Have you ever...

So after I had one of the most bizarre things happen to me; I thought I had to make this topic. I'll start:

Have you ever been 'ghosted' by a drive through?

So I went to this drive through that I go to all the time, and I mean all the time. I can't cook, and one has to eat, so I'm there almost every day, sometimes twice a day.

And the other day I go there, pull up to the box, order my food, pull around, pay; And they tell me that they are waiting on fries, so ask if I could pull around to the front parking, so I do.

After about 45 minutes, someone else was told to pull around as well, and they got their food.

The guy that brought it asked me: "Are you waiting on something?"

I was like: "Yeah, I had the number 5. You guys told me that you where waiting on fries. Told me to pull around."

It's like they completely forgot about me. But yeah about 1 minute later, I got my order, and they even attempted to refund my money. I didn't take the money, but I just didn't think that's what happened.

Huh. Story of my existence. 'Out of sight, may as well not even exist'.

So, any one else got one of those bizarre things that almost never happens, happen?

Yep, I've had that happen before. I never use drive throughs anymore.

Besides to quote Joe Pesci.

Well it's not exactly the same thing as Leo was talking about, because I was just told to pull around and wait for a few minutes. But yeah, I don't into any store anymore, and it's not like I have many other options to get food. The delivery services have outrageous fees attached. And it's really the only time I leave my apartment. Also that is the last place that I have to get food, because every other place I have place on my blacklist for the reason that Leo was talking about. Hence why I am intentionally not naming names of what place it was.

I've never been "ghosted" by a drive through, no, though I have worried about that happening before. I did have Five Guys make a burger wrong three different ways, and so I ended up with three burgers, two of which were free because of that screw up, so that was nice.

I guess it must be that they are simply more incompetent where you live. $15/hour to forget the customer's food? Really?... (I'm just kidding)

I remember working in a kitchen when I was younger, in fact I even worked at a McDonald's kitchen once, and a few others. Let's just say that the movie "Waiting" is actually a fairly accurate representation of the kinds of things that I saw and experienced. NEVER fuck with the people that handle your food.

So you've been forgotten by a busy drive-thru-worker and this has never happened before - to you, one that basically 'lives' there?

And you associate this with ghosting?
Or with 'the most bizarre thing'?

No offense, but stop thinking like that.

You will become paranoid if you continue down that path ^^

I'm usually not one to share stories around the campfire, but after that, i feel like i have to share something... Bizarre.
Just one of the many, many strange things i've seen in my time.

Some years ago, i was invited to a friends birthday-party.
Back then i was living more country-side'ish.

We decided to go for a night-hike with flashlights and all.

Was summer, warm and overall a bright night, tho not a full moon, close to i guess?

about 5 Minutes from his house the village 'ended' and there were a few roads leading into the close forest and to some horse-paddocks in front of it.
We decided to go deeper into the forest - there was some kind of loop, further in, leading back to another part of the village - a usual short-hike route.

...

At about this time i noticed someone trailing us.

i wasn't sure at first, was kind of scared, too, so it took me a while shooting glances to make sure.

A man, average height and a little girl - propably 8-10 years old.

couldn't make out any details on how they looked, but the clothes.

The girl was holding the mans hand, like a daughter would.

I was.. Confused, never seen the man but at that time i figured them to be some kind of relatives of my friend and the girl wanted to go with us but dad had to accompany her for keeping her safe or something similar.

After a while i stopped glancing back over my shoulder and a short time later we were at that 'loop' at the hiking trail.

Expected them to be there after i turned around but they were nowhere to be seen.

Figured they turned around, girl got scared or something like that.

A few minutes later and we were about to leave the forest.

When we passed the paddocks and entered again into the village i turned around to take a look if someone fell behind.

After a short moment i realized there were two people standing right at the forest line.

The man and the little girl.

I couldn't make out any details from afar and without any light on them, but still enough to know it was them.

I turned around to ask who they are, not sure why i didn't ask earlier, just didn't -

But when my friends and the other kids turned around and looked up to where i was pointing - they were gone.

Someone laughed and said that i was trying to get them scared. Others joined in on that and we went back home.

That's it.

There are no stories of ghosts in that area.
Nobody that i know of has ever seen them again. Or before, for that matter.

I knew most/all the people living in that village back then, small villages are/were like that -

And there were no Dads with daughters, or anything similar, that would have fit those two.

Yeah, always be friends with the ones making or bringing you your food.

Well damn that sucks. I'm sort of the opposite of you in a way, I don't really get fast food anymore because it's gotten too expensive for me to justify; so typically I just fix cheap simple foods, or order a cheap pizza and go get it carryout.

Yeah I never screw with the ones making the food, figure they are just working a minimum wage job, and they have enough fun dealing with other customers. (Not implying that anyone in this thread does that.)

Probably someone from out of town, though it is odd that they reappeared after the fact. It's likely just as you said, the guy's daughter was curious and wanted to investigate and had her dad accompany her. Or maybe the guy was a creep and the little girl was a victim of his, and he was just waiting for everyone to leave before doing something awful. I guess you could try looking up crimes that may have occurred in that area next, though I think the crime angle is far from correct.

1: They weren't that busy. There was maybe 5 people that went into the drive through after me. And not once did I see anyone go inside while waiting in that 45 minutes.

2: Yes I do.

3: Again yes.

And the last thing: Too late. I'm already paranoid to the full extent of being such. In fact I have long believed that my entire existence is some form of punishment for something I may have done in a past life.

Well let's just say; It sucks to be broke, alone, and have no talent for cooking. I mean the only thing I can make is fried eggs, and sandwiches. But one can not survive on cold-cuts and over easy eggs alone.

Also that's why I refused to take the money back. Because I knew it would come from someone's pay. So I'd rather not start 'burning bridges'.

Far as easy to fix, fairly cheap food goes, I've found an easy one.

One box of the Ragu cheddar cheese sauce, 2 lbs (.9 kg) ground beef, one box of pasta, and one package of taco seasoning.

Brown beef with the taco seasoning, boil pasta, mix cheese sauce into browned ground beef, mix pasta into cheese and beef mix. You can add some shredded cheddar on top if you want. Depending on how much you eat at a time, you can get 3-4 meals out of it, and it reheats good.

Yeah... Way too complex for me to do. Especially the 'browning of the ground beef'. For me, that would be: Try not to start a fire while the beef blackens to a 'burned' state. Like I said, I can't cook.

Hnnnn.
Take toast, butter it, slice of ham, slice of cheese. Top with another toast, 10mn in the oven.
Take pan. Put olive oil/butter. Break eggs. add salt, pepper (cumin). Omelette. Add cheese ? Omelette du fromage
Take casserole. Put grated garlic and olive oil. Add cut tomatoes, pepper, salt, sugar. Cook slow until tomato melts, put lid if not liquid enough.
Peel potatoes, cut grossly. Add olive oil, garlic, salt. Agressively throw in oven.
Take bread. Drench with olive oil & garlic. Agressively throw in oven.

Everyone can cook man, and if you don't know something there's youtube vids for everything. Including browning ground beef...

They forgot a cheeseburger once. Later that night I looked at the window and I could see the drive thru staffs hiding in corners of my street, holding talkie walkies

Well sure. But it really depends on what you define as 'cooking'. I mean I can 'cook' things; But that doesn't necessarily make them edible. I mean I once burned SPAM. I literally burned SPAM. And I still don't even know how I was able to do that.

It happens, failure is normal, just practice until you get right. Eventually it's just gonna be way better than anything the drive thru has to offer, and cheaper too

As said before, there wasn't a family with a dad and a daughter like this back then for all i know.

There were girls in the village but either older or way younger.

Nobody comes to go for a hike to that area. secluded, boring af, nothing to see.

And i mean, even IF you would come to take a hike, you woudln't bring a little girl.. In the middle of the night.
You wouldn't come at night, like, at all. There are no lights, nothing. If you don't know the area, you could, in fact, easily get lost.

No crimes in that area, no kidnapping or somethin at all.

And, for all i can remember, both looked oddly.. Happy?
Like they were swinging their arms a little while holding hands, just like dad and daughter would.

And, of course, i've been asking around without saying too much - but nothing ever came from it.

... It just doesn't make any sense.

Maybe it was a relative that i just overlooked, maybe someone that moved there recently back then.. I dunno'.

Yeah, I agree with the YouTube part. There are also NUMEROUS recipes on the internet, shit, I've even found a recipe for Popeye's breading, so there is plenty of stuff out there.

I really think that being a decent or good "cook" (that is, someone who can cook things, not create new dishes from scratch) really relies on a person's ability to pay attention and follow directions, and sometimes at the same time. Also, the quality or source of the ingredients being used.

I mean, usually when you burn food it's either because you weren't paying attention, and you had the temperature set too high, or you weren't paying attention, and you let the food cook for too long, or a combination of both things; because you can cook at a higher than recommended temperature you just have to babysit the food more, and know what to look for, when the food has cooked for long enough on a normal temperature.

Really, I think the issue is that OP is antisocial for whatever reason, which I guess I understand to some degree, I mean people can kind of suck sometimes, especially when you have poor social skills to begin with, or have a strange or unattractive appearance/funny smell on top of that.

Well when I burned that Spam there was very little 'directions' on how high to set the heat. So I set it on low. And as soon as I put it in the pan, it was burned, or burning. And I was watching it constantly. But it was instant burnage, so there was really nothing I could have done to prevent it.

Is this a way of telling me that I shouldn't reply when spoken to? Or is it something else? Because I don't see what this has to do with anything.

But in all honesty; No. I'm not 'antisocial'. I am though a 'Misanthrope'. And I really do despise the bad choices people make.

To answer your first question: No. I'm just extremely patient.

As for the second question: Apparently I did.

And the third: Not really. As I didn't even realize it had been 45 minutes, until I started my car again. As the clock turns off when I shut the engine off. And I wasn't about to sit there wasting fuel.

Well the reason I go to the place I go; Is because they can do their jobs. As I said before, I have every other place around here blacklisted. And this is the last place I can go to, to get food.

I even had a talk a few months back with the assistant-manager of the place about that, while waiting at the window; And he was saying; "Yeah, that's what I was telling my manager as well. 'We can't have people here that can't can't do the job.' " He said that after I told him my opinion of: If you are unable to do what is required of a job, you should not have said job.

Julia Child is a pathway to cuisines some would consider... delectable.

More seriously, it's not that hard. You start with the basics like pasta and eggs. Then you find simple recipes and start making those. Over time you'll screw up and see if you can salvage it on your own or you'll intentionally tinker with the recipe. Once you develop the intuition for cooking, you can do it in your sleep.

Well after 40 years of burning anything more than over easy eggs; I think I'm a lost cause.

I really don't know why every one got so hung up on the fact that I can't cook though. Is it really that strange?
