Rasthal Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 i was unhappy with the loading speed of R6:siege so i decided to defrag my hdd....... next time i start MO2 it basically says Dll Folder say broken. so now im reinstalling all my mods yay.
Just Don't Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Nonsense. Sounds like OS issues or just user error on the usage of folder structures and install paths. And I'm talking about being bad at window explorer (this isn't something a defrag tool can do, this must be user error), which is an accomplishment on its own. What is the "dll folder" broken message anyway? I like when I know what others are talking about. That's not a message I can say I've seen or know about. What's even a dll folder? Each mod with a dll is installed into its own separate folder inside MO2\mods, there isn't a general dll folder for mods. If you're talking about the dll files for MO, you can find them next to the executable and other files. Those shouldn't be moved out of place under any circumstance, performing a defrag surely doesn't move files out of their designed folders.
Rasthal Posted March 3, 2020 Author Posted March 3, 2020 it was an error i got with MO2 (don't remember the exact wording, sorry have crap memory). the ONLY thing i had done between having no error and having an error was play Siege, get annoyed at my loading time and defraging the Hdd that my games are on. so unless Siege bricks the dlls from Skyrim by starting (not even updating) then idk what happened other then that the defrag caused the problem. anyway after reinstalling the mods (not the game) the error went away so.☺️ Anyway the defrag does not move files around in windows file index, BUT it DOES read and rewrites file on a physical HDDs sectors so it becomes just a tiny bit faster/easier to read for the read head in the HDD, so if it borks it up the that file becomes corrupt and then voila you have an error. and yes i use a third party defrager (defraggler (witch i havent updated for like 2 years, witch might explain alot.) since windows built-in one cant defrag larger files.
Just Don't Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 3 hours ago, Rasthal said: so if it borks it up the that file becomes corrupt and then voila you have an error Ah so you're saying if a software break files, the files won't work. Jokes aside you were lucky the broken files were just some mods dll and not some super important dll or other system file. I've never had any issue with Windows defrag, that's why I found your post weird, but who knows what a 3rd party software can do. Still think it's weird you had issues with mod dll in particular.
nemocdt Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 I doubt very much that, sound unlikely bro. give us more info please such as the full error MO is giving you. Nevermind. glad you up and running again...
Grey Cloud Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 More likely to be a hard drive problem due to bad sectors or the the 3rd party defragger.
Rasthal Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 The hardrive has no bad sectors, just scanned it. but the defragger was not updated for a long while so that's what i believe screwed me, just wanted to tell ppl to update there defrager if they are using 3rd party software so they dont have to reinstall all there mods. my mod list is very small at about 100 mods, i have seen ppl with twice that soooo if mine took about 20 mins to reinstall then just think what a large ML would take. Btw i have the OS drive separate from my games and other files.
