SchlongsOfSkyrim.dll causing a crash, somehow

For some reason, I'm not sure why, trying to load an older save crashes the game, and the crash log says that SchlongsOfSkyrim.dll is the culprit. However, when I load a newer save, it works totally fine. For reference, this was working totally fine earlier today, and for some reason it's only shitting itself now. I haven't modified the dll file at all, as far as I'm aware. Can someone help me fix this?

You changed your loadorder most likely. Remove thr sos dll from the skse/plugins folder (only the dll, not the entire SOS mod), launch your game, load that save and once you're in game make a new save, close the game and put the dll back in the skse/plugins folder. Now you should be able to load your last save without crashing. You might need to redo some settings in the SOS MCM since that info is gone because of the missing dll for the first load.

Try not to alter your loadorder that much, if you make any changes to the SOS plugins it'll crash your game again.

It works! Thank you so much! ❤️

I recently got this error again. Is there no permanent fix for this in 2024 yet? Its a hassle to removed/add .dll file everytime I change load order.

Not using SOS. Or rewriting the DLL. One is way easier than the other as an user.

Set up load rules so SoS is in the same place by making them load after SoS as i'd doubt most mods care where they are in relation to SoS

Prolly be more time consuming than removing dll, loading, saving, putting dll back tho

As far as I know that version was originally made when Bethesda wen't update-crazy after F76 flopped. It's a bandaid for a time when there was no compatible dll version. The dll-less version probably works fine, but one thing to keep in mind there is that you're either losing features or offloading all the work the dll did onto Papyrus - a system that's artificially gimped to an insane degree and really doesn't need any more work to do as it is.

the dll-less SOS is an update to SOS SE 1.1.4.... as far as i know, that is the most up to date SOS that we have, there is indeed a trade off, which SOS is now slightly slower when applying new shlong to actor... but it only do so initially as it now has a build in cacha system, so a repeat application of the same shlong should have no impact....

so at the end it's really up to you if you want to use the dll version and deal with crashes everytime you accidentally change load order or use the dll-less version to fix that bug completely with a slight performance trade off..

It's a workaround. The DLL has been updated for pretty much all the major versions after 1.5.97 up to the current 1.6.1170. There is a trade-off and there are limitations for that workaround. I wouldn't recommend it over other alternatives (The new gentleman, or even SOS light would be an improvement honestly)
