Guys,

I had this problem for quite some time now, but it's starting to piss me off. I can't write in MCM, and some mods require text input in order to save data, or name something. Can you help me out?

Well, shit... The SkyUI installer informs that there's a problem:

Spoiler

This report informs you about potential problems with your SkyUI installation.

Fix these problems , then press 'Refresh' to confirm that they're gone.
After all problems have been resolved, you can continue with the installation.

-----------
Problem #1:
-----------
There are files in your 'Data/' folder, which override newer versions from the SkyUI.bsa archive.

These files are:
    Data/Scripts/SKI_PlayerLoadGameAlias.pex

Potential causes:
* An old SkyUI version was not uninstalled before installing the new one.

Solution:
1. If you have an old SkyUI version installed in NMM, uninstall it, then try again.
2. If there are still problematic files reported, delete them manually.

I don't have the old version of SkyUI and I cannot (for whatever goddamn reason) see files in the Data folder, so I cannot manually delete the file.

I reinstalled anyway, but the typing function still doesn't work.

Skyrim always gives priority to a loose file over the same file in a bsa.

The cause of your problem is as already been said.

"+128 mcm menu mod"

If you don't have this mod, whatever it is, check that you if have another mod which is using an older version of SkyUI.

Don't have it. And quite frankly I have no idea how to check which mod is using an older SkyUI. Any advice?

Mods with MCM usually use the swf and scripts from SkyUi and do not overwrite them.
If he has installed mods whose MCM has input, but not on him, then his SkyUi is simply out of date or another mod like e.g. SkyUiAway etc. has overwritten it

@kabibar

It doesn't matter if you have older mods written for an older MCM.
I installed mods that were developed for SkyUi 4.0 and even 3.2. The mods work perfectly.

Did you delete the pex file?

Nope. Can't. I can't see the files in the Data folder, don't know why.

It's not in the Data folder it is where the above path says it is - the Scripts folder which is in the Data folder. And for what it is worth, I don't have a SKI_PlayerLoadGameAlias.pex in the Scripts folder.

Yeah, I know. But I can't see the full content of subfolders either. Obviously I checked if the listed file was there, it's not, so it's either unaccessible, or the installer is generating false error.

I think you already have an older SkyUI installed as loose files. Then deleting a single script would not be enough.

You would then have to delete ALL loose files of the old version - or - you unpack SkyUI.bsa and install the new version as loose files. This will overwrite all old files.

Well, fuck. This sounds like a dirty solution that'll cause issues in the future.

How do you think Mod authors can create MCM? With scripts within the BSA?
SkyUI is finished, there is no further development for LE than 5.1.

Everyone who writes mods with MCM has SkyUI loose file installation. Myself and countless other Moder.
But as you mean.

Nevertheless, you should unpack the BSA, so you know which files you need to delete. ;)

I'll try, but as I can't access the goddamn Data content somehow I doubt it'll work. Thanks for your help, I'll get back to you when I know more.

Why can you not see the folder contents?

The error message has told him which, single, file he has to delete.

Beats me, man. I had this problem since the beginnig, I can only see the files that were manually placed in the Data folder and all of its subfolders. I've been searching for the solution for nearly six months and at this point I just gave up. It's not an issue of access level, or any setting that I could think of.

Are you using MO?

MO doesn't use the data folder, it puts things in its own 'virtual' data folder.

Whichever mod manager you use, you should not be doing things manually.

Now I'm using MO, previously I used NMM. I'm aware that MO has its own folder, but seemingly the listed file is not there either, so I assume it's some kind of an artifact.

Search your computer for the pex file.

Whatever is in your data folder will be ignored by MO so it not doing anything in your game.

Is SkyUI installed through MO?

This time - yup. Can't say for sure about its previous version though.

I can't help you MO as I don't use it but you need to sort out the files that are in your data folder and make sure you have MO set up properly and all your mods installed through it.
