I love how piracy of mods seems to be a no no here yet we're not saying shit about the fact that they're literally selling mods for a game they don't own with characters they have no rights to...

Which they do punish for if they catch it. However, NetEase has stated they are not interested in going after mods that change hero appearance; they are only interested in going after cheaters. But making it obvious you're using these mods can still get you in trouble (i.e. live streaming using mods).

And from a legal standpoint, there's no issue - the mods created to go over the heroes alter them enough to where the property is that of the modders. And again, there is no interest to go after those types of mods from NetEase. And real talk - a lot of these skins sell because people are more interested in modding those skins, so NetEase actually gets money indirectly from these mods. So modders AND NetEase profit financially from these mods.

Also, NetEase doesn't have the rights to the heroes either. Marvel is letting them do this because I am sure there are royalties involved. But still, the fact remains, NetEase doesn't own the rights to these heroes either.

So if your moral compass is bothered by this, move on. But outside of that, NetEase has made it clear they have no interest in going after hero skin altering mods; like I mentioned before, they actually are gaining financially from it.

Modders selling mods is between them and the game studios.

People uploading pirated mods here is between them and the modder, who can rightly demand that we don't allow it. If we don't follow up, it subjects us to to DMCAs and a bad rep among all modders, paid or not. This is a modding site, not a piracy site. Stop treating it like one.

What rights do the modders have? The base models they modified are protected and owned by NetEase, not them.

Modders aren't allowed to make money out of IPs like this. Paywalling a mod using assets (in this case, the actual characters) provided by the game is actually illegal. What you're doing right now is siding with said modders. It'd be only legitimate if they accept *donations* and not outright paywall their mods.

And no, Said modders ***CANNOT*** demand you to take down their shared work nor can they subject you to any DMCA takedown. Since they themselves are committing an illegal act. Then again, This is your site so do what you wish to do with it, Just know that not much people are buying into your ideology. Bottom line is, Paywalling mods is illegal and unethical by all means.

It doesn't matter if it's NetEase or Marvel that owns the characters the fact is these people are taking character models that belong to someone else and are making edits to it and selling them for profit. Which is against the ToS of pretty much any game. So can't really pirate something that shouldn't be getting sold in the first place.

Man I would pay for the really well done mods, but I've seen so many people asking for help fixing old, paid mods that broke with season changes and the modders are no where to be found...

So true or people like MCM charging Rent for her broken half assed shit.

Welcome to the literal tens of thousands of mods on Nexus, Gamebanana, etc. for literally hundreds of games. Again, more of an ethical dilemma than a legal one. And like I mentioned earlier, there are still punishments enacted to those who are found to violate these "rules." It is at the discretion of the user on whether or not they go that route.

Most mods are free. Some aren't. Fortunately, you also have the free will on whether or not to make that purchase or refrain from doing so.

Anyways, I am not sure why I decided to participate in this debate on literally one of the largest modding communities on the internet.

At the end of the day, do you. As long as you are not violating ToS here, go nuts. Just be aware of the risks on other ToS you are violating (again, i.e. being caught using mods on Marvel Rivals and being banned for it) before proceeding.

That's really all I can say. xD

My point was I don't think it's unethical to pirate mods since they shouldn't be charged anyways.
