lambient1988 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 So I just reinstalled Skyrim LE (Oldrim). It's a fresh install with 0 mods. Only thing I have installed is SKSE. Just to test things, I loaded up a save game and decided to look at Whiterun. And my FPS dropped from 60 to 40. Why? I am running: AMD FX-8350 16 GB RAM 2 x NVIDIA 1060 1080p Skyrim, Mod Organizer and all the mods are on the SSD. I am not even using 20% of my processor or graphics card, yet the FPS drops down by 20. I believe it happens every time when outside and looking at Whiterun. Does anyone have a clue?
myuhinny Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Your old saves would still have crap from your old game still in it. I bet if you restarted and tried it you would have no problem looking at whiterun.
Grey Cloud Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 What FPS do you get if you turn 90 degrees left or right or 180 degrees?

That's sounds about right to me, ok my game is modded but That's what I get looking at skyrim from the farm Don't know how your CPU and GPU usage are so low but I guess that's the vanilla game so no additional scripts running etc. My hardware is a bit newer and faster but this is on a modified game with unBleak ENB and some texture overhauls. Not sure what I am dropping from without having it capped (a lot of the time it's well past 100fps when uncapped) But the approach to Riverwood will drop it down in high 30's and that view from the farm dropped it to 45.

Thank you for your input guys. I actually started a new game and in the cart being taken to my execution, I am hitting 30 FPS at times. I have no idea what is causing this. Was Skyrim so poorly optimized that it cannot even handle new graphic cards? Or is NVIDIA lowering FPS in newer drivers so that people will upgrade? I am barely hitting 40% of the GPU clock and GPU memory.
lambient1988 Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 Okay guys, after a lot of trail and error, I found the culprit. It's the object fade distance. With all the other settings maxed out, I get 60 FPS at all times, but the object fade distance, if I set it to lowest, I get 60 FPS, but the highest one gives me 30 - 40 FPS when looking at certain places. Is there a way to fix this? Cause my CPU and GPU are barely getting used.
lambient1988 Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 Okay this is a lot more complicated. I am making a new thread with a better title and everything.
