Buy Anniversary or Special?

I have always played the legendary edition but now that I've seen some mod that doesn't support anymore this version I'm thinking of change version, shoul I buy the Anniversary edition or buy the Special edition+Upgrade to Anniversary?

If I buy the Anniversary can I downgrade to Special edition?

For mod I see the version of the game recommended, it's better buy Skyrim on Steam, GOG or Epic? (I don't see Epic version mentioned but it's the store when I usually buy game)

I don't know what version I will prefer so I was thinking of trying both.

Last thing, do you have used some collection from nexus? What Total Overhaul Collection did you suggest?

SE was replaced by AE. You'd have to buy a physical copy to get SE, and even then its going to be a Steam key and Steam is going to force AE on you. It would be SE in label only. Having control over the things you buy is a dead concept, unless you put effort into fighting the system.

Yes, but when starting a new mod setup, there's probably no reason to stay on 1.5.97. Instead consider 1.6.640 or 1.6.1130. Also keep in mind that its somewhat likely that yet another patch is on its way, considering 1130 broke Steam integration.

Epic? Why...

 

Steam and GOG executables are different, so whichever you pick you'll have to find correct mod versions for your version. GOG would be a no-brainer for me for futureproofing Skyrim, but like I said, the executables are different. For compatibility: Steam.

Collections may be convenient, but it will bite you in the ass later. We've had plenty of people show up on these forums, starting threads like "I installed collection X with 2600 mods and now I want big titties, what do I do?". I realize the other alternative is not appealing. I've been modding Skyrim for a decade and there's still things to do, things to improve; but as far as I know there really is no other approach to it without it turning into a black box that you don't know how to change/fix. People forget this is not the XBox Store. They see big titties and nice graphics and don't realize there's a decade of work behind it.

SE is still listed as SE in Steam. If you get it now you obviously get the most recent patch version. You can downgrade and upgrade versions as you see fit.

 

AE isn't really a different or separate game. I don't understand why people think of it as something new. If anything is just a name for the 2021 update + paid DLC. But it's definitely not a separate game.

This. ^^^^ It caused no end of confusion for people who thought they had to buy the Anniversary DLC, thinking it was a new and different version of Skyrim, in order to update the game. As you mentioned, the game is listed in Steam's game library as "Skyrim SE" - Not "Skyrim AE". And mod creators compounded the confusion by referring to updates of their mods as "Anniversary Version" (when there has been at least 4 SSE updates since the AE DLC was released). All that had to be done is make reference to the actual  *game version* to inform people which one they should download.

Die ausführbaren Dateien von Steam und GOG sind unterschiedlich. Sie müssen also unabhängig davon, welche Sie auswählen, die richtigen Mod-Versionen für Ihre Version finden. GOG wäre für mich eine Selbstverständlichkeit, um Skyrim zukunftssicher zu machen, aber wie gesagt, die ausführbaren Dateien sind anders. Aus Gründen der Kompatibilität: Steam.

 

 

Sammlungen mögen praktisch sein, aber später wird es einem in den Arsch beißen. In diesen Foren sind schon viele Leute aufgetaucht und haben Threads gestartet wie „Ich habe Collection X mit 2600 Mods installiert und jetzt will ich große Titten, was soll ich tun?“. Mir ist klar, dass die andere Alternative nicht attraktiv ist. Ich modifiziere Skyrim seit einem Jahrzehnt und es gibt immer noch viel zu tun und zu verbessern; Aber soweit ich weiß, gibt es wirklich keinen anderen Ansatz, ohne dass es zu einer Blackbox wird, die man nicht ändern/reparieren kann. Die Leute vergessen, dass dies nicht der XBox Store ist. Sie sehen große Titten und schöne Grafiken und merken nicht, dass dahinter ein Jahrzehnt Arbeit steckt.

 

Thank you... I fully agree... even though I currently keep my SE version (1.5.97) (and have it well protected)... I would switch from the LE to the AE straight away.

Just pirate SE after buying AE if you want to "help" Bethesda and award them for Starfield

Just be aware - Bethesda changed the CK interface in 1130, so it is not compatible with the 1.5.97 executable.

Downgrading is a lot more now than just replacing the Skyrim executable.

I bit the bullet, and 1130 is my new baseline.

On gog, they propose skyrim se and the anniversary update, but also skyrim ae, BOTH ARE THE SAME ENGINE VERSION, the se version simply don't have the creation club mods that are installed by their anniversary update.
So buying on gog skyrim se + the anniversary update gives the same game as if you bought directly skyrim ae. The difference? Two installers and two payment in the first case, one installer and one payment in the second cas, so once installed, it's stricly the same, but for your wallet there may be a difference.

Besides, the 1.6.1130 update didn't reach gog skyrim yet.
