mclericp Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Thought it is the least i can do to spread the word. The modder deserves every respect he can get. The modder himself created what i call an expansion that destroys the dragonborn dlc completely. And he is releasing it tomorrow on the nexus. Dont expect this mod to be some 'minorish scale'. expect a completely new game(like nehrim but not that much changes). And yes, no vanilla voices included! All are built from scratch by professional voice actors. the forum link of the latest discussion on the bethsoft: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465824-wip-falskaar-thread-7-launching-july-12th/ If you play skyrim, you must get this mod. Seriously you will not be disappointed.
Rayblue Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 destroys the dragonborn dlc completely. What? Anyway, this looks to be a huge, perhaps bigger than the severely-limited and bugged Moonpaths to Elseweyr (which was the last custom expansion pack I played but ended rather inconclusively).
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 It's been released on Nexus I'm DL it now but as usual Nexus DLs are slow as shit and drops off randomly.
Uno Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I heard good things about this one, I just downloaded the package and looks very very promising.
diegoforfun Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Looks amazing for what i've seen! I'll download it for sure to give it a try!
mclericp Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 Falskaar IS RELEASED. Cmon support alex! I might need to quit my post as windhelm guard and become falskaar guard. Play it! You know you will. And at the end of the day u will be thanking me for spending $60 on skyrim
sagebeat Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I'm going to download it and give it a try, but is anyone else sick of the viral marketing campaign that's been created to advertise this mod?EVERYWHERE? The obviously placed support comments and messages from people just trying to make the mod famous? What happened to simply letting the community decide for itself if a mod should be praised? Why are we being subconsciously pushed to validate their efforts? It makes me hesitant to try, or praise it, to say the least. Am I alone in this way of thinking?
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I really couldn't careless about the "Advertising" of the mod all I care about is that it is well made and entertaining.
Uno Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Define EVERYWHERE...your mail inbox, google ads, T.V, facebook? lol. Falskaar advertising is not that agressive, I see nothing wrong if users/friends wanna spread the word about it.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I always get a good chuckle out of anything that claims to have "professional voice acting" when it comes to mods. Mainly because it's hardcore amateur hour from people who want to get parts in fan dubs of anime. I'll give the thing a shot, but if it's aiming for DLC quality, then I don't hold much hope due to the fact that Skyrim's DLCs aren't very good to begin with.

You know zora fairchild? From interesting npcs? yeah. The voice acting in falskaar is superb, far better than most mods out there.

It makes me hesitant to try, or praise it, to say the least. Am I alone in this way of thinking? because this person deserved to be known. Do you know how much work he put in? He created all scripts, land etc by himself. Only hired voice actors, songmakers and QA testers. For one person to handle such massive work in 1-2 years, great perseverance. Let me ask you a question. If you spent so much time and effort creating one of the best things in the world, you should be deserved to get more fame(or at least achknowledged). It goes for all topics, not only just modding. The only exception is bieber.
mkprovince Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Got this, installed and now tweaking settings for a new game play. Need another thirty minutes until I'm satisfied.
ambria Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I'll give this a go once I'm done with dragonborn. I'm really surprised and excited to see a mod of this size released. After the news of there being no more official DLC to come, it's nice to know that there will still be huge amounts of good quality content from the modding community and gives hope for the games longevity. Long live skyrim~

Stop expecting me to know who and what things are. I've played around with it a bit, and it suffers from the same thing Skyrim does; too much open space and not enough going on. At this point I'm exploring and it's all unused space with some trees, a few stumps and if I'm lucky some water broken up by wolf, bear and spider attacks. I got part of a new shout, and it sounds like Dragon Aspect from the description, which I never use anyway. But I guess I'll keep going, 'cause you can't really judge these larger mods by just spending an hour or two with them. But so far not very impressed, nor would I call this DLC quality (except for lack of bugs, in which it is much better because I haven't hit one yet).
A Bunny Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Yeah, this mod isn't really DLC quality. It doesn't introduce anything new, the quests (or, two quests I've encountered) are incredibly generic, and all the assets are -direct- copy-pastes from other dungeons. Even the buildings are re-used. It's pretty shabby.

A Bunny Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I won't argue there, but there's a small (though significant) difference between just re-using an asset, and re-using an asset creatively.
Koko.Hekmatyar Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 could be worse look at Dragon Age 2 that was stretching the limits of reused assets.
A Bunny Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Oh jeez, don't remind me. It had an okay ending though.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 So I've spent a good... oh, 10 hours with this mod. And in all honesty, I can say this; This would fit very well into vanilla Skyrim. But this is in no way DLC quality, and there's no way in Hell I would ever compare it to something I would have to pay actual money for. The voices get grating after a short while, the quests so far aren't exactly very interesting, the new NPCs are as cardboard as any vanilla one and the land is even more empty than Skyrim ever was on its worst day. The new music seriously does not fit with Skyrim, and it's still jarring when one of the new pieces kicks in. That said, the land area is pretty big, so I still hope to find a reason to explore (you know, other than the wanderlust that wells up from within myself) and the dungeons aren't bad. I've stumbled across one pain in the ass bug that required the use of the console, but otherwise it's still got the DLCs beaten when it comes to not being a buggy mess.
foreveraloneguy Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Yeah, the good: Definitely a lot of work put into this. The bad: A lot of that work was wasted. Pretty much the rest of what I could say has already been said... wooden characters I don't care about, "quests" that are mostly run here, talk to this person, run back, talk to the first person again, run somewhere else, repeat ad naseum. At least the voice acting is better than the other voice acted mods I've tried. I will give props for creating a new world space. It gives other modders some new NPCs and and an area to play in. But the not being able to just fast travel back to skyrim thing is kind of shitty. And given that it's supposed to be a whole new land, something to set it apart from "just more skyrim" would've been a real triumph. But they didn't do that, so it's just more Skyrim.
Shugotenshi Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 This guy really did amazing job imho, same goes to all other ppl who were involved. Like he said himself "Falsksar isnt perfect". The thing i know is that he really wants a job and Bethesda is aware hes out there.
