EternalDamned Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I have never tried an ENB. So should I? WIll it help or hurt performance? Where should I start if I indeed should try ENB? Incidentally, I don't ever bother with taking screenshots or recording video's. I just want the best looking/performing game I can on a midrange pieced together windows vista system.
Rayblue Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Before using an ENB, consider your PC specs. Typically ENB requires the following: * dual-core CPU * 4gb of memory (baseline); 8gb or more of memory (recommended) * a video card with at least 512mb -- better discrete than shared An ENB would be okay within vanilla, but if you start adding up texture and mesh mods, or use visual FX, depending on how they're made they'll affect gameplay performance. You can start on how to install and use it: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB
ettorg Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Currently in love with HRK ENB, with a bit of Realvision tweaks and some personal tweaks for preference. Tried Unbleak ENB and Project ENB, which were nice, but not what I wanted. Just tried HRK, overall a very nice ENB and I do like it alot better then Project ENB, but it is still a little bit to bright in my opinion you just have to change interiorday/night value in enb menu (works for interior and exterior. I use HKR but changed some values (less ambient lightning...) Looks like this by night
EternalDamned Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Thanks for the help Rayblue. Tried ENB but apparently it doesn't much care for my low end GT630 1Gb. Crashes once I try to load a game. But I am able to use the ENBoost with no graphics.
GECK.O Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Thanks for the help Rayblue. Tried ENB but apparently it doesn't much care for my low end GT630 1Gb. Crashes once I try to load a game. But I am able to use the ENBoost with no graphics. You can change the quality of the filters or turn off some of unnecessary settings. To turn off unnecessary feature, try load the game with ENB and hit SHIFT+ENTER to bring the menu. Or you can edit enbseries.ini with notepad. Find and edit this part into like this: [EFFECT]UseOriginalPostProcessing=false UseOriginalObjectsProcessing=false EnableBloom=true EnableAdaptation=true EnableDepthOfField=false EnableAmbientOcclusion=false EnableDetailedShadow=false EnableSunRays=false EnableSkyLighting=false EnableImageBasedLighting=false EnableReflection=false EnableSoftParticles=false EnableParticleLights=false EnableSunGlare=false EnableSubSurfaceScattering=false EnableLens=false EnableWater=true EnableUnderwater=false That is the minimal setting that you can enjoy ENB setting, somehow even better than without ENB or using SweetFX, since ENB came with a kind of RAM fix. Change some of them into true, like EnableDetailedShadow if your computer can handle more. And delete effects.txt file too. I have never tried an ENB. So should I? WIll it help or hurt performance? Where should I start if I indeed should try ENB? Incidentally, I don't ever bother with taking screenshots or recording video's. I just want the best looking/performing game I can on a midrange pieced together windows vista system. I'm using PROJECT ENB Realistic Edition right now (with CoT + ELE + ELFX). Of course I recommend it over the others. Tried so many kind of ENB settings, but at the end I decided to use PROJECT ENB. First, because of designed for CoT. Second, for the photo-realistic looks. Third, I like the perfect balance between outdoor, interiors and dungeons. (PS: I also did a little modification to make it suit with my taste). You probably need to calibrate your monitor like increasing your monitor backlight or change it into a gaming/video mode in your monitor (if featured), if you find it a bit darker and less vibrant.
Spyder Arachnid Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Thanks for the help Rayblue. Tried ENB but apparently it doesn't much care for my low end GT630 1Gb. Crashes once I try to load a game. But I am able to use the ENBoost with no graphics. It all depends on what ENB you're trying to use. If you are trying to use a high end ENB on a low end computer, it probably will crash. You gotta use an ENB that works with your system, and obviously, install it properly or else it will crash most definitely. What are your system specs? Your tastes in color palettes? Fantasy, Realistic, Gloomy, Colorful, etc? Maybe we can help you find an ENB that will work nicely for you and help you set it up.
Guest Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 One fine reason to use an enb is Project Parallax. It's an amazing effect for such small overhead. Of all the town and city overhauls, that's been the one that's impressed me most.

EternalDamned Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The ENB I tried was straight from the ENB website ENBSeries v0.236 for TES Skyrim. And to be perfectly honest about it, my main desire is for my lovely ladies to look as good as possible! I could care less if the sky doesn't look quite "real" or if caves look too bright for realism or if there isn't a single shadow anywhere...etc etc. I want every woman in my game to look like they are about to melt on your tongue. I have been experimenting with different skins, with very limited success. So far UNP Blessed Body UNPB with BBP, then Alt Navetsea UNP seamless followed by Babes of Skyrim, seems to get me the best results. Pretty faces for the vast majority of Skyrims women, with Apachii hairs. But their bodies can look kind of plastic. I have tried most of the skin-textures mentioned in qtpie's topic on this forum. IE: Real Girls skin; The "skin" looked good, but OMG what it did to those poor womens breasts! When undressed every woman no matter the weight had the flabby looking tits of a 90+ yr old woman! I'm happy with C-cup btw, not into enormous HH etc sized.
Rayblue Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 This is my enbseries.ini setup: [EFFECT] UseOriginalPostProcessing=false UseOriginalObjectsProcessing=false EnableBloom=true EnableAdaptation=true EnableDepthOfField=false EnableAmbientOcclusion=false EnableDetailedShadow=true EnableSunRays=true EnableSkyLighting=true EnableImageBasedLighting=true EnableReflection=false EnableSoftParticles=true EnableParticleLights=true EnableSunGlare=true EnableSubSurfaceScattering=true For some, depth of field is enabled only for screencapping and is not recommended for low-end graphic cards. SSAO is an option; disabling it increases performance. Some effects can also be disabled for added FPS. All of Bronze316's presets are best known for performance while delivering good vivid coloring; there are other presets that are optimized for performance that they can be used on a laptop. Once you use an ENB, it's hard to go back to vanilla.

Many people did experiment to combine many kind of texture and also did some modification on it. If you saw a good character screenshot, you should ask the owner what texture they use and the ENB setting. You must know that a good screenshot was taken under special circumstances, it's not always that good under every condition, lighting and place in the game. If you look for a great ENB for character...my recommendation PROJECT ENB above! The special setting makes any character like a real. No shining plastic look. The combination between subsurface scattering and right specular lighting setting, created an amazing look. I think it was designing to use default specular map. You need to delete all xxxxxx_s.dds in character texture folder so the game use the default specular map.

You have to design your own settings with that one. I'd suggest checking out the Nexus for your ENB needs. Just type ENB in the search bar, and browse what they are offering. Those are all presets, already made up for you, so you don't have to build your own. Seeing as you haven't used an ENB before, it's best to get a preset first and then after you have gotten more comfortable with it, start tweaking it yourself. Then go all out and build your own. But to get started for your first time, I'd definitely suggest trying one of the presets on the Nexus instead. Make sure to read the description, as they tell you what ENB Series to download for their preset, and they tell you what ini changes to make as well. Some even require certain mods like CoT or RLO/ELFX. As for skin textures, have you tried SG Female Textures Renewal yet? Gorgeous texture set, one of my favs.
EternalDamned Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I finally found a combination/install order I like for skins. UNPB Redux Project followed by Babes of Skyrim then placing SG Renewal on last changing that to 4k with no scar, pubic hair and wet skin. For the first time ever I have no seem. And I don't mean it's just not a very noticeable one, but I can't see any seem at all even crouched on top of a woman's nude body. As for the ENB I suspect I should actually read up on them more. Since I saw that ENB sometimes has issues with MSI stuff and my MB is an MSI with their update/OC'ing/monitoring stuff on it. I don't OC this old girl, but since I have been running it for 7 years without a single reformat, while every piece of hardware has changed, caution seems to be my wisest course right now. I really appreciate all the help and suggestions, everyone has given me. Now If I can just learn how to use CK properly I'll be set!
Heromaster Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I'm using Realvision ENB. With the recommended mods it looks really awesome and gives me the right mood to dive into Skyrim.
EternalDamned Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Ok so I managed to get ENB working, and am trying Project ENB CoT now. But I had to reduce my graphics from 1600x900 down to 1280x720 to be able to maintain 20fps. I had to disable most of the advanced features of ENB to prevent it from CTD the moment I tried to enter a game. Now my questions are 1)Is it possible using the injector version rather than wrapper version could let me use more/better effects? 2)Do you guys know any good enb ini tweaks I may want to try? 3) Come February, I should be able to put around $200 or so into upgrading this computer. So what do you think I should try to upgrade? Video card from present Geforce GT 630 with 2Gb ddr3 ram to something like a MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP. or maybe CPU from present i3-3240 @3.40 Ghz 3mb cache and 2 cores/4 threads to a i5-3570 @3.40 Ghz 6mb cache and 4 cores/4 threads Or I could upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 since I refuse to even consider Windows H8te!
Guest Hupla Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I've always wanted to try a enb. I'll check out some of these.
Anya Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I'm using the 112 ENB with custom Ini and effects, along with an ingenious color palette. In my opinion, it's probably the best color palette I've ever seen. Has grain and exagerrated eye adaption. The best part, I know this is said and promised alot, but, its performance is incredible. No AO or Dof (Dynavison is perfect for me). Couldn't play without ELFX or CoT.
...0... Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Enb with WATER 2(i use) or pure waters only for that i never wanne go back to vanilla RealVision/HRK-CoT-RLO-WATER 2-Skyrim winter overhaul. No textures installed
Sunja44 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I used Realvision before and now I use an adjusted Kountervibe preset from here: Prod80's special Kountervibe Preset The second file is actually an adjusted Kountervibe Extensive preset combined with CoT, ELFX, ELE and a weathermod of its own (Rain + Fog). Realvision was and is cool, but the SSAO and the shadows convinced me to keep the other for now. The less saturation of the special K-ENB Extensive preset actually helps somewhat for the to bright SOF flowers during certain weathers: Screenshots Besides that, this preset looks great on not so sunny days too. I often visit Boris' ENB site and always read posts where he moans "good looking water is not important for users".... Boris has no idea how important his great water actually is: Water is important
Mordyn Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I was using RealVision until now, I see this thread has a lot of suggestions so I'll try some of them
ettorg Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 For me now it's a mix. I take the performance of real like enb (enb ini) sweet fx from hrk the palette of any other enb, with environment, sky...settings (actually somber antique) This because my computer is low in cpu/gpu...it works this way

Before that, I got addicted to much of XBox Far Cry because of the visuals, including the water effects.
jimdandy28 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I am currently testing Opethfeldt7 enb with a mix of Step and tpc+drigger gui and Relighting Skyrim+ELE. I am liking the results thus far. Still lining out game changes. Doing this play through using SkyRe as a base with some additional other tweaks.
hryh23k9823u Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I hate enb's, I always felt like they just add a screen of dirt over the game but... well enboost demands its territory, and since then I tried some cool presets, being Polo ENB my favourite by far. Sadly, it acts weird in some situations like under rain and shadows are usually glitched with it, but in therms of realism, at least to take screenshots, its still my favourite. Sure I could solve those problems if its intructions werent in japanese ;o Real Vision is cool if you lower the saturation OR play with the subsurface scattering (main reason for me to use Polo ENB instead, skin is so realistic...), I also tried Bleak ENB, without vignette and film grain (DX) looks really acceptable, but too dark in interiors.
