2024 Summer Mod Update

It's a warm season over at Oakshire Forest so now's as good time as any for Purse to explore the dungeon again without all of that exhausting warm clothes! But she's not the only one to be nude for the summer...

Pochette joins in on the naked fun too!

NaturistPochettePreviewShort.png.b64442d1a6463a40d96b72414e2ce0e4.png

There's now a separate mod that replaces Pochette's swimwear with...nothing at all. Absolutely nothing but air.

At this time though, there's no other lewd variations like boots only or bottomless.
The mod only affects her summer costume that has the blue bag/shell. Her default outfit with the purple bag/shell stays on, but that may change in the future.

Ever wanted to go through the story but find it jarring that no one notices Purse is missing her clothes? Well, wait no longer...

NPC Nudity Reactions for Story Mode

This optional immersive mod edits the dialogue in Story Mode so that other characters would actually react to Purse's state of undress.

It also tweaks the narrative that explains why Purse is, and remains, naked. Think about it. If Purse can only use items like weapons and armour when they're stored inside her backpack even though realistically, she would be carrying and wearing them respectively instead, shouldn't she be only clothed if her outfit is inside the backpack as well?

While I can't make a mod that makes Purse's clothes as an actual item in-game that would affect her appearance to follow this logic, this dialogue mod instead has her officially forfeiting her clothes so she can leave the dungeon with her newfound magical (or cursed) backpack that could help rebuild her town, or she'd be too encumbered to move. It's either that or die trying to escape with her handy sword and shield left behind.

Although this is silly, recontextualising the story like this would fully maintain the consistency of this game's logic that can justify Purse's nudity.

It's not complete, but the dialogue you can find in the beginning of the game has been edited.

This mod currently assumes that Purse is the only one naked, but it may take other playable characters into account in the future.
Pochette is most likely since she's apparently raised in the dungeon by hermit crabs which would make her a feral child, so wouldn't it make sense if she doesn't wear clothes and wouldn't care to wear them because she wouldn't know anything about social decency?

Both mods can be found on this page which has now been overhauled to include all of my NSFW mods related to Backpack Hero:

Yup, iiiiiit's broken again-- the text replacement seems to work, but Purse puts her clothes back on the moment she puts the backpack on. I'd like to point out that the game does have official mod support, what with it having a Mods folder and everything-- would there be a method of using that to implement mods like this?

Well that's annoying, a measly 4 MB update that just adds a billboard to the dev's next game is enough to break my mods.

I suggest downgrading the game to the previous version if you want to use my nude mods for the time being.

The game doesn't officially support texture mods yet so sadly no, I can't take advantage of the mods folder.

https://backpack-hero.com/mods/#mod-support-status

If I could, I would, it'd be much better than having to use UABE to make mod installers for each time the game updates with new assets.

It's going to be a while before I make my mods compatible again though because I don't always have the time or even the mood to work on my NSFW stuff.

My modpack now supports the Summer Update, again (V1.0.1187.0). Sorry for the long wait.

Not only is this a compatibility patch, Pochette can now be nude in her default appearance which means you can encounter her in her natural state on Story Mode.
This should reinforce her edited backstory in which she was always naked since she was raised by wild creatures like a feral child so naturally, she wouldn't wear clothes.
The original version of the mod that replaces the swimsuit still exists for those who like naked Pochette with a blue shell and a sunflower on her head.

The dialogue mod has also been updated to cover the scenario where a nude Purse encounters a nude Pochette, along with a bunch of other additions thanks to @tanx_killa2.
I wish I could share screenshots of the aforementioned scenario but I don't have a save file that lets me see that scene quick.
In the future, I might make an alternate dialogue variation where it's only Pochette that is nude while Purse never had a cursed backpack that makes her naked.

do these work with the demo?

i still have it installed from prior to it being removed.

Don't expect them to work with the demo since that version is likely outdated with reduced content that affects the assets' File IDs which results in the mod patcher to replace the wrong sprites.

Hey! I've been loving this mod and wanted to add to the Nude fun by making a mod for Sachel. While I feel like I could do the Texture work, I don't fully understand the process of ripping the base textures to edit them. i tired downloading UABE but i have no idea what im doing with it, lol, any chance i could get some help?

  1. Download UABE from here: https://github.com/SeriousCache/UABE/releases
  2. Open UABE and click File -> Open
  3. Find your Backpack Hero_Data folder (the location where you installed the game)
  4. Select all "sharedassetsX.assets" and click Open. You can select multiple files clicking on them while holding Shift or Ctrl.
  5. Expand one of the "sharedassetsX.assets" files and click on "Assets". The sprites you need are most likely in sharedassets1.
  6. Click on "Type" on the list of assets and scroll until you find the game's assets in Texture2D format. Those are the sprites you need to edit.
  7. You could re-sort the list by clicking on "Name" and then "Type" so the Texture2D files are in alphabetical order.
  8. You could find Satchel's sprites by looking for files that have his name. Some sprites have the same names for his alternate costumes but otherwise, they'd be labelled "v3", "surfer", or "rivals".
  9. To mass extract the sprites, use Shift/Ctrl to select multiple files then click on the "Plugins" button and "Export to .png". From there, you can edit the sprites with any image editor you like.

Hopefully someone turns this into a full-on nsfw game now that it's been spread around for free on epic games. Sex statuses and naked enemies would really tie it together I'd say.

I would love to see things like clothing tear, masturbation, and sex animations upon defeat (or victory), but that's going to require someone much smarter than me who can somehow manipulate the game's coding to have those sexual features.

I know it's possible, I've seen a few Unity games that received some crazy mods despite not even having official modding support.

This game is planned to have better modding support though, but the developers haven't updated the game in like a year.

It's still possible to have naked enemies however, it's just a matter of who's willing to spend the time to edit all those sprites.

Nudity Reactions has been updated with more and rewritten references to Purse's state of undress.

This includes NPCs found in the dungeon and unique characters at Haversack Hill in Story Mode.

I believe I covered most of the dialogue that can be accessed with only the first dungeon area, The Crypt, explorable.

The next update will focus on the next batch of dialogue when more locations like the Deep Cave are unlocked.

As usual, you can find this mod as part of the modpack here:

Hey there! I'm absolutely loving your mod and wanted to say thank you for your work!

I'm thinking of trying to edit the dialogue myself using the CSV file and was wondering if there was anything I needed to know so I don't break anything? Or just any tips you had for doing it?

I opened it up a copy with Excel and figure I can just convert it back to CSV after.

To edit the dialogue for this game, you have to edit the D column. The C column is just reference of the original English text for translators.

It also has to be the "fixed" version of the file. The only difference compared to the non-fixed version is that commas in sentences are replaced with carets (^), which are printed as commas in-game, since commas are used for separating strings/values of the file.

You have to be very careful with commas because if you use one instead of carets to punctuate a sentence, it'll muck up the order and structure of the localisation file which causes the game to print out "translation not found for key ___".

The order for NPCs in the hometown are alphabetical so if a character says "translation not found", look for a character whose name is earlier in the alphabet until you find someone who's saying things properly and that would be your clue on what part of the localisation file you need to check for errors.

Comparing the original file and modded file together with WinMerge can be helpful to identify a line of text that has a missing or added comma.

I'm pretty sure you could always edit the CSV on Excel and save the file in the same format.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. I was wondering about the carets in the dialogue so that clears things up. Never would've guessed it could be so detrimental.

Never tried this kind of stuff before so I appreciate the info! The translation errors would've thrown me for a loop, I'll look out for those.

Thanks again, Sir!
