afro-herbalist Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've had Skyrim for about 3-4 days now, but I still haven't figured out why I cant take screenshots, or why the "Data Files" button in the launcher is greyed out/disabled. I just downloaded "no more blocky faces", but how am I supposed to activate it without going into the data-file screen!? The only solution I found, does nothing for me. For the screenshots, I've been looking ALL over the net, but cant find anything that works. These are the things I've tried:- -Turned off AA (both in software & hardware) -Added the line "enablescreenshot=1" to SkyrimPrefs.ini -Added the line "enablescreenshot=1" Skyrim.INI -Turned off 360 controller in settings -Tried both "Print Screen" & F12 None of the above attempts have done anything at all. It seems like any changes I make to the ini's are being ignored by the game. Apparently you have to enable a line in the INI to enable "data files". Well, I did that, but its still disabled. The only thing that happened after all of this, is a folder appeared in my Skyrim root, called "TestCameraPath001". It was empty. Pretty frustrated now, since nobody else seems to be getting either of these problems, and I need to take some pictures FFS!!!
ronttu Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Print screen takes screenshots, and for me data files works, although those texture / normal map replacements don't have any esp to go with them, so you just drop them in data and are good to go. This is with vanilla steam install, so I'm not sure why yours wouldn't work at all. For the steam version, any change in the .ini files will be "fixed" by the steam launcher, so you need to run the TESV.exe manually if you want them to stick.
wunderbar Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've always just used Fraps for most of my screenshots. it has it's own conveniant folder, and you can take videos, view your FPS, etc, as well. As for Skyrim itself, not sure, since I've honestly not really played with the game's own screen capture system. You CAN do Print Screen, but hitting print screen, alt-tabbing, pasting and saving for each one is sort of a pain.
HanPL Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Do you have legal version ? Becasue from what I know DATA FILES is not working in Pirate version.
afro-herbalist Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Do you have legal version ? Becasue from what I know DATA FILES is not working in Pirate version. Ahhh, looks like I'm going to have to try and find some money... I'll have to wait till I can get it for about £15 2nd hand LOL since Im unemployed again! But if I buy it, that means I have to use steam right, and I cant stand that program, especially how they force themselves on you, its like conditional software-rape IMO, its not forced, but if you dont do as they say, then your not getting the game, that sucks. "Install me, even though Im not necesarry, or I'll install myself in your ass, and you STILL wont get the game, hahahaaa" -Steam Is there any way to run the legit game without steam? Edit: Okay, I've just read on another forum, that you HAVE to use fraps. I just hope it doesn't make the game lag to hell!
Evilokami Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Ill help you out with the data files man. Im not aganist the pirated version (I bought the console verson cause I was not 100% sure my PC could play but it can. and have the pirated one on my PC cause im not gunna buy the game 2 times) in your skyrimpref.ini in documents/mygames/skyrim look for the launcher line and add this. You should now be able to access the data folder. [Launcher] bEnableFileSelection=1 bShowAllResolutions=1 uLastAspectRatio=3 bLoadLooseFiles=1 as for screen shots. If you press print screen you have to than paste it in paint. and there you have it.

I've added all of that to my INI file and saved it, but the button is still greyed out... I was thinking of buying the PS3 version for the same reason as you

But the data tab wont be that important when a manager comes out so I would not sweat it much.
polluxval Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 it worked for me too. maybe u added in the skyrim.ini file, its has to be on skyrimprefs.ini

I was thinking of buying the PS3 version for the same reason as you [/quote'] is your system vista, and is it and HP system.. I ask this because One of my laptops is a vista, and it has problems with some keys, from beth games. My windows 7, and XP systems have no problems at all..just vista. I bought the game, and own it, but I have no DMR, because I hate steam. and the game runs better with out it. loads faster, and use's memory better. But eventually I will probably have to register it, I just plan to avoid it as long as I can. I do not Like piracy. I buy my games, I just side track most protection when I can. I have 2 copies of this game now, I believe they deserve our support. Even Witcher 2 is now going to Console's because in large part the Piracy. I hate console games ( it was a CP only game ).. I want RPG games I can mod to my liking, and Elder scrolls, witcher, and Dragonage are the best for that. I would hate to lose them to the console. anyway I doubt your image taking has anything to do with it being a Pirated copy, I figure you got a poor Image, or someone did not crack it properly. if the problem is not vista or Laptop oriented.
Jerbsinator Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 If you pirated Skyrim then just pirate FRAPS, much MUCH better than the piece of crap screenshot system in Bethesda games, and it takes video as well.
Zanir Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Buy the game instead of using pirate, make sure you have steam community in-game enabled (Steam -> Settings -> In-Game), use steam screenshot button (default F12). Unfortunately can't help you with the data files issue. Really, there's nothing wrong with steam or its in-game community feature. - Ex-Steam hater
