MMORPG with sexy costumes and armours?

It seems to me as of late, a lot of the newer mmorpgs are shying away from including costumes and armours that are a bit more sexualised to avoid upsetting various groups of people which i can understand but at the same time it disappoints me.

What I am wondering is what MMORPGs today (or even upcoming ones) that are still relatively popular and have sexy costumes and/or armours that I can equip on my character on top of a robust character creator?

The only ones I can think of are the following:

  1. Black Desert Online - Played it already and had fun with the recent Guardian class and while it has a lot going for it, the gear enhancement RNG and the constant feeling i had to have the game running 24/7 ruined it for me. There's a handful of sexy costumes available that I liked and the ability to dye them to make them yours was icing on the cake.
  2. Blade and Soul - Haven't actually played it though the main thing putting me off is how some classes are very ping dependent. I live in Australia and so i get a minimum of 200ms ping on a good day to any US server. From what I've seen though, this has a lot of sexy costumes.
  3. TERA - Had some fun with this one but got bored of it and the lack of character customisation beyond just the face was very disappointing. However the variety of armour that got skimpier the higher level you got was great and there were a number of sexy costumes to get
  4. Vindictus - I'm currently enjoying the game despite it's age and population, almost all the costumes i've seen in the game so far are sexy and they can be dyed as well which is even better.
  5. Phantasy Star Online 2 - I've been trying this one a bit but so far it's not clicking with me, not sure why when it ticks both the character creation and the sexy costumes it offers. I think it has something to do with how confusing and spread out everything is.
  6. ArchAge - I think there were a few sexy costumes in this game but the way the game was managed has left a sour taste in my mouth and also i disliked the open world PvP, made trying to go from point A to point B a real frustrating task.

I'm curious to know if there's any others I've missed, perhaps FF14? Not sure as the costumes i've mostly seen have been rather tame.

Would love to hear anyone else's suggestions! :)

I would suggest FFXIV, however it is subscription based and the sexy costumes require you to mod the game (which only affects things client side.) there are a few vanilla ones but they're pretty few and far between with the devs trying to keep things moastly gender neutral.

Conan Exiles is more of a survival game than a standard MMORPG but it still counts.

Of course, there is its predecessor Conan:The Hyborian Age that falls into the more typical MMORPG framework.

Based on the responses so far, it seems that it's basically just come down to modding an MMO to have skimpier armour or costumes rather than them being a part of the game by default. I might give FF14 a try sometime since i hear it's good fun and might tickle my fantasy.

Not to turn this into a PSO2 thread but I kinda know what you mean about that game, although for me it wasn't the UI it was more that the combat felt really clunky.

Try SKYFORGE on steam.

I completely forgot about Skyforge, i had tried it in the past and i think i had fun with it initially but then realised it was very p2w as i progressed and i quickly lost interest afterwards. It's a shame because i liked the premise of the "story" in that game.

I wanted to try Conan Exiles for their ERP servers but sharing my steam id was a red flag for me for privacy reasons. So I tried all of the games you mentioned and more but would always end up back on XIV despite it being old and the creator being basic.  You can browse a lot of their mods here. If you're into ERP and futa it's pretty much all you can eat. If you or anyone wants to try XIV it has a generous free trial to play. A warning for anyone buying the game, to avoid weird account issues buy the game specific for your region. If you decide to buy it on steam you are locked in to always buy expansions and such from steam as well. I don't know why its like that.

I'm happy to make more lewd friends so if anyone wants to contact me in game for help or just to play together feel free to message me here for my discord info. I play on NA Datacenter Aether so a character on any server there would work. Must mention if ERP friendly or not. >:]

I assume you yourself have or currently are using mods with your installation? The general consensus with modding in that game seems to be "keep it to yourself" when in game and you more or less can mod to your hearts content as long as it's just cosmetic? Would you say this is correct?

Also I would love to make some lewd friends on there though being in Australia i think the better server for me would be the Japanese ones due to them being closer, it's hard to tell right now since i don't own the game yet so i can't see/test for myself.

I do have mods and that's exactly right. It's similar to how they treat parsers to monitor DPS. Don't ask don't tell. Latency is certainty a thing when playing a job like Ninja. For the most part it's not so bad that you can't play where you want but it can be a factor for a lot of people. I think Aussies get the short end still regardless of where they go. Usually if latency is an issue people have to adjust an opener because they can't weave two or three skills between the global cool down and need to learn boss encounters better to dodge aoe. I'm sure there's ERP on every server but can only speak for Aether servers. If you're curious I do recommend the free trial to poke around. It lets you play the base game and first expansion with limitations like no Free Company (guild) and a lack of social functions. I forget the duration period though.

If you're in Australia the Tonberry world on the Japanese servers is the unofficial english speaking world, going onto that one should be a better in terms of latency.

As for mods it's very much a case of it's fine as long as you don't get caught, I know Yoshi P has said in the past he doesn't like them or the fact that people mod the game but at the end of the day you can't exactly get banned or have your license revoked for a bit of NSFW modding, that would be like getting banned for ERP.

Pretty sure the free trial is either 30 days or until you finish the first expansion and hit lvl 60

I was told that the free trial is basically as long as you want up until you pay for a sub. So because of that my interpretation is that the free trial makes the game free to play but with a few  restrictions and limitations that lasts till you pay for a premium sub.

In terms of combat how does it compare to BDO or Vindictus? I have images of people with 3 skill bars worth of skills but idk if it's really action combat with that many skills, at most i'm guessing it's a hybrid of tab target and action combat?

Posted

The combat is tab target but it follows a principal called ABC (Always Be Casting) so you're very unlikely to using your auto attacks. I've put some basic info in the spoiler if you're interested.

Spoiler

That's basically what a lvl 80 Dragoon skill bar looks like, although mine isn't optimised correctly, and with it (and most DPS jobs) it doesn't feel like you're doing nothing for long stretches of time. The skils in the red box are your basic rotation which should be getting cast near constantly (so skill 1 followed by 2 followed by 3 etc.) whereas the ones in the orange box are just AoE skills, the blue boxes are party buffs (sort of, the first skill on the secon hotbar only affects one other party member) and the green boxes are self buffs. The purple box is the skill that activates the job specific action, which in Dragoon's case allows the use of the skills in the pink boxes the rest are oGCDs (off general cooldown, the skills in the red box and orange box are GCD or general cooldown) and can be used in between your main rotation, except the last skill on hotbar 1 that's a suicide skill.

Generally with Dragoon you'll be moving around a lot as you try to hit positionals, where you need to attack from either the sides or the rear, so if you're playing it (or monk, ninja or samurai) you'll be moving a lot not just to dodge AoEs but also to hit your positionals.

Thanks a lot of the detailed explanation on the combat system. What about projectile skills and spells, especially from enemy monsters?

In past MMOs i've played any arrows or fireballs shot at me would break the laws of physics and hit me  even if I side step and run around to avoid getting hit making moving away almost pointless. Is this the same story in FF14?

Projectiles will hit you same with ranged spells if you're the target of that attack but some enemy skills will have AoE markers or only fire in a certain direction so they can be avoided if you're paying attention. I feel that most MMOs have enemy ranged attacks breaking the laws of physics just to add an extra bit of challenge to the encounter.

I have been playing FFXIV off and on since 2014/2015 (I believe early 2015, but I got my PS4 in 2014, so yeah), and @Kpnut gave a pretty good explanation of how combat works. I primarily run as Samurai, Red Mage, Gunbreaker or Ninja (which I am trying to level up), and getting used to the rotations can be tricky. But, with over 5k hours of content to run if you have all the expansions, the $14.99 USD/month subscription is well worth it, and the story is great. There are 30 classes/jobs in the game (classes become jobs, so I count them as separate classes as a whole), but you don't have to stick with just one; the game is set up to let you work on *all* of them on one character, while also allowing you to specialize in one class you want to use as your main.

It's not all combat classes either; there are three gathering classes (miner, botanist, and fisher, also called in-game as Disciple of the Land classes), and eight crafting classes (alchemist, armorer, blacksmith, carpenter, culinarian [cooking], goldsmith, leatherworker, and weaver, also called in-game as Disciple of the Hand classes). Of the many ways to make money in-game outside of roleplaying, leveling all of the gathering and crafting classes is by far the most widely used. If you have all of your crafters leveled up to the level cap (50 for base game, 60 for Heavensward Expansion, 70 for Stormblood, and 80 for Shadowbringers), you become what is known to the player base as an "omnicrafter", and you can use the in-game Party Finder (party recruitment mechanic used to find players to run content with without having to queue up for instanced dungeons; also used in roleplaying advertisements in-game) to advertise your services and make some Gil (in-game currency) while helping people out.

If you are familiar with WoW, FFXIV also has what is known as the Glamour system, which (as I am not a WoW player, I cannot verify) is much like WoW's transmogrification system. You can have your class gear at its best and Glamour an item over it, giving a cosmetic change to what your gear shows.

There is a player-driven economy, though, generally speaking, each of the servers has its own prices. But, you can look on the Market Board to get an idea of how much people are selling crafted/looted/gathered items for and use that to your advantage if you craft. That's also where you can find some of the more skimpy outfits without getting mods installed. I think one of the most common ones is a halter microbikini outfit (comes as separate upper and lower pieces), and as far as I know, it's the most revealing item set in the game without mods.

As far as mods go, I am given to understand (because I play on PS4 and therefore have no way to mod my game) that nude mods replace specific pieces of attire in game, and I can confirm that it is client-side. It will only show up for you, and no one else can see it unless they have the same mods installed on their end. I am not entirely sure where to get mods, though; I am fairly sure that there are some on the Nexus, but I may be wrong.

Also, the ERP community is very lively, and there are many, MANY, people making Gil that way.

Also, there is no P2W feature for FFXIV, as the PVP in the game is limited to the Duty Finder (the system used to queue for instanced content like dungeons and raids), and it specifically designed to have all participants locked at the same level (unsure about gear level, as I don't usually run PVP) and using special, custom commands that utilize all of the combat skills in rotation for their classes (i.e. if you are a Ninja, you have one button that runs your basic 3-attack rotation, one button for your AOE rotation, etc). In addition, the only paid level shortcuts for FFXIV are story skipping, class-specific purchases from the Mogstation.

All other purchases on the Mogstation are things like mounts, outfits, emotes, items to change your character's details (known as Fantasias; in-game, you cannot edit the facial structure, race, eye color, voice, or biological/astrological details, though you can do a short 20 minute [max] quest at level 15 to unlock the ability to change hair, makeup, scars, tattoos, and eyebrows. Fantasias are used if you want to change something that the Aesthetician [basically, the stylist/barber] can't do), marriage packages (because marriage between players is a legitimate thing in-game) and subscription packages.

@SaiKazukimuriThanks for the detailed response!

I've been doing further research into the game and it seems that the housing system in FF14 is pretty cut-throat, with people fighting over any and all property with some people owning entire wards just to themselves just because they can. It's a system I've seen very similar to ArchAge and I didn't like it, I'm much happier with the housing systems in BDO or ESO where there's no fighting over plots of land or housing slots. What's your view on this?

I also read about there being marketplace bots being pretty rife in the game regularly undercutting people so they get sales first all the time and use the gil they earn to fund some illegal RMT operation. How prevalent is this from your personal experience?

@Sense19 With modding is there a general procedure to it? I've read that when modding with TexTools you should generally should disable all mods then use the option "Start Over" after redownloading a clean index before any new update/maintenance happens to avoid any potential issues or even getting caught. Is this what you have to do?

Overall would it be much of a stretch to say that modding is safe as long as you keep it to yourself? There's no way that the moderator team or Square Enix has any way of finding out otherwise?

Posted

@MizukiNagano, not a problem at all! If I can help explain something, I will do my best. As for the housing, I can't speak for other datacenters/server clusters, but over on Primal DC, it's not so much fighting as it is a free-for-all on an invisible timer, with up to 20 people spamming the plot's plaque to buy it for up to 2 days straight waiting to get first dibs. It's definitely an issue Square Enix is aware of, and next patch is adding some more housing. I also don't think it's even possible to own more than one house per account (you can have multiple characters per account), at least in my experience there hasn't been.

As far as Market Board bots, I don't know if people are actually botting, but I do know that there are people out there that try to sell stuff at the Gil limit, and I do know that there are bot accounts that just sit at Market Boards in the 3 starting cities that spam ads for illegal RMT operations (I usually blacklist and report these bots, if I don't simply ignore them).

As a side note, I got my mom into the game as well, and she just recently got her main character up to Omnicrafter status. She's helping my Free Company (FC for short; FFXIV term for player-run guilds/clans) as we get ready to open up a roleplay venue of our own to help raise Gil to buy an FC estate either next patch or when they finally add the next city's housing (been waiting for 5 years for the Heavensward city to get housing).

The housing can get insane and house prices are usually pretty high but they add more wards to every housing area every so often and there's more than enough apartments to go around (and you can't get kicked out of your apartment if you don't use it for an extended period time unlike houses.)

As for the bots they are nuisance but they tend to get banned in waves , RMT is a bannable offense (iirc) and you do get marketboard bots  but I think they're more of an issue on the other servers/worlds since I haven't seen any in the Chaos worlds.

As for modding, you probably should deactivate them all for maintenances but Yoshi P seems to be under the impression that it's illegal for them to install anything that can scan local files so while he doesn't like modding it's hardly a bannable offense (as long as no one sees a picture of a modded game and sends it to him) I've forgotten to deactivate my mods before maintenance before loads of times and nothing really bad seems to have happened but I have heard that mods that alter sounds (they're rare but do exist) can cause problems.
