Merchant CTD

Recently i'm in a spree of stuff just breaking.
When i talk to Lucian Valerius in Riverwood to buy/sell, i get a CTD (the exact moment the inventory menus should pop up). This does not happen when trading with other merchant of the town (blacksmith, bartender).

Things i tried:
Using AddItemMenu mod to open the "inventories" of every mod listed (no CTD in any mod's item list)
Using Save Cleaner (didn't change anything)
Disabling some mods, i'll try disabling some more later

Any suggestions...?

Sounds like Lucian has an item with a dodgy mesh.

Presumably this item will be added by a mod so need to figure out which mod (maybe it has a patch or fix).

I would search for mods that effect Lucian: for example mods that add something to Lucians inventory and that no other merchant is selling.

More details you can find with Tes5edit, check who modifies Lucian.

Maybe you need a patch to combine lvl/loot lists (like a Bashed patch or similar).

Worst case is a glitched mod.

 

Other things that makes Lucian's life hard:

• Finish all quests you have open with Lucian, he can be a bid odd before you finish the first vanilla quest for him, because he has to wait in the shop until you're done and wants to close the shop badly to get drunk in the next tavern.
• He has a very stable idle behind his desk. He can't move freely, which causes him to fail to finish approaches triggerd by certain SL mods. IIRC that solves itself after bringing him the golden claw.
• Many mods drop custom spellbooks and the like into his inventory you can't buy anywhere else.

@Grey Cloud But if that is the case why didn't it crash when i was using AddItemMenu? I opened every mod's inventory and no CTDs happened

@donttouchmethereI get the same result even after giving him the claw, but I'll try your other suggestions, tho it will take some time cuz i've never looked into tes5edit nor bashed patches...

 

Also, in case it matters, i did trade with him before doing the golden claw dungeon (can't remember if i had already accepted the quest or not), and everything was fine. He even had some modded stuff (hentaycreature's spellboks).

 

Also, is it possible that he had in stock an item of a mod that i removed and now he will ctd untill he restocks? Il try waitng for a restock too, but i dont think i removed anything that adds items to shops

In xedit will all mods loaded you can look in skyrim.esm under container, the name of the container will have "merchant" in it along with something else associating to Riverwood, Riverwood Trader, or Lucian.

 

This will tell you what mods are touching his stores inventory.

If i understand what i'm seeing:

only HentaiCreatures should add stuff, which is weird cuz id creates no problem when visualizing its items in AddItemMenu, and even when disabling the mod the ctd still happens... so i guess it's not item related? But then why does it crash the moment when Lucian's merchant inventory should open?

Because if it is a vanilla item and the mod which alters it does not have an esp then it will not show in AIM.

Let me add, what Cloud is suggesting is it is not a new item being added to the merchant chest by the hentia mod but rather some of the vanilla content in his chest, like say an iron dagger, maybe in your LO you have a mod that changes "iron daggers"  If such mod is in your LO we wont see it in merchant chest when looking in xedit.

This time i used AddItemMenu to also check Skyrim items, and the game crashed on the food/potions category. Thanks to that i discovered that the problem was caused by the iNeed mod, i have no idea why, also because it has no patches or anything like that, but i reinstalled it and now no more CTD. So yes, the mod did brake some vanilla items.
Thanks to everyone for the tips, if something like this happens again i'll know what to look at!
