amona121 Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 This is most likely an unpopular opinion here, but I absolutely hate Survival Mode. And no, it isn't the hunger, or the fatigue, or the cold, or the necessity of a horse, my issue lies with the fast travel. It makes sense on paper: Force the player to roam around places on foot instead of fast travelling. But Skyrim's landscape isn't meant for on-foot travel, especially in "cities" like Falkreath, Winterhold, Dawnstar, and Morthal. Four out of the nine cities in Skyrim don't even have carriages, making it an absolute chore to travel anywhere from these locations. If they wanted to make Survival Mode right, I suggest putting carriage drivers in every single city. Maybe not out in the cold, harsh environments of Dawnstar or Winterhold, but they could've at least put them inside the inns. It also would've been a great opportunity to introduce a teleportation spell, similar to the Divine Intervention spell in Morrowind, to easily access each city. I know there are probably mods out there for that, but it makes no sense why they would remove them. 1
sofzx Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 you can just install the mod for disabling survival. Is on nexus. Is just a script, no esp. 1

If gamers want open and large world, this is a result. Go go go....if you make the player to be everywhere by a simple "way", the things quickly become boring-an important part of an adventure will be missing. And in SKYRIM, enemy is mostly a serious danger. Compared with other games, it is simply more difficult and more better (i don ´t use realistic here because it is not) made. The carriage driving is a plus- option and for those, which know skyrim already-for those who have been everywhere. A next step how you are building around your fantasy is to have a "kill all enemy" skill"-but then you can stop playing this game. Instead of survival-mode you probably meant "travel-cart-mode", fast travel.
belegost Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 Survival mode is a lazy, cash grab, poor-mans Frostfall rip-off made by some talentless hack, with half the features and shitty implementation. Ugh.. Frostfall despite its age is still the ultimate survival mod out there, hands down. And if you want more carriages and even boats, get CFTO. 1

Splendor Solis Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I definitely wouldn't do a no-fast travel run without mods that add alternative forms of transportation, like extra carriages, teleportation scrolls, etc. Teleporting to one hub and doing stuff in that area before leaving is a lot more palatable than having to walk across two entire holds to do a fetch quest.

Never bothered with Special Edition, mostly because I HATE remakes with a fiery passion. And I hate micro-transactions too. Even though Special Edition is admittedly a rather mild case when it comes to it. On the other hand, I have played Fallout 4.....yes I know it also posses the aforementioned nickle and dime the customer to death crap. But again, mild in comparison to the Hellscape that is the modern industry. Unlike many of my peers, that like to dunk on FO4, I honestly think it is a good game! It could have been better, yes....but the Moon could also have also been made out of cheese. Yes, Roll-play wise it doesn't offer much, but you can always play the Veteran Soldier, someone demoralized and borderline driven insane by grief, yet someone who seems to end up doing good despite it all, I like him. Yet one thing, I can say that I HATE about this game without a shadow of a doubt is Survival mode! The reasons.....I quoted that stuff above for reason, yes everything amona121 says about this feature in Skyrim, goes for FO4. I agree 100% and thank Todd it is an optional thing. It is genuinely one of the worst features I've ever seen in a Bethesda game by far.......no I haven't played FO76 why do you ask?

You install a bunch of mods, ideally all at once. Realize it doesn't work, and then complain to the mod author about how their mod(s) broke your game. 1

Who else would you complain to? After all, you can't blame yourself for anything. Not your fault it requires reading. Nobody has time to read. Reading is so XX century.
