Gray Geist
Hello! I've been having some major issues with CTDs about every 15-45 minutes and it appears to be at random: 1. Entering/exiting buildings 2. In combat or out of combat 3. Walking around. Below I have attached Papyrus logs (in zipped format) of the most recent crashes which (some) appear to be related potentially to Wet & Cold or Footprints. I have no idea how to read the Papyrus script other than to look for "VM is freezing" "VM is frozen" etc, and even at that I'm not entirely sure what that means. I have utilized BOSS, followed Mod author instructions and researched on load order and mine should be fine but I will attach that as well. Furthermore I have not changed uGrids or messed with .ini other than when necessary for Skyrim Flora Overhaul, ENBs, Memory Boost, etc. I am currently using the up to date version of SKSE. I am running at a maximum RAM of 805 MB and VRAM of 2,013 MB, no where near the 3.1 GB limit. Can I get some help figuring out what is going on here and how to fix it and/or patch it up. I am well aware I am running upwards of 170 + mods and expect CTDs but would like to mitigate them. Thank you! ballsy
Quoted from Sajuukkhar on steam forums: "For the VMs-VM freezing is you doing anything that pauses the game, such as opening the main menu, and the game is in the process of pausing, as it takes it a second to fully pause.-VM frozen is the game paused.-VM thawing is you leaving anything that pauses the game." cornbreadtm
If you know it's Wet & Cold and Footprints and I know it's Wet & Cold and Footprints.... then why make the thread, just remove them and stop CTDing like everyone else does. Sorry, it's just that 4/5 threads on the tech forum are about CTDs and they all have wet & cold and Footprints in their load orders. Then go "who would have guessed it could have been them" when they remove them and stop CTDing. Since you can google either mod and see tons of peopling CTDing from either of them... it's exhausting. Gray Geist
ballsy, Thank you for letting me know about those. cornbreadtm, I understand where you're coming from . I actually didn't know for sure that those mods were causing it as my previous play through had little issue with Wet & Cold. Since making this post I have gone and disabled (unchecked in NMM) Wet & Cold and Footprints which has led to me being able to play the game much longer but it has not solved the CTD issue. I have attached another file to the original post (as well as this post) that shows the papryus log for a crash event that occurred when entering the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood. If you could please help me dig into it I assure you I will follow your direction. Thank you! Papyrus.0(this is a CTD after disabling Wet and Cold and Footprints).7z Link to comment

Get them sorted using BOSS, rebuild the patch (right click rebuild if you didn't know), go play the game again and copy and paste the log into something like a .rtf document where it's much easier to read. Gray Geist
According to the mod authors DCO has to be loaded before Dance of Death. I believe if you place those elsewhere in the list they will become useless. According to the mod author Deadly Dragons should not be bashed. I'm thinking it needs to be loaded last and after the bashed patch to ensure it's dragon stats are primary over DCO dragon stats and Requiem dragon stats. I have been copying and pasting the logs into an .rtf file but still can't make out all of the codes. Link to comment
ballsy
According to the mod author Deadly Dragons should not be bashed. Sorry, could you quote the part where the author of DD says this? I've read the readme but he never states this. If you're referring to the second solution of the troubleshooting section, he means that CTDs when launching the game are caused by missing masters, and that bashed patches should be rebuilt when you remove mods that are a master file of the bashed patch. Gray Geist
ballsy, Apologies for the misinformation. I have searched his readme and found no mention of it having to be placed outside of the Bashed Patch, I found a message between myself and another experienced modder who said that the DD author had recommended it being out of the patch which might as well be hearsay. Apollodown calls for DCO to be placed BEFORE DoD for compability. Since Requiem makes edits to DragonRace, DCO has to be placed after it. Apparently one can get those edits back by using Deadly Dragons, which I assume should be loaded last in comparison to them all of the other mods. Hence:RequiemDCODoDDeadly DragonsI guess where my thinking went is I'm not really sure if I should include Deadly Dragons in a Bashed Patch as the Bashed Patch will also include Requiem hence both will combine their changes to DragonsRace and essentially ruin Deadly Dragons when it should be taking precedent. Please correct my logic if I'm not thinking correctly here. And thank you for the consistent help on this! Link to comment
ballsy
If you ever need exclude something from the bashed patch, the correct procedure should be as follows: uncheck the exclusion build the patch recheck the exclusion Excluding Deadly Dragons from the patch could have been the correct way to go about it in an older version. So what the guy said may have been correct during a certain point in time. If you are unsure whether to build the patch with Deadly Dragons included, just do it anyways and load DD and the bashed patch in TES5edit. Look for conflicting records. If it isn't clear enough load Requiem as well. I'm guessing it's fine to include DD in the bashed patch, since it loads last out of these mods. What you don't want happening is the bashed patch carrying over records from mods before DD instead because you didn't include Deadly Dragons in the patch process. In all likelihood, it's fine. The bashed patch mostly handles leveled lists, and some miscellaneous things as well. When I say some, it means quite a small amount. Link to comment

Gray Geist
cornbreadtm, No that Papyrus log I uploaded was on the original save with W&C and Footprints removed but a different CTD occured. Since the post I have started on a new save and will be working on testing it as well as implementing ballsy's instructions. If or when CTD occurs I will post it here if I cannot decipher it myself. ballsy, Thank you for the instructions. When I go to wryebash I only see/can do the following: 1. Rebuild patch 2. Option to "Deactive these mods prior to patching", which I skip. 3. Screen opens up with "Update Bashed Patch,. 0.esp as header. 4. GrimReaper
Do you have any enb installed? The HDT physics system? From my experience, if you get random CTDs, i.e. ones you are not able to replicate over and over again then it's most likely not a mod conflict. Link to comment
Gray Geist
GrimReaper, Yes I am running ENB series 0.221 with Project ENB Realistic Settings + COT which is optimized for 0.221 version. I agree this may definitely explain some of the CTDs but not all of the ones that were occurring earlier. Link to comment

Gray Geist
ballsy, Ok great, I've done as you've instructed regarding the Bashed Patch then and everything should be A-okay with that, I have it at the end with nothing after it. GrimReaper
Another thing that I don't see very often is the advice to not use autosaves or quicksaves. From what I heard, Skyrim handles quick- and autosaving in a way that it doesn't contain all scripts that are running in your game, resulting in the possibility of orphaned scripts and such - or at least that there is a possibility that this can happen. I have no idea if this is true, however I think there may be some truth behind it, especially regarding autosaves. Skyrim tries to save the game when leaving or entering a cell which means that the game is saving while it is loading, so there is the possibility of some ugly hiccups the engine might produce, even more so if you have multiple non-vanilla scripts running in the background. What's even worse is that those hiccups might get baked into your next save, resulting in a mess that will make your game ultimately more instable the more you play. But, like I said, I don't really know if this is true or not, just thinking a bit out loud here. Link to comment
ballsy
Something I forgot to mention. This step: 2. Option to "Deactive these mods prior to patching", which I skip. shows which mods are mergeable. Any mods that are deactivated get merged into the bashed patch, meaning that the bashed patch will do what those mods do. They don't have to be activated after that so basically you get to save .esp space. Link to comment
