K34 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Ill start this off with my personal favorite, Keaira from Age of Conan. This sexy assassin would be a perfect follower mod for anyone with the modding and modeling skills. The eyes and ears of king Conan, she has no reservations about using her womanly assets to seduce info out of targetsOne without the war paint
MikeMetal Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Off: I'd like for Nexus to stop showing all those custom lifeless followers that only serve an eyecandy purpose and steal the spotlight on the first page, in special retextures like Serana as selena gomez (...) which currently is on top there. Not worth the spot for a few spent hours requiring basics of CK. OT: Probably anyone providing it has decent voice acting and quests for storyline. Even better if the NPC isn't RL or fictional related . But if I were to chose, I'd like Catwoman. I'm a sucker for those rare "chaotic neutral" chicks.

I think the Serana mod is a rather bad example because she's one of the very few NPCs that are interesting but generally speaking you're right. There are too many mods with girls that may look good but use the standart vanilla follower ai, voice and dialogue and are completely bland and uninteresting.

Give a follower a custom voice, a follower package like Serana and make sure to set her AI to have a higher hertz rate(the amount of times an NPC "thinks" in a given time) (she does things on her own while you're doing stuff), a quest line to help her along or save her. Maybe a few tiers of relationships (from stranger all the way to lover and vice-versa if you want to treat her like a pack rat). And maybe a few sayings when you strip her naked like, the hell are you doing taking off my clothes? or when your char is naked.
Kayin Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 To be fair, making two companion characters that are completely original, fit perfectly in the game lore and actually expand it, have professional custom voice acting, has interesting quest lines, unique custom textures, armors, etc...has been a very daunting task. The ironic thing is that my #1 request for either character is that people can marry them. And here I thought I was trying to make an interesting, unique companion rather then a virtual trophy wife who has the same, dull personality of every other marriageable NPC in this game. People want more of that? Sigh.
Thasic Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Gotta agree with the prevailing thought here, Way to many gorgeous follower mods that amount to prety pack mules. I would much rather have a follower that was a bit plainer but a bit livlier.
Madmartigan34 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Well if society has taught us anything, its that only Beautiful People are worth having around and they're always the Heroes while Ugly people are always the bad guys. But, uh, yeah... Companions? I never use them, they're always on the back of my mind and always annoying me. I guess I just can't stand people always following me. I don't like it in reaity and I really hate it in Skyrim. I can't imagine all the work that goes into companion mods like Vilja and Cerwidwen. I use neither, because of the aforementioned issues I have with them. But i definitely admire the work that went into them.

None of them stand out to me, and I always feel it's my responsibility to protect their stupid asses from getting killed, which if I look away for a second, they invariably will. If I had to bring one with me though, it'd be that cutie pie khajiit girl caravan guard who teaches sneak. I don't even remember her name XD
Madmartigan34 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 The only companion I ever loved was the Dog in Fable 2. I'd give a nut to have that dog in Skyrim.

As close to Age of Cona's Keaira as I can currently get. I used to have her face tattoo, but the person who made it for me took it off the nexus and disappeared.
friki987 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I don't like having companions. They usualy get in my way or kill everybody before I can react. I just want a support.... So I'd love to have Sona Buvelle as a companion. I'd wish that she would't go attacking that Draug Death Overlord or Taking on the Legendary Dragons... But to stay as in LoL. Behind me. Using restoration spells to Heal when I'm on low health. Giving me Armor with alterarion spells, Restoring stammina and ocasionally using a couple of destrucion spells. I think that she'd be more based on the Dragon Priest behaviour. Just going backwards and using spells. If it could be, that she also levitates like she usually does, so she doesn't get killed by floor traps. That would be more than enought for me. That's one of my Dream Mods.

Basically the reason why I'm using only one companion, Cerwiden, because she actually does what she's supposed to do, heal and buff me. She's not nearly as fleshed out as for example Vilja when it comes to her personality but her combat AI is the best I've seen so far. She still has the annoying habit to go on a rampage by herself though but I'm pretty sure you can disable that.
Madmartigan34 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Every time I've used Ceri in the past, the game hasn't been able to handle her and it crashes a lot more when she's around. I admire a lot about Vilja, but I just don't like the qualiyt of the voice acting... the tech that the actress used, the mic is too noticeable for the amount of talking that Vilja does. (A shit load.)
Jexsam Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 The only characters I'd want as followers in Skyrim are my own. 99% of the shit on Nexus is just flat lifeless (but marriageable omglol) fuckdolls whose personality and story begin and end at the mod page, if it exists at all. The only other ones I can think of that don't fall into that category are Hoth and Vilja, and both, while very nice, border on overdesigned. Hoth being male sort of excludes him from the topic, though. Give me a pretty follower with a modest quest and fairly extensive dialog and I'll be content. VO optional, marriage optional but only after said quest is complete. Basically equal parts eye candy and character.

I know about Cerwiden and her great AI, but, IMO, I didn't feel anything special about her. Good AI, but, I don't feel her being the companion I seek. and well... she can give some CTD's at times. But, I don't have a clue about AI programming, Textures, Rendering, Meshes manipulation. So, I think that my perfect companion will remain in my dream-world. Because It needs both a nice personality and a lot of eye-candy.
Madmartigan34 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I think the thing I liked about Companions the most is when they'd randomly say something relevant to where I am or what I'm doing. It was sometimes nice to hear someone's voice while adventuring, because when Solo...... the game is pretty much devoid of dialogue except generic bandit drivel.

It was sometimes nice to hear someone's voice while adventuring, because when Solo...... the game is pretty much devoid of dialogue except generic bandit drivel. That is perhaps the main reason I loved Dragon's Dogma. Despite that they almost never shut up, the constant prattle of the Pawns you hire and your own pawn kept me entertained as I travelled from location to location (no easy fast travel and the map is kinda big.) As for a female character I'd like as a companion in Skyrim? I bet she'd have werewolf animations.
quin666 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Quistis Trepe, my first Playstation instructor. Really like her appearance and personality. Love go around Skyrim being taught how use weapons and magic while listening to her problems.
DeepBlueFrog Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I miss the chatter of Bioware NPCs... especially from the Baldur's Gate era. I am still waiting for someone to make a reasonnable Boo (complete with the attack sequence... 'go for the eye!!').

tekryder Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Ellie from the last of us would be great, especially if they can rip some of her voice dialog into it.
DeepBlueFrog Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Any custom character (and armor) based on Dorian Cleavenger's work would be just awesome

There are too many mods with girls that may look good but use the standart vanilla follower ai, voice and dialogue and are completely bland and uninteresting. that reminds me of the Willow follower from Fallout : New Vegas, even if the voice acting wasn't incredible it was alright. But now that I remember, most followers or at least Boone were interesting, the french voice actor for Boone was mesmerizing and the character itself was quite interesting imo. Shame you can't really find that in Skyrim, I found a mod for Aela the huntress with a whole new voice and dialogues but I didn't checked it for some time now.
Madmartigan34 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Yeah, but New Vegas was made by a different studio. A studio that tends to try to put more story depth into their games than Bethesda's crew does. I really do wish Skyrim had some story-deep companions though... sure would make them a lot more fun to have around.
AgentChicken Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Lydia is enough for me to be honest, i find her really adorable. But if i was to pick a Female character other than Lydia, it would either be Rose of Sharon Cassidy from fallout New Vegas ( i absolutely love Cassidy <3) and A Little Sister from Bioshock
