Sorry for your loss, @Albertwesker85

I don't think this thread is the best place for discussions about the legalities of modding, however. I also think that article seems to be written by someone who barely understands what modding is, so I wouldn't pay them much attention when they jump to a conclusion like "modders don't own what they make". That's not how we see it around here.

I probably should've stopped after saying this isn't the place for legal stuff... Well, I'll keep my opinion spoilered. If you want to discuss it further, perhaps do it in a different thread though.

Spoiler

The article is written for game devs, telling them they can take down mods if they want to, especially in the case of total remakes of entire games or hacks that affect multiplayer. I assume game devs already know this, really. Because mods depend on the actual game, the game studio can allow or disallow mods in general or one mod in particular.

That doesn't mean that any mod can be copied, re-uploaded and altered by a third party. That's usually what people are after when they say modders don't own their work: they disagree with how the modder develops or hosts the mod, so they claim they can alter or re-upload the mod without the modder's permission.

But the legal relationship between game studio and modder doesn't affect the relationship between the modder and someone who copies or alters the mod. If the game studio doesn't have a problem with the original mod, then the modder has a copyright on it, and can disallow a third party from copying or altering it. If the studio does have a problem, it must have the same problem with a third party's copy of it.

Either way, whatever people hope to read in a game studio's eula or statements about modding, it's never going to be that people can take someone else's mod and do whatever they like with it. Because that opens them up to legal problems of their own.

Yeah at my level.. im not as good as other modders! So I try to just hide the imperfections..alot of these mods weren't designed for tomb raider 4-5 but for 1-3 .. in skill I'm just a baby in the modding community! And alot more experienced modders don't like me .. because I'm using their assets they don't legally own even if they made it [they think they do,and i don't either]..unfair but its the law! But I won't do that forever once I figure out how to make my own assets and then I'll probably quit! No promises lol ... so when I do create my own assets I'll practice what I preach if someone uses my assets... do nothing and not be a hypocrite! Even if decide to sell mods..let it go and create more mods

Fun tip: if you buy tomb raider remastered 1-3 4-5  and want to save space! Go into the folder of your games and delete 6 5 or 4 1 2 or 3, and the undeleted remastered games will still run .. but if you select what you deleted ,the game will crash .. but space is saved

At the moment I am still investigating it.
Tomb Raider 6 uses a completely different engine. As far as I know, there are currently only two plugins available made for 3ds Max. Both designed for the classic version of Tomb Raider 6, and they don’t work well with the remastered version. (I've already wasted too much time on that)

So at this moment I'm trying to develop my own Blender addon. I’m still working on the importer, and once that’s finished, I’ll move on to the exporter, which will be the most challenging part.

As you can see the model is way too big and I can only import the vertices and bones at the moment. Keep in mind I'm doing this for the lols so I'm not going to make any promises that it will work.

Awesome 👌  ... I can't wait to crack open T6 and go play! If you cannot get it to work..dont stress it,its not worth it ..

I see, in the classic version, if I noticed, the modders took a 'sexy' skin and made a 'nude reskin texture', after, just renaming them to replace Lara's clothes in the campaign, it's incredible how the game still recognized and loaded without problems. The bad thing about the classic version is that it terrible to start the game and the controls were even worse. Thank goodness we have heroes like you and Toxic Elmo doing everything possible to modify the game.

I tried that one and it only works with the classic models in the remastered version. This means you can load the LARAD.CHR file, modify it, and export it back into the game. However, if you try to load LARAD_HD.CHR, it will not open in 3ds Max.

A workaround is to rename the classic model to LARAD_HD.CHR, which allows it to load in the remastered version of the game. However, this introduces another problem: the way textures are stored differs significantly between the classic and remastered versions.

In the classic version, textures are saved directly within the CHR file. In the remastered version the textures are stored separately in the TEX folder.

As far as I know there is no option to change the texture ID in the 3ds max plugin.

I managed to create custom addon for Blender in Python to load in the models. But now the hard part is to export the model back to the game. I don't know if I succeed in that.

Well, hey, your half-way there. Great job in that. Keep up the good work.
