Hi, first of all, sorry for any bad English.

i been working in a skin tight mesh that anyone without any modeling skills can customize by modifying only the texture adding transparency etc.

the mesh has a modified UNP mesh slightly bigger with the shell modifier of 3ds max, and another UNP mesh so that when you use transparency on the bigger one and you can see your character skin below.

Here you can see on the neck the texture actually has thickness

this is the exact same mesh but a different texture, my character skin texture has a lot of tattoos so don't get confused.

the problem i have is that the borders where there is transparency are a little jumpy and white as you can see in the image below.

another thing i need is to ask if someone can make an actual mod special for this meshes because right know i'm using the Neo mandu armor .esp, because i have 0 knowledge on that area.

i need help improving this idea i'm not sure the shell modifier is the best option for this

i think this mod has a lot of potential, it obviously has some limitations but for people without modeling skills its perfect.

also i recently upgraded my 3ds max to 2014 and i cant find any nif plug in for 2014.

i attached the meshes, textures and the psd file so you can see better how it work

You can also add transparency to a outfit by throwing the texture file into gimp paint-net or photo shop they would need the .dds plugin to be able to read .dds files. First load the nif into nifskope then hit render and go down to settings select it and follow the path you have the files set up at so that it renders the outfit in nifskope. Next throw the texture file into one of the things I listed above.

I use gimp a lot if you want to only add transparency to a specific area lasso it so that it only the area inside the lassoed area is affected. Now go to eraser and double click it and set Opacity to anything other then 100% try like 50% change the eraser size if needed and hold down the button and go over the whole area you need to add transparency to then go to file and overwrite .dds file check nifskope if it's not what you wanted go back to gimp and select undo and then try a different % and repeat till you got it where you want it at once you have it where you want it at you can close gimp just remember once gimp is closed or which ever program you are using it's there for good until you overwrite the file with a unchanged one.

If the outfit doesn't become transparent you may have to right click the outfit in nifskope go down to node select add property then go through the list till you find NiAlphaProperty and the transparency should now show up. Make sure that if you add a alphaproperty to the outfit to make sure to hit save as to overwrite the nif and since this is skyrim it show have 1 more that is the same as it and what you do to one nif you have to do to both nifs otherwise what you did will not show up in game.

that is what i did on on photoshop my problems is not the textures or nifskope

i just need someone to help me improve the mesh so the borders don't get weird

and if anyone could tell me where can i find a nif plug in for 3ds max 2014 to keep testing things, or if blender has something like the shell modifier from 3ds max, i triyed to use blender one time and i didn't like it but if i can do the skin extrusion easier i might give it a try.

thanks

Have you tried different flags and thresholds in the NiAlphaProperty?

I just followed this instructions and didn't help

Right click on NiAlphaProperty -> Flags ...

If you want completely transparent un-tick Blending ... If you want it translucent/partially see through make sure Blending is ticked

Tick "Enable Testing" ...Leave both "SRC" options alone and select either "Greater" or "Greater than or Equal to" -> Set threshold # at 127 or 128 -> accept

That's not what i meant by "different flags and thresholds"

There the ones you should play around with.

A lot quicker then the long way round.

You will also notice in the pic no white edges, that's because i edited your texture to have some extra padding.

this stops the edge bleeding from happening.

Also you should remove the back/inside mesh that was created when you used the shell modifier as its not needed.

^ This.

When you create the shell you should see an option to assign different material ID's to edge, outer and inner - a nice quick way of separating it for easier selection and removal.

Also, in my experiences the skin modifier seems to play a little nicer with shell than with push in regards to clipping.
