Ark of Truth Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Yes Steam does check MULTIPLAYER PROCESSES for VALVE GAMES but that's about it to make sure you are not cheating by injecting programs or coding into them. But in no way do they scan your entire computer that's just a bunch of crap. I have been using Steam for years. A Skyrim version without Steam is never going to be available and more and more companies are being to use Steam. I really don't know what all this crap is about. Come on they already give you the option to play offline what more do you want. Prove something before you start causing and spending stuff about it.
TalMaheRa Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I don't think that is so unreasonable to consider that may happen one day in at least one country. GTA San Andreas had its major stink because of the Hot Coffee issue Hot Coffee only became a "serious" issue after it was revealed that Rockstar/Take 2 had HIDDEN ADULT CONTENT on the discs from the get-go. Up until that point' date=' it was "kid modded his game, big deal." Even after the discovery, it took Tipper Gore AND Hilary Clinton (with added muckraking by Jack Thompson) to raise a big enough stink for anyone to care. And what did they accomplish? Rockstar removed the Hot Coffee code from all future printings of GTASA in order to stay Rated M, and more importantly, on the shelves. [sarcasm'] A great moral victory for lazy parents was won that day.[/sarcasm] ...just thought I'd point that out. OT I have no opinion for or against Steam itself. I use it when I want, but otherwise keep it offline and as inactive as I can keep it.
kuromahou Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Don't use steam except for actual valve games, there's usually a way around using it if you abuse google + forums. Skyrim without steam is pretty easy.
Ark of Truth Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 lol theres nothing wrong with Steam, only pirates have a problem with Steam
Symon Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Interestingly, I know a lot of IT professionals, who very definitely aren't pirates who have a problem with Steam. They have a problem with the entire Service model. As they aren't Pirates, it means they don't buy or play the game. We can now include those people who lost an undisclosed amount of account information when Steam was hacked and don't feel like taking a risk. I'd say they weren't pirates either.
thesapien Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 I know rzr's release was having some kind of voice problems. rzr also released a patch that fixes the issues Yeah, my rzr version seemed to work great. It worked so well that I was wondering why everyone else was complaining about Beth games being buggy. And the big 1.4 update was available same day. Funny, I never would had purchased the game had it not been for this "demo", since I was new to the series and not really expecting to like an open world game. But I quickly fell in love and bought it for sure when the CK came out. To others, btw, I'm a counter example to the claim that "pirates" hate Steam. I don't. Pirates have a motto: if you like it, remember to support the software developers. Steam is a user friendly and easy way of doing just that.
ljacquard Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I've never had an issue with Steam. I use my games offline most of the time, and they work flawlessly. I had billing issues with them *once*, and they were handled within the day. Politely might I add. I just wish games wouldn't automatically update themselves when I checked them as the opposite in the user options. Also, their overlay process probably shouldn't take as much room in my RAM as it does, but I guess it's price to pay with Windows, and nowadays RAM is cheap, and some browsers take twice as much just idling. So, Steam is fine in my book.
Trykz Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 My only issue with Steam is their policy on mods placed on their Workshop. Which basically gives them the right to do whatever they want with what you likely spent long, tireless hours creating. Screw that bullshit..... Hence, why I don't allow my stuff to be uploaded to their Workshop. Problem solved Trykz
qwerty123456 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 lol theres nothing wrong with Steam' date=' only pirates have a problem with Steam [/quote'] yeah, pirates have big problems with steam, so big, that they don't even care. No steam for downloading, no steam for starting and playing. no steam installed. Only thing i had problems with was the steam workshop mods(think it was only 2-3 mods i wanted to try, that i didn't found elsewere at first), but with some searching, i found external links to the steam mod files. some weeks ago i took the -30 or was it -50% weekend sale(found it ok for the price, despite the many bugs still in). Have both versions installed, still play more often the pirated version(as screwing up something is easier fixed with the pirated version, as the steam version for me).
Niobia Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The people that hate steam, hate it for what it *could* do. But hasn't done yet. It's a convenient of a service thats it. The last 10 PC games I've bought via retail that require steam would be lost forever (just like my copies of oblivion, fallout 3, gta 4, etc etc are lost because they're disc only.) But thanks to steam I can just redownload them without hassle. When you weigh that against the very unlikely possibility that they'll throw you in jail for installing a sex mod or whatever you're talking about, it seems rather silly. This is coming from a generally paranoid person.
pnakasone Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 They are a for profit company if nobody raised a stink about it they would be selling sex mods for games themselves. Until some one has the clout and money to actually bring them to court they will not care what we do. For multiplayer games some one can sue them for not keeping the game fair for all. That is why the care about cheating in multiplayer.
DELTA440 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 easy fix buy skyrim then dl crack exe so u can run it without steam
oblivious Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Jesus...Fucking...Christ...Unbelieveable and yet not the least bit surprising whatsoever. Google is pulling the same shit ...gathering intel regarding what we're looking at online. It is... such..... total....... bullshit!!
Epyon# Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Steam destroyed dungeonsiege 3. At least or PC. When I bought it and had installed it to a alt hard drive. But I got a virus, so i had to reinstall windows xp. I dent the auto run for DS3 from alt drive and ther game will not work. once you use a game key for it it can no longer be used. I hate that kind of bs. once you usea key you have to buy and spend the exact amount of money to buy a new prodiuct key. If I ever produced a game of ayintegrity I would place some kind of restraining order on steam or any corp like it from trying to buy and use the rights to it. I hate them so much. Is stam going to take over Skyrim?
Veta Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 You opened a 2 year long dead thread, lol, might as well post . Truth is i don't really want Steam to search my computer on it's own ( conspiracy theory and all ) but I highly doubt steam would go through the trouble of sharing a users data publicly or with the Gov since it would lose a lot of trust. I live in Europe but I doubt any government would sentence someone in prison for having virtual porn even if illegal be that loli or bestiality.
Incandescence Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Wow, thanks for the info... I also totally agree about your other annoyances. To get around the update feature I have a skyrim - copy folder which I update whenever I'm sure my skyrim is stable, so that anything I or steam does to it can be undone. It takes up an extra 20gb, but I think it's worth it...
CrimsonOmegaLance Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Steam is not a problem and will never be a problem.
Dude500X Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Read abit of the OP. Coming to the conclusion that OP is not quite all there.
