Greetings Warriors of Calradia,

We’re excited for each of you to set sail in War Sails, the upcoming expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. However, after taking a hard look at where things stand, it became clear we won’t be ready by the originally planned release date of June 17th.

The title is currently on track for an early Fall 2025 release window.

We came to this decision after a lot of thought (and a few long meetings), because we need more time to reach the level of quality you rightfully expect. The extra development period will give us more time to apply additional polish, and continue making progress on the improvements to the base game that are already in motion – We believe this short delay will ultimately lead to a better and more enjoyable experience for all players.

The team is currently working on a revised timeline, and we’re aiming to share the new release date with you in the upcoming weeks.

In the meantime, we’re excited to keep you updated — with regular developer blogs, behind-the-scenes glimpses, fresh gameplay footage, and brand-new War Sails content as we head toward launch.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Modding

Will the stealth addition be accessible to modders?

  • Yes, modders should be able to activate and control it in many cases, though what’s possible may still depend on the specific use case.

Will the new system remove XSLT support, or will it still be possible to use XSLT for XML modifications (will existing XSLT mods continue working)?

  • Existing XSLT-based mods should remain functional, though, as with any content patch - mods may require a version compatibility update not related to the XSLT system / XML editor. Should compatibility issues arise, players can use the Steam Betas system to roll back to a previous game version and keep their current modded playthroughs running.

Will the XSLT system still be necessary for certain tweaks?

  • For most modding cases, no. The new XML editor will allow you to override or extend base game XMLs by simply writing standard XML. It will merge entries based on unique attributes (like id or type) defined in the schema. This will work for items, skins, actions, etc. XSLT will still be supported and may be needed for more complex operations like removing elements or structural transformations not handled by the merge system.

@Nibbler2345 will it affect your modding?

How do I get the Images from the Image folder to appear during the text events, it only shows a man standing on a mountain with big letters in Red saying Temp?

Everything else works great though other then this!

I know it's a long shot, but is there any chance at all you might try running the overhaul mod Anno Domini 1259 Continued and making Primae Noctis compatible with it? Considering you're using Medieval Europe as the inspiration for your mod, it'd be PERFECT for Anno Domini, which is great on its own, but it's primarily a historic map/faction overhaul. It's pretty shallow gameplay wise like the vanilla game. Been lucky to get mods like Fourberie, Diplomacy, Captivity Events, and the True mods to work with it. Just needs something like Primae Noctis to be that cherry on top!

What exactly is the problem between PN and that mod? Maybe it's because PN only really cares about the 6 main cultures in the game and new cultures would be kind of ignored. But you're right in that I can't really do that because I don't even have enough time to update PN with the base game, let alone update it with all the big mods in mind.

I'm assuming it was the cultural overhaul, but honestly no idea. Tried plugging them in together and got insta-crash while trying to boot the game.

All good tho. Personally I'm gonna hunker down and enjoy this version of the game for a good long while now that I've found a good thing. Not keen on all the mod busting changes this big dlc is sure to bring with it lol

A lot of people have complained about cheating spouses over the years so here is what I wrote on Nexus

It's not really that simple to make people not cheat because it's at the main idea of the mod that the CPU can do exactly what the player can do. It's a fundamental idea for the mod so I can't just add some config to turn off just one interaction without also removing the player's ability to have extramarital encounters.

For instance if there is no cheating, how can you flirt with a woman or have an affair? In order for a law/tradition of marital fidelity to really feel like it exists, then no woman can ever possibly dream of flirting with you, and the flirting system just became meaningless.

Do you have Aperta tradition passed? The basic idea of it is "openness" so cheating must naturally increase, or else the tradition simply isn't doing what was advertised. I get that people don't like cheating spouses but for this mod it would have to be addressed through laws and traditions, and it has to be equal for the player and CPU.

It's difficult because I find it's too ridiculous to add laws/traditions for instance disabling "cheating" whilst the player is going around banging everyone, banging in tournaments, banging every lady he captures in battle. It's just a farce to pretend there are such traditions while the player is allowed to do that without consequence, and it really damages the idea of the mod if the laws/traditions are just ignored.

But I'm guessing people mostly have issue with their wife cheating. I guess the answer are more brutal, "archaic" and frankly un-PC style laws where women lose more rights and are strongly discouraged from cheating, to the point where they may be punished for adultery, but men would not be. Then the men could get away with it, but the women would have extremely low chance of ever cheating. It's unbalanced, but it's somewhat true to history. There is this tradition in the game already about women having less rights, maybe you've seen it default passed in Khuzait lands, but I haven't coded it yet.

Another possibility is to simply make marriage more special, and no married woman will ever cheat. This might be better, because marriage seems a bit pointless at times with all of the other options you have available. The downside of course is that married women will not flirt with the player either. Also, of course it only works for one woman per game. But I will probably do this in the next update. Marriage really is starting to feel pointless.

I would actually like to decrease cheating because I think it creates too much low-value, spammy, garbage clutter in the encyclopedia. But I'm thinking about the right way to do it.

I started to have crashes, even on a New Game. I use BLSE (w/o it the game crash on start which is strange). BLSE no longer catches the errors and I can't see which MOD caused the crash. Any suggestion how to proceed now please? How to check which mod caused the crash in 1.2.12?

No idea because I can't reproduce that problem. I would say send the savefile but it sounds like you have a lot of mods and probably I can't get it to load either...

I wiped everything relating Bannerlord and wait for Sails and your MOD. OFC save game got corrupted AND I wasn't able to pinpoint offending MOD because I had no exception info.

BTW. There will be a "XML editor" released. What do you think?
I hope you will make your mod more configurable in many aspects.

I had following mods:

Bannerlord.Harmony: v2.3.6.220
Bannerlord.ButterLib: v2.9.18.0
Bannerlord.UIExtenderEx: v2.12.0.0

You'll just be able to configure it in the config.

I don't even know when I can get enough time to update the mod so it doesn't matter anyway...

Maybe im blind, but i didnt found git page for Primae Noctis.
It would be great if its source could be available for creating addons or for people help you to develop mod. I diged code using DnSpy, yeah it is massive, really easy to loose track what does what. I imagine how time consuming and hard is to maintain such a great system.
Anyway PN is a great mod, cant imagine playing without it.

I am not really open sourcing at all because it only causes me a lot of problems usually. But you can check the code in dnspy if necessary. There's not really any secret bannerlord coding secrets in there, just a lot of work.

I'm not sure what will happen because I haven't played as a female before. Sorry, I don't think you'll get too much out of playing PN as a female.
