LE to SSE - Do I have to convert mods ?

So, I have a question... Can i just run LE mods in SSE without doing the conversion ? From the reading I understand that SSE can read form43 just fine- So in theory- I should be able to just upload LE mods into SSE without doing any converting?

Currently, Im having issues with a few mods that have been converted by users on the site and all of said mods are giving me issues- Such as surivial not equipping collars, Guards dialogues activating but not talking when i punch them locking me out of the game, inabality to equip devices and such - Here is a list from MO of issues

--------------

You have one or more plugins that are not form 44. They are:

• Amputator.esm (form 43)
• Apropos2.esp (form 43)
• SexLabDefeat.esp (form 43)
• SimpleSlavery.esp (form 43)
• SL Survival.esp (form 43)
• SL_Kidnapped_Redux.esp (form 43)
• SLAL_SHanimAnimObj.esp (form 43)
• SLALAnimObj.esp (form 43)
• SLALAnimObjBillyy.esp (form 43)
• TDF Aroused Sexy Idles.esp (form 43)

Form 43 (or lower) plugins are modules that were made for Skyrim LE (Oldrim) and have not been properly ported to Skyrim Special Edition, which uses form 44 plugins. This usually results in parts of the mod not working correctly.

So im kind of just wondering, instead of installing SSE converted mods, Can i just download the LE versions and install them thru MO as normal ?

By your own account, I think you've already answered the question. Whether or not to convert mods to SSE's format is a matter of debate. I tend to agree with proper conversions. Being a programmer by trade, I understand that applications want things a certain way. SSE is no exception. Now here's where things get tricky with conversions. It depends on the mod intended to be converted. I've read numerous reports where converted mods still have problems where scripts are concerned. Sometimes, a given script simply won't run. If a mod uses LE meshes, yes convert the meshes. You can use a tool like SSE NIF Optimizer for this. A bad NIF will certainly crash the game every time.

From your list of mods, I can confirm the following actually do have SSE conversions available.

SexLabDefeat.esp (form 43) -> Converted by Goubo the original author
SimpleSlavery.esp (form 43) -> I can't remember if the original author converted this or not. But I use the converted mod and it seems to work just fine

Sometimes. In most cases the esp/esm is the least of your concerns. Plugin/master files work as it is in 9/10 cases. SE works fine with form 43 records (and only a handful of records require form 44 to work, particularly some weather and water records). On the other hand, if the LE mods you want to use contain BSA, textures or meshes (animations and models) you must convert or optimize them to work in SE. Some textures don't require conversion, but animations and model files won't work unless you port them. And if you load a LE BSA in SE your game will simply crash, the same is true for dll files.

Here is a quick rundown of file types and conversion recommendations (source).

And you can disable the MO check about form 43, I don't see the point in having a permanent notification for a non-issue. In MO Settings go to Plugins, find the Form 43 check and set it to false.

AFAIK the official conversion still has form 43, and it's working fine.

This really depends on the mod in question. While the the statement that SSE can handle form43 is mostly true from my experience (im running about 20 of them myself and the game works like a charm), you have to remember that mods consists of more stuff than just their esps.

For example:

Many of your listed mods are SL Animation packs, which are most likely problematic because:

1. They contain Animations which need to be converted since oldrim Anims are not compatible with SSE

2. They are dependent on LE-Sexlab, which to my knowledge wont run on SSE.

A general Rule I go by:

Does the mod contain a SKSE plugin?: It wont work. SKSE plugins are incompatible.

Is it a Large/script Heavy mod (esm) ?: Dont, just Dont.

Is it a small esp only mod, or does it only add/change nifs?: you can try.

when in doubt, ask the author.

Thanks for this tip. It's getting tedious to see it all the time
