Stuttering caused by SexoutCommonResources.esm

Recommended Posts

So I've recently done a complete reinstall of FNV and Sexout in order to make sure everything was up to date and I didn't have any unnecessary files. Everything was working perfectly fine and my game had been running great until yesterday.

My game suddenly began to stutter slightly, and the stuttering continued to worsen until my game basically became a slide show. Loading a save from before the stutter began completely fixes the issue for a while, until it seemingly randomly decides to regress again.

Disabling all things Sexout completely fixes the issue. I believe I’ve narrowed down the cause to SexoutCommonResources.esm. The stuttering on effected save files will disappear if only Sexout.esm is marked, but once CommonResources is checked as well the stutter will resurface.

I’ve tried installing the current Betas of Sexout.esm, SexoutCommonResources.esm, and SexoutPregnancyV3.esm (As of 2013/05/25 at 7PM (UTC-06:00)) and I also have all prerequisites and resources installed correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this and how I might go about fixing it?

(Just to reiterate – all mods are functioning, but the stuttering makes the game unplayable)

Thank you!

this fixed my stutter problem quick http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34832/

Thank you for the suggestion, but I already have StutterRemover installed. Probably should have mentioned that, sorry.

That being said, without SexoutCommonResources.esm activated I don't stutter at all, ever. So I don't think it's a general performance issue. I'm guessing it's a conflict with something else, but I can't figure out what. I've been messing with different combinations of esp/esm for a few hours and so far the only pattern I have found is "SexoutCommonResources.esm = stutter".

That being said, it's very unlikely that the mod itself has an issue because if it did I wouldn't be the only person getting the stuttering. So I'm at a bit of a loss. = /

If SCR is to blame, I'll know fairly soon. I've got it out behind the woodshed right now catching a beating.

Well, I hope you may find something, I'm outa ideas on where my screw up is. And I'm not experiencing any stuttering myself, but then maybe I'm not playing long enough.

I could narrow this down to the combination of Slavery, Tryout and mods that added tons of NPCs like populated wasteland and casino. Places like Freeside became a slideshow. Strangely my fps were constant, but "micro"stutter became "macro"stutter.

At one point I though SCR was to blame as well, but in the end its impact on my performance was not as dire as I thought. After all it includes a lot of scripts, that I don't have mods for, that run nonetheless.

I've ditched repopulated wasteland recently because of this. As nice as it is, populated areas like the fort or freeside became unbearable, even without tryouts. My machine may not be the newest, but theoretically it shouldn't have problems with 10 extra NPCs here and there.

As for the OP:

All this aside, you absolutely need a merged patch. Just by looking at your LO, I can see that you must run into a lot of problems. Maybe they aren't apparent at the beginning of the game, but you're going to notice them most likely somewhere down the line. Search for FNVEdit and merged patches for instructions. Also, you don't need st.esp, only its resources.

Yeah, I've been conversing with Prideslayer about that, and had been planning to break all the extra's out of SCR anyway, was just waiting for that magic stable moment to do it, so I'm going to do some trimming and slide some stuff from SCR into Pregnancy, then create a new Hardcore Plugin for Drugs & Diseases to reduce SCR bloating as step one then look at other stuff.

I have this kind of problem as well. On certain days in the game the game would go on regular agonizing stutters, and it only happens when I have SCR enabled (I used to think it was Pregnancy that's causing the problem but it turns out it's not). It's strange though because the first version of SCR I've tried did not exhibit any stuttering.

I do have one workaround for this, however --- just wait/sleep and wait for the current day to pass. It's strange why that fixes the problem (I don't know why) but if it fixes it temporarily, I don't really care.

I'm on the latest beta versions of SCR and Pregnancy right now and the stuttering still persists by the way.

Do you by any chance use Project Reality or the aforementioned population mods? I blamed my stutter on SCR too, until I deactivated PR. It runs some heavy scripts as it seems, that can massively reduce framerate. After getting rid of that, I don't have any stutter problems. SCR might have some more scripts than it ought to have, but it isn't as bad as I originally thought, in terms of performance.

I'm telling you this, because the waiting fixed some issues with PR too. Certain weathers allowed me 60 fps, whereas other scenarios would break my game down to 25-30 fps, no matter if I was indoors, outdoors, etc.

@Halstrom

I've been meaning to ask you about moving the preg stuff, like all the semen, over to pregnancy. But after reading my post mostly sounding like "I have to click error messages for a minute to start making my sex mod", I thought it sounded too much like a first world problem.

Well the Semen is also the Sex smells part for dealing with the creature factions, there are currently duplicated semen tokens because I haven't moved pregnancy over to use the new tokens yet. But I am moving what I can over and trimming it back as much as I can without causing breakages.

I've had the stuttering without project reality or repopulated wasteland installed. Given that a while ago it was narrowed down to Slavery and Tryouts, and I believe there was an SCR script that wasn't clearing out as it should too, I'd start looking there. I have no idea how or why it got reintroduced, as I was saying to pride, I thought we'd put this one to bed.

Hmm, you've just jogged my memory there, I wonder if it's in my SexoutSMainSlow that runs at 5sec intervals where I populate a formlist for current companions, and it looks like I'm adding them repeatedly as I assumed that was ok, or it could be the removal is the problem, I forget the details of that issue at the time as I didn't think it was a problem in SCR, the only change I did there recently was to add the IsSwimming, maybe that's loading it up over the edge so to speak.could try that disabled.

I was never sure if I needed that esp, good to know I can ditch it! Also, I made a merged patch like you suggested. Fixed a number of formlist conflicts so I'm sure that will help down the road. That being said, the stuttering has gone unchanged. I tried waiting three days in a closed cell but that didn't help either.

The most recent thing I tried was disabling everything except the Sexout mods, the stuttering was slightly better but it was still there.

Does it stutter everywhere or in some particular places? Enable all your other mods and try disabling (as in move the .esps out of the data folder) tryouts and slavery and see if it persists. This way we could determine wether it is SCR or Tryouts causing them.

Just out of curiosity, what are your specs? (processor, RAM, graphics card)

The stuttering first started during the "Ghost Town Gunfight" in Goodsprings. After I made a clean save the stuttering dissipated until my 3rd or 4th visit to Novac (probably 2-4 hours later for me?) when it randomly started again. I checked the console both times right as it started - the first time it started as BrutalRapers ran a rapecheck on all the Powder Gangers attacking Goodsprings, so I thought BrutalRapers was the problem but uninstalling that esp didn't help. The next times there wasn't anything of note in the console. Once the stuttering starts it doesn't stop until I make a clean save.

[EDIT: I guess I should note that I visited The Strip without any problems in between those instances, so I'm pretty confident it's not being caused by too many NPCs.]

All of my testing for the issue has been done in and around Novac as well as in the Hotel Room there.

I tried uninstalling tryout and slavery and the stutter was still there.

Well, that should be enough to play it with an acceptable framerate. :D

Couple of things you can do though, if you haven't already:

Use the 4GB launcher from here or here (Scroll down a bit, it's hidden in the FAQ)

Install the New Vegas Stutter Remover from here (change the max fps to 60, it caps it at 30 by default)

If ithere is still no improvement you could roll back to an earlier version of SCR and pregnancy. I'm currently using a SCR build from March, coupled with both NVSR and the 4gb launcher and it runs very smoothly with 100+ mods at 50+ fps. And my machine isn't nearly as powerful as yours.

What finally fixed my problem though was rolling back pregnancy and SCR. I took your advice and went back to the 03/25 versions of those mods and everything seems to be working now!

Well the Semen is also the Sex smells part for dealing with the creature factions, there are currently duplicated semen tokens because I haven't moved pregnancy over to use the new tokens yet. But I am moving what I can over and trimming it back as much as I can without causing breakages.

It doesn't have to be there, but having the cum tokens in SCR isn't a big problem -- the problem is the 'code' surrounding them. SCR should just be holding (unscripted) items and perhaps some spells. No scanners, always-running quest scrips, perks, recipies, worldspace or vanilla asset modifications, and so on. Having just sexout and scr active as your sexout mods should result in no difference from vanilla as far as the player is concerned, except the init/debug messages.

STDs, drugs, 'cum smell' based factions, and all of that should each be in their own mod so they can all be easily modified, disabled, or replaced without conflicts or breakage.

As Hal said, we've been discussing it, and shortly I will be releasing a mini-replacement for SCR (different name so as not to break other mods) as well as new versions of sexoutslavery, sewerslave, tryouts, and workinggirl that use it. Other mods will be free to switch to it or not.

Sign me up for that.

I was specifically referencing those tokens, because they don't have "biped slots", as you may have noticed while loading up SCR the last time with GeckPU. :D There seem to be quite a lot of them. I certainly agree that all the bells and whistles would deserve their own plugins.

Link to comment

If this means I'm gonna have to disable or work around the torn clothing swapping in sofo again until the optional plugin is up & running, I'll tear my hair out. :P

Also, SCR lite is probably gonna need the same name as SCR, so that items added to its formlists suddenly aren't in there anymore (thinking of clothing eval, but there's bound to be other stuff).

Where can one get a hold of those? I seem to be having the same problem myself.

Link to comment

Yeah, I'm going to move a heap of easier stuff I can into Pregnancy for the next releases, then look at splitting Drugs & Diseases off into a plugin as they are deeply intertwined with stuff like condoms & douches and will probably move the most stuff out easily with littlest trauma, I will split the Cum smell faction & Bukkake stuff off and then Damaged clothing swapping system off later. I think we can leave the Formlists, Armor, Animation resources, & Spells, basically just all the solid uncoded assets.
