(Solved) Jumping Horses (and other movable objects) on Windows 11

Hi,
started Skryrim (oldrim, without any of the DLC) for the first time on Windows 11 (upgraded from 10, on witch it worked flawless) and had texture glitches on the water, was stuck on some places, and every animal jumes around. So probably something collision related with the ground. Also had very different moving speeds, when standing and moving vertical vs horizontal.
After a fresh reinstall, without mods etc, this is still persistant, but due to the glorious intro, only the jumping Horses are reproducable, since the carriage gets stuck, witch softlocks the game.

The copatibility mode (Windows 7) changes it, but it still softlocks the intro due to the horse dying.
Giving it administrational powers prevents the game from starting at all.
Any ideas for more troubleshooting?

dxdiag is fine.
Hardware is identical, so should be Software-related.

My Windows 10 says I should not grab windows 11 ?

(okay, it says my PC isn't up to the task)

I have no clue what's going on there, but I would check:

  • Graphic driver updated for Windows 11. Is there even a new driver version for Windows 11.
  • FPS limited to 60 in Graphic card settings
  • vsync activated in Graphic card settings
  • DirectX correct version for Skyrim LE
  • run BethINI to configure Skyrim.ini/Skyrimpref.ini
  • ⚠️Avoid installing Steam and Skyrim in "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)" folders since Windows User Account Control [UAC] can prevent writing files by 3rd party programs.

If Skyrim is modded:

  • use an alternate start to circumvent the vanilla Skyrim intro
  • check if the Stability fixes settings or/and ENB/ENBoost settings are correct

I don't have stability fix and don't use enb, and yes used alternate start (legacy) before whiping everything, witch just allowed me to experience more bugs.
There is no graphics card driver for Windows 11, this card (R9 290X) is eol for close to a year.
FPS isn't limited and V-Sync isn't able to be changed via Radeon Software.
UAC doesn't make problems, besides trying to run it as an admin.
Installed DX10 from the files and it didn't change anything.

Installing Bethini made it a bit better, but it still destroys itself when looking down (witch was also before), as opposed to the horizon. So no fix.

Reverting to no compatibility mode makes it worse, but a bit better, than before.

Yeah, I have the TPM 2.0 etc and converted my install to UEFI to make it work....

Edit:
So now got through to after the intro. The water is still bugged and almost got stuck before the movable bridge in the cave

FPS isn't limited

Then limit it to 60fps for testing!

what? more bugs without LAL?

There are other alternative starts out there too. Just make sure you don't grab one that needs all DLCs.

so it's on by default?

If that doesn't sound like an issue I don't know ?‍♂️

okay, the jumping objects was apparently the physics engine running to fast.
Funny that on Windows 10 it worked^^

no, just the ability to get to freeroam^^

Yeah, but they are kinda rare.
Therefore the legacy version.

I don't know, there is no option for that and with that of a light load, I can't say if it is on or not.
But something describing that, what Vsync kinda does, is off.

It is not required and not even on installation. But defenitely would have been a next step, but reinstalling like 400 GB of Games isn't quickly done, with horrible Internet (1 MB/s effective download)

what? ?

Just some security stuff, that is a big change for how the BIOS handles stuff etc.

Edit:

It fixed all the recorded problems, so thanks for the idea :)

Edit 2:
The movement issue still persits kinda, but is a bit rarer

I wonder how Radeon users solve that. Would be interesting for future issues.

err, okay, got ya! Wait, do I even have more with steam ?

I think a complete new download isn't needed, but would need to search online how it's done.

AH! Yes Skyrim is famous for it's BIOS connection, especially during the vanilla intro ?

Cool!

How did you solve the vsync issue?

I think it is just another name for Vsync, since it is on a driver level and marketing.

yes, you have to move the folders, then uninstall steam/the games and then steam.
After that you reinstall steam and install them in the directory above where you put them. Steam recognizes it and kinda just checks the data.

no, thats for Windows 11 changes in comparison to 10

The Vsync issue?
Looked more like an issue regarding the state of witch the player/surrounding is in.

Also now just the movement thing in some spaces, witch is at least better.
May try with a lower cap againk, but have other stuff to do.

Just use alternate start.

I have never been able to do the original intro, for that reason. The cart flipping and spinning out of control.

limiting the fps to 60 helped with that on my end. Maybe it can help you too?

I think mine is already. But that issue with the flipping cart, I don't care about it cause if I make a new character I wouldn't want to wait for that sequence anyway so I just skip the intro altogether.

As RohZima said: skip the intro with an alternative start mod.

The Intro will always glitch out as soon as you add multiple mods and will prevent Mods to load properly, especially because you need at least one load/save cycle to make mod to update themself and detect other mods after first initialization.

I killed the intro in so many ways:

  • SOS will conflict with the carriage physics
  • added hostile mods spawned wolfs near the carriage and attacked everyone
  • the helgen keep door kept closed
  • ZAP furniture replaced the vanilla furniture and made the intro get stuck
  • multiple ways the PC fell thru the carriage and got stuck below it
  • all npc got stuck on the carriage
  • the horse thief never ran away
  • lots of variations of a stuck intro scene

I didn't know that one, yet ?

Though I could add some more bullet points to you list :classic_angel:

those intense SOS physics just like to collide with everything.

HOW LEWD!

Touring Carriages suffers too, but I saw a patch somewhere on Nexus.

Now, SL scenes never broke the intro, because they would need a reload lol

AMD has something called FreeSynch  'Variable-refresh-rate technology'. I have mine set to 'AMD optimised', the other two options are on and off.

Is that the same as Vsync, just automatically?

That means Vsync is a term only related to NVIDIA?

They must hate users like me ?

Yes but you need a monitor which is compatible.

AMD Radeon also has:

Radeon Enhanced Sync - 'An alternative vsync mode that minimises tearing and lag but doesn't fix limit rates'.

Disabled/Enabled.

and

Wait for Vertical Refresh - 'Vertical refresh sync - or - vsync - synchronises the transition to a new frame animation with the display update so no seam (or 'tearing') is visible between frames. Caps the frame rate at the display's refresh rate.

Always on

Always off

On, unless application specifies

Off, unless application specifies

Great, now I have to keep this LL page forever open to not forget

Or do what I would do. Open a new text document on the desktop and paste the info into New Text Document (575).txt ?

ÖH!

That isn't as tedious as it sounds (now that I tidied up my desktop?) ?
