New stuff isn't so easy to spot. But Ashal doesn't have Nexus's money!

I'm finishing up an update, then need to give it a good look over and see if I can't get a few pesky bugs fixed that i've been unable to fix so far, the update after this one will be when an "open beta" happens. 14

Starfield has enormous modding potential, the most of any bethesda game IMO (vehicles for starters). It just doesn't have the same appeal or playerbase as the elder scrolls or fallout universes. BSG claims they are looking towards a long term support model so hopefully they continue to release DLC and new capabilities that bring back players and let this game reach its full potential. Watching this with interest! 5

Popular Post drp23 Posted January 14, 2025 Author Popular Post Posted January 14, 2025 (edited) Just giving a little update on what's being worked on (and why there isn't a public beta yet): Currently, the main goal is to get the shape blending and texture generation fully functional. I'm leaning towards a system that lets you replace each of the chargen morph phenotypes (like female_as_ol1, etc) with characters, and blend between them just as you do in chargen already. Under this system, if you had a character you wanted 1:1 ingame, you'd just set all of the morphs for jaw, cheeks, mouth, eyes, etc to 1 for whichever slot you filled. Towards this goal, huge progress has been made, it will now use a newly written blender integration of dem bones (Smooth Skinning Decomposition with Rigid Bones) (credit: deveris for blender wrapper) under the hood to correctly generate the facebones positions, then split that morph into the face regions according to the bone morph definitions found at humanracefacialboneregionsmapping.csv and write those to the new race's facial bone regions file. As far as textures go, one of the challenges was figuring out how to color match faces to bodies. This has partially been solved with another blender script, which implements the general concept of the paper "Independent-component analysis of skin color image" (pdf) directly on skin textures, to seperate the skin's hemoglobin and melanin concentrations into two single channel maps, which can then be much easier blended, and makes generating the 10 skin tones for a skin texture much easier, and somewhat more physically accurate. There are still some kinks to work out though, and a UI still has to be made so this is even remotely usable without being immensely confusing. I looked around and I can't find the link for it or I'm just that dumb 2

I would go ahead and open it up (maybe I will soon if this ends up taking too long), but want to see about some other changes that I might make soon to the skeleton, depending on how some physics experiments go 4

Im somewhat of a contrarian. Also, I think it's pretty stupid for so many people to be like "this game sucks and its boring, i'm sticking with fallout", as if they don't have 1000+ plugins in their load order, having not seen a vanilla weapon or NPC in years, none of the vanilla balance or gameplay remains, and in many cases their modded load order is barely even the same fucking genre as vanilla. Fallout isn't a tactical, milsim, hardcore survival game, nor is it a settlement management simulator... its an rpg. But with mods its all of the above, if you want. It's not so crazy to think that if fallout can do that, starfield can... idk... just be a little less boring sometimes? 🤔 15
