FPS drop on a good rig?

So I've recently installed a modded skyrim using Lexy's LOTD guide, haven't included any outside mods yet and I feel like my PC should be able to handle it with my current specs (GeForce RTX 2080 and Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz) at a stable 60 ish framrate. Am I wrong in assuming this?

 

Reason I think it should be able to handle it is because I've seen it do just fine, for a random amount of time (usually pretty short, 5-30 seconds) until the fps just takes a dip and never recovers. While sometimes the game starts at the lower framrate to begin with. Kind of hard to explain so I posted a video example of what is happening in the post. Anyone got any good explanation as to what's happening here, and if I should/shouldn't expect better fps with this rig?

Do you have HDT-SMP? Do you also use SMP physics on multiple NPCs at once? (items/wigs, etc.). Then that's likely the reason for the poor performance. You can check this by typing smp reset on the console and see if the performance returns to normal for a while.

 

A known workaround is to reduce the amount of SMP objects in use (so don't enable SMP for every NPC, don't use SMP clothing or wigs on every NPC, and so on). You could also try an updated smp dll from github. The definitive solution is to tweak and make your own smp config files to account for your system spec.

HDT-SMP is disabled, not using any physics based armors or wigs so can't be that unfortunately

It also happens when no mods are active, and only an ENB so it's something the ENB is causing I think

You shouldn't be having this issue with the hardware you have. I have an i7 with 16 GB RAM and an NVidia 1080 GPU with 8 GB VRAM and I have HDT-SMP (on my character, not on any NPCs) and also an ENB. I get a steady 60 fps everywhere, with all game settings on max. Something has to be choking your video throughput somewhere.

EDIT: I just watched your video, and good grief that's a hell of a long load time with no mods and the hardware you have.....and you're only at level ONE, and load times should be BOOM-BOOM with your rig. I'm opening a save game at Level 56 with about 65 mods and an ENB and my game loads in about a quarter of the time. Something is not right somewhere.

Yeah, that video was with mods included, about 500-600 of them, so that would be the cause of the loadtime :P. But the issue is still there, and happens in the same way as it does in the video, without mods

You say the load time is the same without mods? I know I only have 65 mods, but I timed my current save as loading in 20 seconds. Is this a new PC? Did you have it built? I'm just wondering if something is maybe not set up in BIOS, or maybe the hardware is not configured correctly? Because I think there's more issues here than just video frame rate issues. Even if you had all your mods enabled, it shouldn't take that amount of loading time. ?

 Nono, the loading time is nowhere near that and pretty much instant without mods, and the loading time was only that long because I had my cpu throttled to avoid high temperatures (playing on a laptop), so that probably increased the loading time tenfold.

 

But the fps drop is always there, with cpu throttle, without cpu throttle, with mods, without mods, it always drops down when I have ENB enabled

To see if it's the enb files, setup for Enboost instead

 

EnBoost should assist performance, so if you still have that issue install a different version # of the ENBSeries

Ah, sorry...I misread what you said. Well, still.....with the hardware you have, even an ENB with everything set to max should cause that. How much VRAM does the 2080 have onboard?

I recently switched from ENB 460 to ReShade (i9, 2080 TI, UltraWide Screen 32:9):

• Indoor FPS Winking Skeever increased from 60 to 180 FPS
• Outdoor FPS Solitude from 24 FPS to 90 FPS

Mods (the most expensive ones):

• SMIM
• Skyrim Pfuscher 2018,19,20
• Vivid Weather
• Enhanced Light and FX
• High Poly Project
• SMP
• Flora Overhaul
• Realistic Water
• Wet and Cold
• HavokFix64 (required for FPS > 60)
• DynDOLOD
• Every mod with maximum textures (4k)

ReShade does not look that good than ENB but the performance impact of ENB is out of question

If that's the case then the settings in enblocal.ini are inappropriate for your rig.

See if that particular enb has a "performance" version

I decided to test a previous ENB version, tried one of the older ones (only swapped out the d3d11.dll) and there was no FPS drop. I dunno if there's a feature added in one of the later enb versions that causes my drop maybe?

The only way I've ever had ENB running was EnBoost, lol.

 

I keep trying them from time to time and never get anything that either boots or has any performance.

What version # of ENBSeries worked?

The oldest one available, 0.338, I'm trying to work my way up and see where the problem starts but not many of them are archived

That's an important detail... and an easy to test too. You can disable enb effects in game and see the difference in performance (default hotkeys for this are SHIFT+F12). As you mention trying previous versions of ENB the issue is likely an enb setting used with latest enb dll + your current enb preset. I've been using enb 460 without performance drops like you show in the video, so I'd say it's probably something on your enb preset.
