kakaer Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 As title says, all my of NPC's are killable. I used mods like that in the past but despite all of them being gone the NPC's are still bound to die, even if I install mods that are meant to do the opposite like NPC's Protected. I checked all of my mods and none of them have any conflicts of this caliber, I used TESEdit and LOOT countless times, I even put commands in the ini file - nothing. It is extremely annoying when I want to play mods that progress through the knocked down mechanic(like Dark Investigations. I am unable to progress past the inn ambush stage, even with setstage), because the NPC can either continue to attack or die. There is no in-between. Do I have to do a clean reinstall of literally every file I have? I have reinstalled the game but it did not help. I have utmost confidence I have no mods that could cause this issue. I'd really like to regain the option to have my NPC's marked as essential.
Tlam99 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 As soon they spawned you need to reset them if you set the killable b4 with a mod I guess. Try recycleactor or disable/enable or resurrect if this changes the flag. Did you change the flag directly in xedit ?
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 does this happen if you start a new game?

Yes. 1 hour ago, Grey Cloud said: Which commands in which ini file? I do not remember, since it's a year old issue that I just got around to fixing, but it was supposedly a command to protect all NPC's and mark them as essential. I just checked and it's gone, so I must have removed it because it didn't work. I put it in skyrim.ini 25 minutes ago, woodsman30 said: Still don't know what your asking? You want them killable? I tried pretty much everything with the NPC's ingame, kill/resurrect recycleactor, enable and disable, marked them as essential with commands. Nothing.
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 could it be anything other than script or edit in esp? If your using MO(maybe vortex?), deactivate all mods except alt start(if you use it) and test on new game. this will identify if problem is in a mod or in base files. you can't have a mod in LO touching all npcs in esp turning them to killable?, what does it say in xedit? load all mods into xedit and expand skyrim.esm and click npc's then click on an npc you know in game is killable when they shouldn't be and see what it says here. If you see another mod touching particular npc then we need to look and see if change is being made there. This char is showing you essential and protected, what you're describing is npcs in your game have neither. does anybody know how/if the essential and protected flags, themselves, can be altered? All I can find is this, something about an ini file.
Heroine HoneyCrotch Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 You can check your skse/plugin folder and make sure you dont have this .dll file [spoiler/]

Ok so before you go and install all kinds of mods and change files ect... When you start a new game aka playthrough the game creates a base file that is referenced there after. Installing mods to think it will change things in mid game it will not change the base save file. Example: Lydia walks like a man when you meet her now you install a mod to change that but Lydia still walks like a man why? Because the save file has her rendered as a man walk and you already met her she will not walk like a woman until you start a fresh game and never meet her... This goes the same for TES5edit base game changes do not take effect until you start a new game or if you never met a NPC or been in the cell you change...... those are just facts. I have a NPC fetish all NPC are safe nobody dies in my game unless I make it so... How? Time and a mod called manipulator you can change a shit load of things about a NPC including being essential ....this way I do not have clunky mods that work half the time.... And using that tool will take effect immediately for that playthrough but will revert back to original status upon a new playthrough... Time consuming yes trouble free yes .... Remember Skyrim= keep it simple keeps a stable game.

One can xedit every npc and set a flag isessential or do this via xedit script. (Don't take me by the word, if everything is written correctly, need to open xedit to check, but it's selfexplaining then) I don't believe it is in basegame, as one cannot edit it and it would be a unrealistic coincident have all flags changed by a bug. Must be a mod, an ini or a dll.

All I can find is this, something about an ini file. xedit showed no working mods that could cause issues, the NPC's are flagges as essential yet still die. I do not have the dll file in my folders either. The issue continues even with all my mods but Alternate Start turned off. Should I just learn how to deinstall every skyrim file I have without trace and start anew? It looks like the problem has very deep roots that just can't be found.
Tlam99 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 There is also the possibility you granted your PC the feature to be able to kill everyone. This might override the essential flag. Is this a special race or ordinary vanilla race ?
