Ok i know that you can NOT distributed the Skyrim.esm. Obviously. But i just read on a nexus forum that modifying the .esm is also not allowed for own use? Is this true? So i can not add 1000 extra health for every race, by changing it in the original Skyrim.esm?? Do i really need to make an separate esp for it?

Yep.

Then why are there people that tell you to change something in the .esm with xEdit?

For example, if i made a topic about wanting more health for the npc's. Then someone will say i have to change it in the Skyrim.esm with xEdit for every race.

I dont understand. Why are they telling me this if it can get me in trouble?

You can edit the update and dlc .esm files. I don't recommend changing anything in 'em, aside from cleaning ITM records.

No worries. It has been the bane of my existence as a Skyrim modder as well. Finding a good (reputable) source is a find indeed.

I like a modified and condensed version of that:

"I learn from the mistakes of people who take my advice."  ?

Did you learn something from it?

Yeah. I don't give advice as freely and then only when I've tested it myself.
