Dmouse52 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 have to say "whiskey in a jar" by thin lizzy. No idea why really but it does it for me. It's seems to be pretty simple but somehow epic. There's so many really great ones but the opening guitar always pricks my ears up
Pkatt Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 In addition to agreeing with AC/DC, I'd like to add stuff by Prince and Dweezil Zappa to that. Also, "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits. I use that song every time I sound check a new system.
Strelky Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Every single Jimi Hendrix song, every one, no idea why i didn't put this earlier

GMac2021 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 In addition to agreeing with AC/DC, I'd like to add stuff by Prince and Dweezil Zappa to that. Also, "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits. I use that song every time I sound check a new system. Do not forget Dweezil's father. I am an old-timer; there are too many great guitar riffs to mention, but Keef is at the top of my list. Rolling Stone's songs might seem simple and easy to play, but I have met next to nobody who can match Keef's gangly up-stroke rhythms. Paul Martin from The Blushing Brides could do it, Desmond Leahy (currently working with Classic Albums Live) could do it - even though he was more Mick Taylor-ish than Keith-ish. CC Cristi can pull off a fine Keef (but he does an even better Ron Wood...). And myself. I played in a Rolling Stones cover band called The Midnight Ramblers for about twenty years. They moved on to form Classic Albums Live and I had no interest in sitting down and learning albums note for note. 99% of the guitar players who play Rolling Stones music miss the point. I think Keith himself misses the point now, but he is an old man and a legend, so he can be forgiven. Maybe... Maybe he should start taking heroin again. I can't pick a riff. Too many good ones. I am SO self-indulgent today that I am actually making myself sick.
Dallas-Arbiter Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Every single Jimi Hendrix song, every one, no idea why i didn't put this earlier Damn right!
buttnine Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Beginning of Slayer's "Raining Blood" from Reign in Blood.
Guest wellbredbitch Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 when my girl is strutting down the road in all her smokin hot glory, i like to think a suitable tune would be " super massive black hole " by muse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0LgcDpTH47g

brokencircle Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Man I can't believe no one has mentioned "Crossroads" by Eric Clapton or "Life in the Fast Lane" by the Eagles. "Green River" or "Fortunate Son" by CCR.
Guest Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I find the lack of cowbell in this thread disturbing. Must be rectified. Another good riff in the chorus.
