Newbies biting off more than we can chew! Cart has no players, and the camera possesses it.

Hello! Lately me and my lovely wife have been combing through Skyrim mods to try and get something going. Unfortunately, a few poorly understood downloads here and there left me restarting the entire process (we're using Vortex, and I basically had to wipe my mods folder to try again,) and after 4 whole days of reading and rereading dependencies and troubleshooting conflicts, the game is finally running. Unfortunately, the camera is inside the cart, which has nobody except a lone driver, and a horse. Some of the metal textures are an odd blue, and the carts go until they hit a wall, as the gates do not open, and then they simply sit there. We have attached an image below for reference, and hilarity. I actually have no idea what's causing this, and found another thread with a similar issue to no avail. We are now hoping for a Skyim Modding maverick to save me the headache of taking another 4 weeks to figure this out. Thank you very much in advance!

Side note: I feel like FNIS may be the issue? I've tried updating behavior with Skeleton Arm Fix/Gender Specific Anims/HKX/File Redirection as its main go. If this is wrong, please let me know.

The purple colored stuff is missing textures, but the real issue here would be loading this many mods at once. If that's what you've done, you should start with just a basic Sexlab setup, leave out the creatures, leave out the DD/ZaZ/POP stuff, leave out all the heavy script mods, check versions carefully, and just get the basic Sexlab set up solid, with just the basics like SLAL, animation packs, SL Aroused, SkyUI, SOS, etc. and a basic mod like SLEN to initiate sex and check things out. Then add other mods either one at a time, or in logical groups (creature stuff, DD stuff) and check each out one by one. This way, you can identify troublesome mods. Maybe others can report success, but there's no way I would try to run all of those mods you are running.

@Gristle's advice is good.. scale back mods to start, test that they work, install a few more, test, repeat. Personally I don't have trouble running that many at once, but it will be a nightmare trying to figure out what's wrong if they're all brand new to you.

Do you have skse and papyrusutils and such installed?

It might be easier to test things if you open the console ("~" by default) and type "coc qasmoke" from the main menu, rather than selecting "new game." The opening scene can take a while. Using "coc qasmoke" will move you to a dev testing cell, with a default male nord character. Testing mods in there might be easier. Good luck!

I would really suggest to use Mod Organizer 2 instead of vortex. Mod organizer works by creating virtual "directories" instead of actually moving files. Making it less frustrating to fix/delete stuff when your collection of mods goes wrong.

Vortex uses file links, it doesn't move or copy files. Also, the creator of MO is the project leader for Vortex. It's also not really important which mod manager you use.

Apart from the MO evangelist you have good advice. You should really follow a guide such as the one here on LL or the STEP guide.

BTW this is the LE section. SE has its own.

I'm not really a MO evangelist but Vortex does directly alter files by replacing them in the game's directory. Maybe you never had issues with this but I have, just wanted to share with a newbie as this could alleviate a lot of headaches for them.

Vortex doesn't 'alter files by replacing them in the game's directory'.

1. Alter and replace mean two different things and Vortex does neither.

2. Vortex does not put files in the game's directory - that would be the directory where the Skyrim exe is located. Vortex puts files in the Data directory. After nearly seven years of asking I'm still awaiting an answer as to why putting files in the Data folder is a bad thing.

I think a lot of the confusion comes from people not understanding what vfs and linked files are, or how they work. That's completely understandable since neither come up in everyday use, unless you work with linux or another *nix. MO's vfs is a great solution, and when NMM did physically copy files, it was much faster and easier. Vortex's file link system is the same speed though, and doesn't require you to run the game through their app. But because some people don't know what a file link is, they can get frustrated.

I think we successfully derailed this thread, talking about something that's completely irrelevant to the topic.

Haha, it's okay. I was going to abandon this one anyway once I get a ball rolling, and open one in the /correct/ section if I see any more issues.

the problems you here have come from some different aspects and all together its not solveable as long you are not reducing the differnt issures. If you really want to learn skyrim to be useable and a working game, you will need a while by getting in touch with different aspects. The most bad part of this all is the way how you add modds and then want them all to become working with each other. There´s no mod organizer doing that for you as you need to use knowledge and experience, how to configure a working skyrim-game. From star you should only use skyrim without any mod and parallel install a mod organizer or add mods by manually dropping them into their suiting folders. Mods do add new content into the game and the game is picking their content and loading this content in a modular and additional way. Some mods only add new content and other are also changing files of existing parts of the game-or theiy do replace the game´s content by the quite clever way that bethesda uses this sort of reading at first those data files, which are under "data" spend in the same directory as the game´s compressed files are standing. A working mod organizer should be able to put new mods exactly onto the place, where it belongs and!! it should be able to delete their content as well and both actions in a quite short time if possible. In any case are some mods so much basic stuff that thos should be installed simply by doing that manually and by that way you get your knowledge about what is happening while using mods. As you got two mod organizer´s as a suggestion, I find you need to know also a third one, which is endlessly "underrated" but which is working in a perfect way: It´s called Wyre Bash and used by lot of creators for skyrim´s content as it offers fast action and doesn´t come with foolish graphical makeup-, which seems to be it´s downside.

So no.1: role back to only the standard game without mods-then use guides for adding the most important mods and read about what those are doing

No. 2: Use a "better"-lol, mod manager or install some basic mods manually-that´s mostly the body´s mods, bodyslide, FNIS, the modern skeleton mod, and some other stuff all around SKSE.

No. 3 Install a mod-organizer for SKYRIM and make sure you can handle that thing and know about it´s functions and what it is doing.

No. 4 Learn about the order, the engine is loading mods, the last loaded mod is maybe changing stuff from a before loading mod. Loadorder has effects on the game-functionallity. Also the INSTALLATION-ORDER has an effect on the shown- up- content of the game.

No.5 And what I see there on your pictures is simply a mod, which is not conpatible with SKYRIM so far: it has wanted to replace textures of the game, which now from the data-folder->textures can not be read anymore-I´t only possible, that you are using a SKYRIM-SE mod, or it is possible that your game did not load an esm/esp-file as well. Esl files (I guess) SKYRIM LE can not read so far...or checking those texture-files, you need to know about the differences between the SKYRIM LE and SE-structure itself.

(Modding this game is for the most people a serendipity-happening, sadly)
