2024 Passions or Kinkyworld which is working?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am new to Sims 3

After reading some various posts about Passions and Kinkyworld I am unsure which one to go with since it seems maybe neither is working?

Anyone know which is best to start using in 2024?

Thanks

I just started playing S3 again and went for using Passion as it's easier to set up IMO.

Make sure you set up the game for using Mods first and get the framework done.

Just google for Sims 3 how to mod.

Also use NRass MC and a bunch of modules including Woohooer, which allows even non romantic sims to also woohoo.

Really wanted to try Kinky but looked like too much to tackle this time around.

I haven't used Passion in a year or two, but it was working just fine the last time I played with it. I have been using KW for the last couple of years, and build 409 works just fine. There is also the very good update to KW that works. I have not updated to the latest build yet, but up to build 421 works very well, and fixes some issues with the official build.

I have removed the mod Animated_WooHoo_Passion_Ver2.7.6.7

I have installed all the content from the mod ONIKI_KinkyWorld_Build409

Did I need to remove anything else related to Passions?

I'm just a bit confused

As long as you removed all the .package files that come with Passion, that should be good. There are about 20 or so.

If you have decided to use KW, there is a bunch of setup that you will need that is described in the first post of the KW thread. I would also recommend that you add the kinky mod package (currently build 423) from the thread that I mentioned.

Unfortunately, Kinky World is more difficult to set up and get started with than Passion is. It adds more features, and it uses more resources than Passion does (e.g., more memory, more CPU time, etc.). Once you get it set up, it is pretty easy to update it, but the initial setup can be confusing for a lot of people, especially since it isn't all documented in one single location.

My general recommendations are:

- use KW build 409

- add Denton47's Kinky Mod

- get Jvsmith's Enhanced Bodies for all ages - with this, you don't need to worry about adding CmarNYC's penis packages or different realistic body mods

- get at least a couple of the animations packages that are pinned in the Sims 3 Downloads forum here. I'd recommend the L666 ones at a minimum, second would be Mike24's animations.

- there is a another mod in the downloads that adds videos for the kinky television channels. By default with KW, you get kinky tv stations, but there are no actual videos with them.

The basic instructions in the main Kinky World thread in the downloads are still accurate, and should be enough to get you started.

A couple of the big problems that new players have with the mod:

- you need to turn on the mod - after installing it, it is not enabled by default, that must be done in game

- register animation packages - after enabling it

- sims won't woohoo, or won't get naked, etc.

At the start, sims have 0 exhibitionism, and very low interest in doing kinky stuff. You can get them to build up their skills by having them read skill books or by watching kinky tv channels. Get exhibition to at least level 1 for your sims. Otherwise, they won't even want to get naked in front of another sim to woohoo. Also, sims just won't be interested in woohoo unless they are horny. Have them flirt with each other, and use "chitchat" and "kinky talk" from the friendly menu, and use interactions from the kinky menu until they have moodlets showing they are horny. You can make a setting that makes all sims accept kinky woohoo all the time, but without doing that, they need to in the proper mood to accept it.

When I start a new game with KW, I have my sim go somewhere private and have them repeatedly remove their clothes (from the kinky > exhibition menu) and put them back on until they reach exhibition level 1. Then I have them watch the primary kinky tv channel until they reach woohoo level 1. The other channels can impact their exhibition skill or their gender preferences, but only the main one increases their woohoo skill.

Once your sims are at level 1 in both those, they will naturally increase those over time as you have them interact with other sims, but I always try to get them to level 1 immediately in a brand new game. Once the world has existed for a while with KW in it, all  sims will naturally be exposed to different kinky influences, and will naturally have some level of interest in it, but at the very beginning, it can be super slow to get anything started, even with married couples that are at 100% relationships.

Thanks for all the advice and instructions.

It is quite a lot to take in and consider.

Now I see why Passions was suggested to me first. KW requires more preparations!

Haha..

So build 409 was the only build available on your earlier link. Is that still the correct one to use of KW?

Build 409 is the best OFFICIAL version from the original modder, OnikiKay. Unfortunately (for us fans of KinkyWorld), she has a patreon and grew bored with working on KW, or possibly just started working more on what her patrons wanted, and has not done any significant updates or fixes in a very long time.

Another modder here on LL has made a mod that you add on top of the official build 409. It is available here in the Sims 3 Downloads section, and has instructions on how to add it on top of build 409, but you need build 409 first.

My link was to the add on version. The page that I linked to has a link at the bottom of the first post for getting build 409. At the TOP of the post, there is a a small picture of the in-game menu, and a button that says "View File". Click on that button, and it will take you to the file download page, where you download the mod, which as of today is for build 423.

Downloads here on LL can be a bit confusing. Some of them attach files to posts, some give links to where the file can be downloaded, and some have "View File" buttons to where the files are located in the "Files" section of LL.

I did get KW to start working a few days back and it has been interesting in how it compares to Passions.

It does seem to be more flexible than passions and has some additional options. Sort of reminds me a bit of wicked whims in Sims 4.

I'm going to now check out the mod that you can add to build 409.

Okay I have now added the mod to the 409 build.

I think it is working it offers options like duo and group.

What extra options does this mod do?

Mainly, it fixes things that don't work quite right, to make the game more stable, less crashes. It also adds some options in the setup menu to allow you to change some things that the stock options that come with build 409 do not allow. The post for the mod describes all the different things that it adds and fixes.

Open the settings:

I do this in every game I play - if there's a setting for something - it will be in the game so in a way it's a bit like a feature list.

Yes KW is complicated - but sadly more so for it's creator as new versions came out with more bugs/features. Once new features stopped being included the Mod finally was stabilized to where it is at build 409. This is the version I still use since I would have an issue switching versions myself (long story posted elsewhere).

Developers spend years making games and they still have to patch and fix after release - these are the 'PROS' remember - so a single person making a huge mod with so many integrations like Kinky World seems amazing that it works at all. Being so familiar with it means it's easy to overlook things others have no clue about but IMO here at the LAB, every relevant question has been asked and answered several times over so get your 'search hat' on and look - you WILL find.
