Brand new to Sims 4–Suggestions?

So I just downloaded Sims 4. I've played various versions of The Sims in the past, but not this one yet.

 

Any suggestions on what to do first? Should I play vanilla for a while, to get a feel for it? Download the Highly Recommended Mods from 

? or just download Wicked Whims and dive right in?

And—given that there seems to be a zillion animations for WW—which should I download (first)? Is there a recommended list? Are these redundant, or all complimentary?

I haven't played with any mods until like a month ago. And I own the game for nearly four years now.

I'd suggest: Take a look first, get a feeling for the game. Especially the downloadable rooms make building easier. And also: Be thankful for getting it now! Just saw a video a couple of days ago with the base game from the release. Someone loaded it from the DVD and... Wow! So much missing. Be glad for all the free little upgrades they gave us.

Animations are a completely different topic. I think it will depend on your computer. You could get all 7,000+ animations. I don't have that many. I just picked like about ten different creators and have their animations in my game. Are you planning on just running the "Wicked Whims" mod or do you plan on adding more mods already? I do also have "Basemental Drugs" and like that one as well. I tried "Wicked Perversions" but a) my computer couldn't handle it well and b) it wasn't really what I was looking for. I think a lot is up to personal taste and game play.

One animator I would HIGHLY recommend is MOTHERLODESIMS' Animation Pack. His attention to detail is mind-blowing. I have lots of animator's packages, but he's just a bit above the rest. JMO.

Yup one of the best and I also quite like the Azmodan22 animations.

I suggest playing the vanilla for a little, like even just for like a while. Then you'll better understand what the mods do and what mods from my list you'll want.
