The error message has told him which, single, file he has to delete.

I know the file was named.

One file and nothing more - the alarm bells should be ringing, shouldn't they? ;)

Here is a list directly from the install script that are checked.

Spoiler

        "Scripts/SKI_ActiveEffectsWidget.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_ConfigBase.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_ConfigManager.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_Main.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_MeterWidget.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_PlayerLoadGameAlias.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_QuestBase.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_StatusWidget.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_WidgetBase.pex",
        "Scripts/SKI_WidgetManager.pex",
        "Interface/skyui_cfg.txt",
        "Interface/skyui_translate.txt",
        "Interface/bartermenu.swf",
        "Interface/containermenu.swf",
        "Interface/inventorymenu.swf",
        "Interface/magicmenu.swf",
        "Interface/skyui/inventorylists.swf",
        "Interface/skyui/tabbedinventorylists.swf",
        "Interface/skyui/skyui_icons_cat.swf",
        "Interface/skyui/skyui_icons_inv.swf",
        "Interface/skyui/skyui_icons_magic.swf"

If he does not unpack the BSA and install the mod as loose files, then the following will happen:

The mod that installed SKI_PlayerLoadGameAlias.pex - and that is not SkyUI (see list) - will no longer work.

For example Sofia. This mod also has an (old) version of SKI_PlayerLoadGameAlias.pex.
But of course no access to SkyUI.bsa.

So: If he wants to install SkyUI 5.1 AND keep the mod(s) that installed SKI_PlayerLoadGameAlias.pex as a loose file, he MUST unpack the BSA from SkyUI 5.1 and install it loose.

@kapibar MO uses profile folders instead of the data from Skyrim

OK, so after going through the files manually I located the pex of interest and reinstalled SkyUI with no errors. The typing function is still as dead as it was before, unfortunately, so it's not SkyUI itself that's causing this.

In a save or a new game? Try it in a new game.
