Vampire Tips

So I decided to play a bit of Skyrim after all

Got to the Dawnguard DLC

On a personal note, vampires are not supposed to be killed by the sun, that's absolutely ridiculous. A realistic vampire is of nocturnal habits instead. However hundreds of years of mythology created that idiotic idea among many others

I had to say that cause it never ceases to bug me

Ok enough of that...

To business

In Oblivion I tend to mod the thing into taking out the sun damage... and the shitty face

However I have not the slightest idea how to mod Skyrim

And I was reading certain things that say that being a vampire is HIGHLY unproductive

Yeah you got extra special powers, vampire form etc etc...

But you're still bound to wander only in the night

And everybody hates you!!

Some say guards attack you on sight in every city

So apparently, Bethesda's vampirism SUCKS... again

I'm sorry I'm posting this without actually having had the gaming experience yet

I'ts just that I like to plan ahead. And despite me liking the idea, I don't want to make a decision I'll regret later

I'm a bit preoccupied Skyrim vampirism will suck instead of being fun

I don't wanna end up bitching at another shitty vampirism system which forces you to live like a rat, hated by everyone and without ever having the possibility of enjoying a morning landscape

I was never cut out for the criminal lifestyle... hiding is not my thing... I get rid of my enemies and I'm nice to my friends. You got a problem, you deal with it, you don't piss of good people who doesn't need to be pissed off, you mess with the bad guys, you have permission for everything, you never get into annoying situations and you don't need to slaughter entire cities... May the Lord have mercy on your soul if you decide to get in my way, but if you're foolish enough to attempt so, then you probably deserved it. That's it. Live and let live. But when everyone is your enemy... No guards, no citizens, no Jarls, no vendors, no one to sell your stuff to (and I'm really fond of blacksmiths) because everybody is dead except for essentials who still attack you all the time... Not to mention the $9896988696786786788800000000 bounty on your ass... It's kinda sad...

So what do you people do around this?

Do you actually just suck it up and endure the shitty price of being a Bethesda vampire?

Or do you have mods for it?

Perhaps there is a method I don't know of (not cheating), to successfully play only in the night? God dammit... you can't even use fast travel anymore because you might end up spawning in daylight!!! So you end up roaming Skyrim on foot... looking for caves to spent the day? good luck with that...

Wasn't the whole "dies in the sun", "everyone hates lvl 5 vampires" thing pre-Dawnguard? With Dawnguard installed I've gone for days without feeding and nobody notices. I can also walk in the sunlight without damage, just weaknesses like lowered HP and no stamina regen.

You are attacked on sight if you hit the last rank of not feeding it doesn't matter if they are friends or not you walk into vampire lords castle with it maxed they too will attack you which I think is pretty dang stupid I mean their vampires I'm a vampire I don't see the problem or reason that they should also attack you on sight. To prevent yourself from hitting the last rank go to a building outside of a town and go in and feed a few times another good way to feed is to have a follower with and use the seduction spell or whatever it is and then feed off of your follower.

There are some mods on the nexus that when you become a vampire/vampire lord you will retain your looks which is better then the ugly ass faces they give you.

There are also some vampire lord transformation mods that let you tranform but instead of using the females vampire lord body it uses your players body and head instead which looks way better then ugly vampire lord body and a few on LL as well.

Another cool option in the dawnguard DLC is if you are married before becoming a vampire later on in the vampire side quests you will get one where you will have to go a turn your lover to the dark side(meaning you have to bite them and make them a vampire)

Compared with Oblivion the vanilla vamprisim in Skyrim is more easier. You take no damage in the sun, only your natural regeneration of health, magicka and stamina is set to 0 in the sun, but that can be countered with enchanted items. As already written people will only attack you in the last stage of vampirism or when you're in vampirelord form.

But to make vampirism in skyrim intresting and vampires different to play than normal peoples I think mods are required. The Better vampires mod from Brehanin is as far as I know the best mod with the most customisations that can be done by the useres. So I would also recomend the list Pyrus recomended plus Bat travel for an appropriate way to travel through the world.

All you need is better vampires by brehannon. Lets you adjust all the stuff you want (by default the sun only stunts your regen, no damage). Oh and you can stand in the shadow of a tree or building to get some minor day regen back.

edit: oh and predator vision (works in conjunction with better vampires) is just awesome. Great looking night vision with a detect life component and preset hotkeys for night/predator sight.

Thank you all very much

Now I think we can start talking about life as a vampire instead of life like a rat...

I think I'm gonna use that mod that allows to be werewolf too... a hybrid is always cool

I have to choose the vampire conversion cause this gal seems nice... so these vampires seem to be... ya know... nice people...

In the name of immersion, which is why I play, I always like to choose the right thing to do and at this point, being a vampire seems like the right thing

I'll admit some vampires are assholes that need to be put down, but putting them all in the same sack - which is what it seems the Dawnguard does - is just discrimination

Still don't like that no regeneration thing...

Well my character is a mage and I've spent the whole game leveling destruction restoration and one-handed... I like chopping people off what can I say...

So I still have to test if healing still works... it does affect stamina at the moment...

And it's one long way from where I found Serana to where you gotta take her... I'm doing the travelling on foot... just to find caves, fortresses and stuff...

I'll add another question since my real Skyrim playthrough project has been frozen and the first thing it needs is actually being able to create my final main character... which will be the same as Oblivion but with Skyrim glitter... But i haven been able to do that for being busy and modding Oblivion

So for that I seem to recall I'm gonna need a custom race, or a shitload of different textures, I already have the hair and at least two mods allowing more options on face sliders... and those damn "lop elf ears" I don't even know where to find for Skyrim...  :s

My question is about what I'm gonna do with the vampire thingy... I've read some things saying that vampire scripts for Dawguard are a little tricky and custom races are not supported... or some things... but as most mods are tricky as hell I don't have a very clear picture of what I'm gonna need

Better vampires fixed the problem of vampirism itself

But I could still use some recommendations to fulfill my enterprise

Being the custom race the first thing

And the face morph the second

I installed Less Sunken Cheeks, but I've no idea if it fixes everything

I actually think the face textures are messed up... I'm using CBBE body with sliders, I dont know if it has anything to do with it (I can't really tell now, I'm playing on low res for now cause it's a lot faster)

Ideally I'd like NO FUCKING FACE MORPH AT ALL!... God that's annoying... But as I intend to use a custom race and do vampire play... I probably need a shitload of mods before attempting

Is there any way?

Lets say I want to use the Ningheim Race for my character (Still have no Idea how I'm supposed to use the lop ears in case I ever find some, but at least it has the "cute" look I'm looking for)

Oh and another doubt

CBBE body mod only takes care of the nude body right?

I'm still gonna need another one for the rest of the clothing and armor?

Sorry the stupid questions

I'm so tired of searching now... It's never just one mod you always need at least 15 of them to make things right and each requirement takes you to the next... I could use some expert's opinion to clear the messed up picture

You can get the ears by using ECE. It could look like following:

Or much longer, of course.

And yes, you need additional mods to change armors and clothing into cbbe.

Ok... after a lot of work and some hours spent at gathering mods, installing them and a few more hours of messing with the char gen I think I managed to resurrect my character in Skyrim

What do you think? Does she look like my original character?

I'm struggling now with a last thing about vampires

The Eye glow

It looks so damn cool... but I miss her silver blueish eyes sometimes...

Any mod to make vampires have human eyes? or one that makes a toggle so you can change color in game? A spell for that would be awesome... but "Mortal Mask" doesn't do shit

After this I'm gonna need to find a nice decent armor... being decent the key word... I'm tired of skimpy mods I want something that looks cool while being lore friendly and retaining dignity... but there's shortage of dignity everywhere...

That is a cool idea and the most logical too considering vamps living among the herd as it were, but this is Bethesda vamps and they seem to prefer the Nosferatu feral thing. I've never found a mod that toggles the eyes between vamp and normal, more's the pity. But there is one that changes the eyes when you're using vamp vision, so from an rp perspective that might work for you since you could go with normal eyes and have the mod alter them only when you go into predator mode:

DVA

I ran with this mod for a while on my last vamp playthru and really liked what it attempts to do, best of which was making vamps messy feeders . Unfortunately I couldn't tolerate the hitch in framerate while it dynamically changed appearance, especially not from a mod that's aimed primarily at immersion. Might want to try it of you haven't already since that may be resolved. Let us know how you get on if you do.

Oh hell... I'm so tired of searching

There are literally hundreds of mods that make vampires not have sunken cheeks, almost every vampire mod does that

But none of them takes care of the eyes

I found one that says "vampire maintain previous form after feeding"

Which would be exactly the thing I would be needing. Except it doesn't work for me

When using it, the eyes change to all-white texture, even the eyelashes, which I'm guessing means the total lack of a texture... perhaps it has something to do with the fact I'm using "The Eyes of Beauty" mod..

With no mod at all, vampire eyes are no vampire eyes at all, instead they are boring regular brown eyes!!!  :@ (And there's not a mod in the world capable of adding any color to them except the Glowing Vampire Eye Fix mod)

When using a glowing eye mod, the eyes glow, like the picture... it looks cool but I don't want it all the time. I prefer the human version

Is there an end to this quest?

How to have the human eyes of my choosing without glowing when being a vampire?

Posted

It half-works

It gives the glowing look when using night vision but when eyes are supposed to be normal and human...

I still got those ugly fucking brown eyes!!  :@  :@

Perhaps there's a patch I need?

Or I installed something wrong?

I'm starting to think that since every mod that's supposed to change eyes leaves nothing but boring brown eyes...  :-/

Posted

That actually is very strange; I know the "original" eyes don't work that properly, for me they also show only a certain kind of eyes, but they aren't the default brown eyes.

Have you installed DVA after becoming a vampire? Maybe that could be related.

Posted

Yeah I did...

But I've never been able to get rid of the pesky brown eyes...

This is how it looks

This is with DVA and vampire vision

This is how it should look... kinda... still editing the textures a bit

Yes they are on I'll try with off...

I'm also trying to find a fix...

Seems the hazel eyes are a female vampire bug that something should be fixing... something I don't yet have

Posted

No, it isn't a bug, it just seems you have the special eyes for each state of starvation activated. You can keep the combat- and nightvision-feature on, by the way, they will work with the blue eyes aswell.

Posted

Nope... nothing

By the way the state of the savegame is "fully fed"

And the brown eyes have always been brown ever since I installed the game with no mods

As human they can be silver and blue

As vampire, always brown unless a glowing eye fix is installed in which case it goes all glow

It seems to recognize "vanilla human" eye color as brown instead of the silver or blue... it's meant to be turquoise in the future...

I'm proceeding to download and install all them unofficial patches now...

Posted

You definitely should try a new game with DVA activated before you turn into a vampire; I am pretty sure it simply doesn't find the original eyes and so just gives you the default ones.

Posted

I was afraid I was gonna have to do that

Now I'm clueless to how the hell am I gonna recreate my character again without going through the painful process of changing every feature slider by slider all over again and manually adjusting the vertices in ECE... that took quite a while last time

I think messing with the vertices did something and the "slot save" for the preset is not entirely reliable

That assuming the vampire thing is finally solved

Not even mentioning the even more painful process of doing all the quests and leveling again
