Patriguz Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 It's just a personal reflection, or a way to vent my frustrations with this game among people who probably understand me. I just started another (I've lost count of how many times I've done this) reinstall of the game. Suddenly mods that I consider essential stopped working, sliders work sometimes but sometimes they don't, the sims go through walls or each other for no apparent reason and things like that, I think I will filter mods and objects and do it again the Megapackages and,,, Finally the tedious "standard emergency procedure". This will take me some time and frankly, I'm starting to get tired. I have finished the Pictorial with the December Playmate and at this moment I am afraid it will be the last. I'll probably look into sharing my Sims in case anyone is interested in continuing with them or finds them useful in some way. Anyway, who knows, maybe the reboot will work and I won't spend a week browsing through backups and checking endless CC lists on the Sims3 dashboard,,,So much fun for little money! If I can get this working again I will eat my words. Until then, greetings, Merry Christmas and an apology for using you as a cloth for tears. So that not everything is bad, I leave you a cover and a couple of posters for a new magazine I was trying to make. 7

I think everybody who play Sims 3 suffered crashes or unwanted behavior. The more if one use mods and CC. I am using sims 3 with patch 1.67 only with all EP ans SPs installed. But however it is, never I needed to reinstall the whole game. Those files remain untouched so far. I mess around only in the "documents/Electronic Arts/Sims3" and especially in the mod folder there. Have different setups there where I just rename the different setups i.e. "Sims 3.worlds" frequently depending what game save I would use. Lately I had also many crashes and sort out suspect and rarely needed CC and mods. At the moment I clear out my skins which create trouble too. I always wondered how you get your games working with such many CC and the obviously needed poses a.s.o. To my experience many CC especially clothes are not good made. Many are simply copies of textures and many creators simply leave the then unused textures and meshes in the packages. This blow up the game and may create some hidden conflicts. Files inside some packages are corrupt too, i.e. _IMG, VPXY, TXTC. If S3PE can not open it and show an error in the right field, I remove such package out of the mod folder. Further I try to reduce mods and CC to the needed only and sort out suspect CC immediately. And, CC where I am sure that they are good, I merge together in one file with S3PE category wise. I.e. shoes, clothes, hairs, skins a.s.o. So meanwhile the game runs OK, but still crashes sometimes, skins become black, sim stuck and and and...... So please keep your chin up and give the game another chance, It would be sad to miss your nice pictures and magazines here. They are very much appreciated. 3
Patriguz Posted November 12, 2023 Author Posted November 12, 2023 The words of encouragement are appreciated, (And I take note of some of the things you mention that I think will be useful to me.) Actually I have "theme" packs that I add and remove for the girls' different pictorials (West, Golf, Hawaii, Halloween, to name the last ones that I remember) but I'm afraid that my PC is showing signs of fatigue and maybe The phrase I used as a title could apply more to the PC than to me.. Also around this time I try to take group photos and this year there are already 36 girls on the same stage plus decorations, poses, costumes, etc., etc... Anyway, I think it all adds up and in the end a little recapitulation and slimming down the CC folder doesn't hurt either, I hope it doesn't take me too long. Thanks for the support and advice. 3
landess Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 I think we all know PC, the Sims 3 and mods well enough to understand it's more than ingredients, otherwise everything would go into a blender at once. I often worry about 'losing' small steps taken to make one particular thing work - it does, so we forget about that small step. Other times as we add mods, many of which needed other mods first, we didn't have to worry about sequential loading and playing before continuing after verification of functionality. Then again after reinstalling Windows, I cannot get it to look just like I did before, plus there's other crap I don't remember. As I've said, Consoles were made for a reason and using a PC really is master race stuff. Sometimes I'm not up to the challenge as they keep adding more 'shiny'. 2
