Krynn Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Hello @ll! After a new installation, the ModOrganizer always shows me that my Update.esm Dawnguard, Dragonborn and Hearthfires are dirty.Does anyone know what could be there?my game keeps crashing too!
donttouchmethere Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Dirty bastards! maybe this helps Spoiler Cleaning of Skyrim's Master files with TESVEdit Since 2019 TESVEdit (part of xEdit) comes with a new Mod cleaning feature: "QuickAutoClean" First steps: Grab it from here: TESVEdit How to Install and use TESVEdit: Watch GamerPoets cleaning Why to do it: Manual Cleaning Guide by alt3rn1ty (click on the nexus forum spoiler) or watch Watch GamerPoets Mod esm to be cleaned: update.esm dawnguard.esm hearthfires.esm dragonborn.esm Cleaning Procedure: Basicly you will have to repeat those steps with each Master file in TESVEdit: start TESVEdit via TES5EditQuickAutoClean.exe choose only one mod esm and press "ok" TESVEdit's QuickAutoClean will clean the mod automatically, wait till it finishes it's job close TESVEdit and changes will be saved Repeat this procedure for all mods that need cleaning
Just Don't Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 If you're talking about Steam updates because you're on Skyrim SE, in addition to cleaning the esm you'll have to copy the cleaned files and make your own mod in MO. The easiest way to do it is create a new folder called something like "Cleaned ESM files". copy the 4 cleaned esm into that folder. place that folder in "Mod Organizer 2\mods" (or wherever your MO mods are stored, the location I gave is the default one if you use a portable instance). open MO and in the left panel (modlist) you'll see your newly created "Cleaned ESM files" mod, enable it and place it near the top of your modlist, right after the DLCs. That way next time your game receives an update your ESM files in the game folder will be replaced by the official (and dirty) ones, but MO will keep using the ones you cleaned.
Krynn Posted March 28, 2020 Author Posted March 28, 2020 first of all thank you for the quick answers! i will try both suggestions tomorrow.

The newer version of TES5Edit do that automatically for you.
Just Don't Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 3 minutes ago, Krynn said: no, I don't have Skyrim Special Edition, I just lost everything. Then there is no reason for losing the cleaned esm in og Skyrim. Skyrim hasn't received a real update in years and most likely never will. Make sure you're cleaning it properly, following the information donttouchmethere posted should be enough. Now, about your original message 1 hour ago, Krynn said: After a new installation new install of what? the game? then yes, of course you have the original dirty files. You need to clean them at least once. And if you reinstall the game you'll get the original dirty files again. As you're using MO you shouldn't need to reinstall the game, and as you don't use Skyrim SE, there is no need to save them somewhere else. Just clean it once and done. 1 hour ago, Krynn said: my game keeps crashing too! Unlikely that it has something to do with dirty esm files. It's just a recommended step, the chances of your game crashing because of an official dirty esm are minimal.
