler

hf_tenet_additions.png.72133ebbfcd9874498a10540c76e24b0.png

What you need to do is:

  1. Open the hf_eroticist_tenets.txt file in Homoerotic Faiths\common\religion\doctrines, then scroll down to the mod additions section (or search for #hf_tag) and copy all 14 tenets
  2. Find the tenet file in in the other mod. CK3's launcher has a helpful feature to open a mod's folder, and from there the tenet file should be in common\religion\doctrines
  3. Paste the tenets from HF into the other mod's tenet file, making sure they're inside the brackets of doctrine_core_tenets
  4. Delete the tenet file from Homoerotic Faiths to prevent conflicts

tenet_final_bracket.png.b81ef8508f0d84c6f3c2004f8dbb7812.png In the next update, HF's tenet file will have a few edits that should make it a bit easier to find where my edits start and end. (Yet another thing I forgot for 1.0 lol)

Please add soulmates as potential partners during erotic rituals.  It's weird a lover can help with the ritual, but not a soulmate.  Also, the ritual of cleansing is so good.  I like it so much, I miss it when this mod isn't enabled. Please increase its cost or provide a cool-down though. Currently way too easy to spam the event to increase opinion and nullify opposition.

Thanks for making this mod, it's been fun playing with it.  I modded Asatru to follow some of the tenets, but I think certain things like the rituals aren't available if the religion itself isn't Erotic. So I tried a game with someone in an actual Erotic faith.  Unfortunately, I keep getting stomped as no one else follows these faiths.

I'm poking around to see if there's a way to mod to change all started characters who would have been religion X into religion Y, but no luck so far.

Soulmates not counting as lovers for erotic rituals is a bug, thanks for catching that! I didn't realize that it was possible to be soulmates but not be considered lovers as well. This will be fixed in the next update, and soulmates will be prioritized as ritual partners like they're supposed to be (Instead of accidentally excluded, like they currently are).

The cost of higher tiers of Ritual of Cleansing is also being increased in the next update. I do want it to be something you can use frequently both to keep people you care about healthy and to try and fish for conversions on your neighbors, but it's definitely too spammable right now. I thought maybe the time it took to reach max rank in your divine seed would be enough of a limitation, but after some proper playtesting it's clearly not lol!

Thanks man, glad to hear you're enjoying it! The next update will finish tying erotic rituals to the Divine Duty tenets instead of having them tied to the Eroticist religion like they are currently. IIRC that'll leave only the Convert to Eroticism scheme tied specifically to the Eroticism religions, and all other content will be available to other religions with HF tenets.

The early game can be pretty rough when you first convert to Eroticism. I tried to give the player a few options to help with that (conversion schemes, conversion chance on Ritual of Cleansing, the "I must keep my new faith a secret" option to be a crypto-eroticist, and making sure the Eroticist faiths are all reformed so they get access to holy wars) just to help make up for the fact that you're always going to start out surrounded by hostile faiths. I've been specifically avoiding changing any historical characters for compatibility reasons, but it does unfortunately make things more difficult too.

I would like to thank you for adding this mod to LoversLab. The biggest thing that made me hesitate to to switch from CBO to Crusader Dongs was the lack of more lore driven gay content that was compatible with it and now I'm excited for my magical gay mercenaries to carve out their own empire out of the medieval world.

So I apparently was playing with an older version of your mod.  I followed this topic back when I first downloaded, but I don't receive notifications when you update, only when someone makes a new comment on the topic.  Honestly don't know if that's always been how this site works, can't seem to find a user setting for it.  Anyhow, I've since played around with this latest version and I don't think the ritual of cleansing is nearly as spammable as before.  You had already made adjustments when I made my comment - sorry about that!

I swear to god, i'm going crazy, like some sort of Mandela effect right now, because I just KNOW that at some point in the past, this mod had chastity content, and I'm convinced that it was silently removed. Am I crazy?? I feel like i'm losing my mind. Was there ever chastity content in this mod??? Could there be chastity content in this mod? Pretty please, for me? :bawling:

Upon further inspection of a previous edition of the mod, the chastity traits (locked-pious, locked-punished and keyholder) were definitely apart of this mod, but you've clearly since removed them and not noted as such in the changelogs. I'm HOPING you intend to re-implement them.

Made a compatibility patch to make this mod play nicer with The Fallen Eagle's religion mechanics.  The deity tab is currently a reskin of the Druidic one, but I'll probably expand it to include all the Divine Fathers.

I've made sure to add all my new tenets at the bottom of the file underneath the mod additions header.

Can you make a tutorial video explain this? I don't really understand the instructions number 2 and 3. Only HF had common/religion/doctrines and i don't know where to paste the tenets from HF, i only saw the brackets of doctrine_core_tenets in HF tenets

Check your mod folder hierarchy. When I downloaded, it created an extra folder that had to be removed before the launcher read the mod.

:bawling:

Damn, I'd hoped nobody would notice!
The locked traits were planned content really early on, but I only got as far as making the traits themselves and some icons for them before I realized they were more than I could handle. There was no way to actually get any of them, and there wasn't any interaction between them and the rest of the mod's content so they didn't really do much. I gave up on the idea after I realized that doing it justice would be an immense amount of work that would require editing several vanilla events. It would be best made as a separate mod, and I'm not sure I have what it takes to make such a mod.
I initially left them in because I forgot about them, and when I realized my mistake I deleted them silently in the hopes that nobody had noticed them. Sorry I got your hopes up man!

I beg of you good sir, now that CD3 has an AGOT patch, would you be willing to make an AGOT patch as well? Pretty please ? ;c

I can look into this, but I have no idea what AGOT changes and what I'd need to do to make a patch, so I can't make any promises. If it's as simple as just finding new spots for the holy sites, then there shouldn't be any problems hopefully.

I don't know how to make a video, sorry. If the other mod doesn't even have the common/religion/doctrines directory though, AFAIK it shouldn't be editing tenets at all, so if it somehow still is and that's breaking things then I have no clue how to help.

Will you be adding any Artifacts to these religions or make it so they can use other religion's artifaccts?

No plans for making artifacts at the moment. Allowing Eroticism to use artifacts from another religion would require giving it a syncretism doctrine. IIRC, a religion can only have one syncretism doctrine, and both religions needs to be an agreement of that syncretism for it to work properly, so in order to make Eroticism syncretic with a vanilla religion I'd need to edit that vanilla religion, which I've been trying to avoid.

Sorry, I've apparently been packaging the mod incorrectly and didn't even notice! That extra Homoerotic_Faiths_v1.2 folder isn't supposed to be there.

Looked into this, and sorry but there's no shot in hell. AGOT makes massive changes to the way religion works at a level I don't even fully understand. Adjusting HF to be compatible with those changes is just totally beyond my abilities, sorry.
If anyone else is able and willing to make such a patch, they have my full permission to do so.

Actually, no need, because I managed to bootleg my own patch by following the instructions you left in the mod description.

How were you able to make it work? I can make the mod work overall in the AGOT mod, but since there are no holy sites I have to use the console to make myself head of the faith.

New update is out. Ritual of Manhood has been expanded quite a bit, and players who have completed the Ritual of Apotheosis have some fun new options.

If you have the ageless form of Light of the Fathers, you'll need to switch to the immortal form in the new update. Turns out there was never actually any mechanical difference between the ageless and immortal versions of the trait. Not only did I forget to make the change that was supposed to make them function differently, but it turns out that making that change wouldn't have made them function differently anyway. Immortality just always makes you ageless. Fortunately, that doesn't matter because the set_immortal_age function exists, and the only reason I wanted a form of immortality that let you keep aging visually was because I didn't think it was possible to directly adjust your visual age.
