Thermite Dragon Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Just got back into Skyrim after a few years, built myself up a mod suite I'm pretty comfortable with in SE with the latest build. With the Winter sale, the AE upgrade is 50% off, so I'm considering getting it, but looking for opinions on whether or not it's worth it, or if it's likely to break things on me?
Just Don't Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 The Extra content from CC won't break your game. It surely is of questionable quality, but it's just new files. Nothing crazy will happen to your game (other than having a bunch of quests autostarting or something). You're already playing on 1130 when it doesn't has Steam integration (no achievements nor controller support, can cause crashes and other problems depending on the mods you're using), and SkyUI isn't fully functional without a workaround and some mods not being updated for it yet. And there is going to be a new update (already confirmed, rumored to be released during the first weeks of Jan). So the chances of 1130 getting any attention are slim at best.
FauxFurry Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 It is more likely that the wrong mod might break official Anniversary Edition content by occupying the same space or changing assets that the content requires to run properly. It is a nice little bundle of extra content which neither will make or break one's game but adds a bit more variety for those who have done more than one playthrough of the old base game while having the reliable availability that free mods lack. Creation Club content can serve as base to free mods (many of which I have in my load order right now) that can be counted on to not vanish overnight as it was successful enough to not be discontinued. There is little to no chance that one will have to inquire as to what happened to a piece of CCC on a forum somewhere as the company that sells it would announce if or when it is going to be pulled from the storefront.
JimUpdating Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 if you are returning after a few years, then something I've come across is some of the mods here and other sites are gradually changing. The mod limit from LE forced a lot of integration (one mod for multiple changes) to keep the load list under control. With SE, and especially AE 1130, load lists can be huge - I cam across a post somewhere that had a mod list into the 1000 mods. So there is a change to frameworks (one mod with library of subroutines, then multiple mods calling those subroutines), with examples being Toys, and Devourment. Combine this with some authors moving around between games and life, some of the older mods (sexlab survival, fame) seem to be in the process of inspiring more modular sets of new mods (BM licenses, Gossip). Then there are some brilliant/strange new tools, such as the interactive AI followers, voice recognition for some commands, dynamic animation replacer with skill and armor weight variations for movements.

Is there any reason you'd want to? I am legitimately curious if anything in the Anniversary Edition is worth buying.

Well, partially I'm considering it because I am slightly obsessive about games and want everything, so it feels wrong not having it. I acknowledge that is entirely irrational. I'm not sure what all it includes, I haven't poked too far into it, wanted to get a vibe check here about it, especially for adult modding because... what's the point of playing Skyrim if I can't make it super pretty and risk getting abused by various critters and brigands? >.>

It sounds like you already made up your mind. If you want my opinion read on: As someone who doesn't own AE I'm not impressed at all by the trailers and the list of Creation Club content in the AE package looks like it is 90% weapons and armors. Not worth it in my books but then again I don't own Anniversary Edition so I can't say for certain if it is worth it.
