Game won't launch when going above 257 active plugins (176 ESPs)

I accidentaly posted this in the LE section, so I'm posting it where it should be.

 

So the 256 plugin limit is for ESP only.

 

When I hover over the number that shows my active plugins, it shows me 176 ESMs + ESPs and 81 ESLs. Together that makes it 257.

 

At 257 my game starts as normal. However if I add one more mod (258), the game crashes on launch. What about ESLs am I missing? Shouldn't it work?

 

Edit 1: Does it have something to do with this?

Edit 2: I don't understand how can someone have 1k+ ELSs and 240 ESPs. If I go above the 257 (ESMs, ESPs and ESLs combined, see first post), my game won't launch. I can't see what's the problem here. Can someone explain (in a very simple terms)?

 

Edit 3: I was trying to activate different mods, and managed to start a game on 261. I continued trying some more, but now I'm back at 257. ANY mod I try to activate above 257 makes the game crash. Could it have something to do with mod conflicts? While I don't exclude this option, the fact that any combination of mods work under 257 makes me believe the problem is somewhere else. I never had any problems with crashes or anything, until now that I went over 257 mods. This is the first time my game won't even launch.

I'm using Skyrim VR, with SE mods. One guy on a discord told me:

 

"Skyrimvr can’t read esl properly. So you have a total of 256 plug-in. As far as I know esl can’t be loaded in properly. ESP flagged as esl can be loaded in but will count towards the plug-in limit."

 

I guess there is no way around this then.

I have never reached the 150 mods when playing with skyrim ! 

 

My only advice is to merge with bach-patch .

Or you can assemble all clothing , armours , weapons , buildings etc files.esp to one personnal.esp when there is no scripts included with TesEdit/XEdit . You can try even keep your save file if you do it one by one ; combining one to an other , deleting the one combined and resaving .
