Hakuna_Matata Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 OK so let me be more specific. If I'm playing as Daedra Seducer (a non-custom race), your race logic breaks down. I thought you had fixed this, that's why I tried the mod again in the first place. Using Mermadic Transformation does not turn me back because apparently your script does not handle the case where I wasn't a regular race to begin with. Then, the siren transformation does try to turn me back but doesn't really, because I keep wearing the tail and I keep triggering the animations for having a tail. Manually going to the inventory and wearing an outfix gives me my legs back. I don't think this issue is related to the race changing one above. Also: What exactly are the benefits of turning into a mermaid? You never actually spell that out, or maybe I have missed it. You get 20 more magicka or something like that? You get the siren voice spell that is like a Harmony illusion spell. You also get Mermaid song which allows you to lure and kill humans. But why would I do that, again? Do I get any benefit from it or am I just murdering innocent sailors (according to lore that's why mermaids do, right?).

One of them is on Solstheim. So you travel there by boat and have legs, and the book is on land, so when you get there you have legs. All the previous spells turned you into a mermaid. The quest says cast the siren transformation spell. You cast it. It does nothing. You get a popup saying the spell washes through you and doesn't do anything. I think that's because you changed its meaning along the way to be the spell to turn you back into having legs, when before it was a spell that also gave you a tail if you had none. That's what I mean with "the spell fails the quest".

The quest description says it quite openly as well: "The book was there, as promised, deep enough for no mortal to find, as if waiting for someone who knew how to become a bride of the ocean. The next part of her story and her knowledge awaited according to the book. The spellcraft sounds complex but within my reach, I should try to turn into a siren myself after becoming a mermaid." Emphasis on the last sentence, I might add. Heightened speech and pickpocket as a siren, fast water travel as a mermaid (the swimming speed is increased), which can make rivers and the such quite effective "highways" of sort in the game. Using the voice power to lure someone to their death also provides you a filled Black Soul Gem for enchanting purposes and, if you choose so, a human heart for alchemy. These are the boons that are compensating the gameplay difficulties caused by weather. And, well, the roleplay. Edited October 31, 2024 by Renora1976

Using Mermadic Tail and letting it expire properly turns me back into a Daedra Seducer. In fact it also removes the tail. But using Mermaid Transformation twice will strand me as mermaid race and will leave me with a tail, too.
Hakuna_Matata Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Another bug report: I used Mermaid Tail and then Siren Transformation and it auto-equipped the Shell Bra. Then my magicka ran out and I turned back but I'm still wearing the bra and can't unequip it.
Hakuna_Matata Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 This mod is still giving me headaches. I called mermaid transformation, then siren transformation, then I went into the Raven Rock Mine. It force-transformed me back to a tail. I tried casting siren transformation a few times, and it turned me back but then immediately turned me back into a tail mermaid. So I called mermaid transformation again and it seemed to work (mermaidstatus ends up as 0 and I have no tail) the it sets my race to Siren instead of the original race.

I'm a devotee of Jephre so when I pray rain stops. It starts raining. I pray. Rain stops. Your mod still thinks it's raining and forces the tail on me. I'm on dry land in the middle of nowhere. Where am I going to go to dry off? Turns out I can't. It takes me like half an hour to crawl into a cave. I'm not turning back. Why not? I wait a bit. Still not turning back. Why not? So I cast siren transformation again. It goes through some steps and then IMMEDIATELY tells me my legs grow together and I'm back with a tail when it's "done". What the actual fuck? How are you supposed to play this mod? I'm basically helpless in a dry cave with a tail now! There must be some thought behind this that I'm not getting. Why would you expect anyone to do this to themselves? There must be something I'm missing! You know there are some actual BDSM mods on this site. None of them just puts you in chains without a chance to escape. The cave has some bandits in it btw, so I can't even use the wait function from the game. I have zero experience coding Papyrus but two things stand out even to me: 1. very confused indentation. You basically can't comprehend the script structure without fixing indentation first. 2. much copy and paste with subtle discrepancies. You basically had the same block four times for all the race combos. I only touched two scripts: CleanmermaidautotailscriptA which gets run when you are a siren and hop into the water, and it is supposed to transform you into the race version with the tail). The vampire handling in this script was basically broken, it works for me now. If you were a vampire when hopping into the water, you end up as a vampire mermaid now. This script did not handle the case where you were a temporary mermaid converted to siren, so my version doesn't either. Would be a trivial fix though. The other script I touched is MermaidResarchSirenMetamorphosisA which gets run when you cast Siren Transformation. It left me with a tail all the time and also set the non-vampire race. Hakuna_Matata Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 The scripts use the equivalent of modav on Alteration. As far as I know that's a very bad idea, because you can't really undo it. So when it's time to undo it, you set Alteration to the base AV of Alteration, which will not just undo YOUR modav earlier but also everything other mods may have done in the mean time. The proper way to do it is to add a spell or perk that does the change and then you can remove it when you are done.
Hakuna_Matata Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 One thing that is still broken and that my scripts don't fix is the expert spell that is supposed to turn you back to the race you had before. In my current game I play as high elf, turned into a mermaid, became a siren and contracted vampirism there. I had fixed the Sacrosanct formlists so that that worked. Now I'm a MermaidLegsRaceVampire. If I transform back, I should become a HighElfRaceVampire. However to get this working, you'd have to either parse the Sacrosanct formid lists, or you'd have to convert the race to the editor ID, then to string manipulation on it, then turn it back into a race. The string stuff papyrus can do, but the conversion needs external SKSE plugins, not even stock SKSE has that functionaliy. Very sad, really.

I downloaded an overhaul of the mages college, including the Arcanaeum, now the book you're supposed to find is 1400 feet under the ground. Must have gotten pushed through the floor. Anyway, I AddItemMenu-ed the book to my inventory, but the quest didn't progress. Gotta set stage ahead.

But other directional keys can crawl on the ground normally

I do agree that the coding style is sub-optimal to say the least as I never learned coding in a formal setting and most of the scripts are the result of experimenting with the mod itself during gameplay until it works well enough that I can play the game without too much in terms of issues. However, I do agree that all scripts should be redone at some point and I will likely try to do so when I have some vacation. Also, I will probably have to learn how to use the Creation Kit too - I am currently doing 99 % of the work with SSEEdit and Notepad++ and I have no idea how to compile all these scripts in a single easily downloaded mod. Any experienced modder or coder is welcome to run away in tears of rage now - and Boeing is welcome to hire me as an improvement on their own coders. On a mod design level, I have restarted tinkering with things, in particular with the idea of the lighthouse quest "Lights Out!", to which I associated in my internal build a more proper curse that turns the character in a full mermaid after extinguishing the lighthouse but with a punishing transformation trigger: siren->mermaid at the first drop of water, mermaid->siren automatically when full dry and no form switch minor power, with the intent of eventually setting up a way to remove the curse and become a regular full mermaid. One thing I would like to do is to find a way to add "leggings" to the character at various stages of wetness to have scales take over feet and legs over time, although this probably be quite complicated. I will take a look at your scripts and see if they match with some of the fixes I did in the recent weeks on my internal build.

Depths of Skyrim --> Better underwater environment Underwater Treasures SSE SoG - Rivers and Lakes --> A lot of treasures and places to explore underwater. More Underwater Treasures - AIO --> A lot of treasures and places to explore underwater. Animated Ships --> More activity at sea, plus you get to use your mermaid voice on actual sailors. As for quests, there are two that is a must-have for a mermaid character: Sirenroot (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/70917), a very good quest mod in itself that goes to a whole new level if you are playing a siren/mermaid. Thematically appropriate and a water-heavy dungeon with strong vertical gameplay. Call of the deep (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/154194?tab=description), another water-heavy quest, less mermaid-styled and more Lovecraft, where the mermaid will feel at home.
